Chapter 43 Ritual
"interface?"
Sitting at the table, Dorothy couldn't help feeling confused when she heard the system's reply in her mind. She rubbed her temples and began to think.
"Interface? The essence of this system is interface? What does this mean? What kind of interface is this? Hey, system, can you explain more clearly what this so-called interface is?"
Dorothy continued to question the system in her brain, but this time the system did not give any answer. Dorothy found that she was asking in vain.
After asking the system several more questions with no results, Dorothy temporarily gave up the idea of investigating the nature of the system and focused on the most important matter at hand, which was the promotion ceremony.
After learning that the system had the function of relaying prayers and guiding gifts, an idea naturally came to her mind.
"Maybe... I can give it a try. Tomorrow is the weekend..."
Muttering to herself, Dorothy finished her mysterious research tonight. After putting the contraband on the table into her schoolbag, Dorothy changed into her pajamas, turned off the lights and went to bed.
After a deep night's sleep, Dorothy woke up in the bright sunshine of the early morning. She got out of bed, rubbed her eyes and opened the door. Dorothy did not see Greg in the living room. Because she did not have classes, she got up two hours later than usual this morning, so Greg had already gone to work.
In this era of the world, the concept of weekends hardly exists. Many jobs are year-round, and it is impossible to take a day off except for religious holidays. Greg's work hours are not fixed due to the special nature of his job. Sometimes he goes out very late and comes back very early, sometimes he doesn't come back for several nights in a row, and sometimes he can be idle all day. Dorothy knows that his working hours mainly depend on when there are tasks.
Many schools have a religious influence and therefore have one day off every weekend based on the myth that the Shining Savior took six days to save the world and took one day to rest.
As for St. Amanda's School where Dorothy was studying, Mr. Aldridge was an educational reformer. He was not only ahead of the times in recruiting female students, but also added some science, engineering and art courses to this traditional grammar school. He even added an extra day to the weekend on the grounds of increasing students' extracurricular practice time and opportunities to go home to visit relatives, so that Dorothy could perfectly enjoy the weekend.
Therefore, Dorothy decided not to disappoint the principal and take advantage of this Saturday to do some "extracurricular practical activities".
After washing up, Dorothy finished her breakfast which had been on the coffee table for some time, then changed into casual clothes and went out with her bag. She caught a carriage downstairs and headed straight for the market.
After getting off the carriage, Dorothy went directly into the market and bought materials according to the notes she had prepared in advance. With some left, Dorothy took a car to a luxury store on the commercial street to buy more. After paying 15 pounds, Dorothy took the things she had bought and drove all the way to the western suburbs of Egwind, and came to a small forest.
This forest used to be very large a long time ago, and was used as a hunting ground because there were some prey in it. However, the prey had long been hunted out. Due to the expansion of the city, the trees here were cut down in large quantities, and now there are only a few left, so there is no value in continuing to cut them down. However, there are still some former lumberjack cabins in the forest, and a year ago, the murderer of a homicide case hid the body in it. The police caught the murderer based on evidence and found the body through identification.
Dorothy happened to pass by here on her way to and from school. This information was obtained from Dorothy and the coachman's daily bragging on the road. Now Dorothy just needed a hidden place.
Getting off the car at a riverside fishing spot one kilometer outside the grove, Dorothy walked into the grove in her cloak, then went deeper and deeper, and soon found the lumberjack's cabin in the forest.
That's right, Dorothy was planning to get promoted here. Due to Gregor's identity, she didn't dare to hold a secret ceremony at home. If she held it in other hidden corners of the city, she was afraid of running into the Red Communion. There was a body hidden here from a murder case not long ago. If there were people from the Communion here, there would be no body... and even no murderer.
Stepping on the settled grass leaves, Dorothy entered the cabin, which was dimly lit and empty like a wilderness. There was a rotten smell in the air. Dorothy had no idea that this was a place where corpses had been hidden before, so she immediately began to arrange the ceremony.
"Powdered black phosphorus lime... red fir sawdust... sedge..."
Opening her schoolbag, Dorothy mixed the mineral powder, sawdust and straw foam she had bought evenly. According to the pattern on the torn page, she used auxiliary tools to draw a simple circular magic circle with the mixed powder. Then she lit six candles around it and placed three small copper incense burners around the candles. They were filled with precious incense bought from a luxury store and shipped from the continent.
As the lingering aroma began to form and diffuse into the house, Dorothy began the final step of the ritual preparation, drawing a spiritual symbol that connected her to herself in the center of the magic circle.
After pricking her finger with a needle, Dorothy added a drop of blood to the remaining powder, stirred it, and began to draw spiritual symbols with it.
In the secret teachings given by Aldrich, all spiritual symbols were recorded.
The symbol of "lamp" is a vertically erected scepter with eight evenly spaced lines radiating from the top to indicate light. It is like there is a bright lamp emitting light on the top of the scepter, or like the top of the scepter is the sun.
The symbol of "shadow" is a curved knife with the blade bent into a perfect angle, just like a full moon in the night sky.
There is no need to explain much about the symbol of "cup". It is an ancient wine cup with a large top, a narrow belly and a small bottom, and an inverted triangle symbol painted on the wine cup.
The symbol for "stone" is not a gem, ore, hammer, chisel or the like, but a gold coin with an equilateral triangle mark on it.
The symbol for "silence" is very simple, it is a closed eye.
The symbol of "Qi" is also simple, it is an open eye.
Dorothy was going to perform a ceremony of "initiation", so she carefully drew an open eye in the center of the magic circle, the symbol of "initiation".
After everything was ready, Dorothy put aside what she had in her hands, then knelt on the magic circle, in front of the "Enlightenment" symbol.
Then Dorothy began to recite the spell silently.
"I vow to follow this man... worship this truth... explore the sea of knowledge... seek the truth... I will be the compass... the navigation track..."
Dorothy lowered her head and murmured softly. Her whispers echoed in the small space, as if they were guiding something, causing the drifting white smoke to swirl around the magic circle and the candles to flicker.
Slowly, Dorothy finished her spell and began to pray.
"I wish to embark on the path of enlightenment, but the road ahead is turbid. I pray here and ask all the great divinities in the world to clear the clouds and mist for me and point out the way forward..."
Dorothy finished her prayer, but an echo of her own words came back to her mind.
"I beg all the great deities in the world to clear away the fog and show me the way..."
After the echo ended, something like an options dialog box suddenly popped up in front of Dorothy.
"I have received an application for preliminary guidance. Are you interested in receiving guidance?"
Looking at the dialog box in front of her, Dorothy's mouth twitched slightly, and then she clicked to confirm with her mind.
