Chapter 60 Tail
Eaglewind in the afternoon, downtown, White Pearl Street.
In an alley, four street thugs were sitting casually on a staircase. Having nothing to do all day, they were bragging to each other as usual. At this moment, the one who was talking most excitedly among them was a middle-aged man in overalls.
"Really? It must be true. My cousin saw it with his own eyes and heard it with his own ears. He was outside Corey's store at the time. The things that man gave to Corey were definitely the stolen goods in the Burton Weir case. Corey didn't pay attention at first, but later he was shocked and shouted out Burton Weir's name!"
Sitting in the middle of the group, the bald man kept talking and boasting. Listening to his words, the people around him talked and talked in amazement.
"Is that so... So the murderer who killed Burton Weir might be on White Pearl Street now?"
"Another ruthless guy has come here... It is said that he killed seven or eight people by himself. If he really came to our side, I'm afraid those leaders would not dare to provoke him..."
"Then Corey is willing to sell the stolen goods for the murderer. Could it be that they are in the same group?"
The hooligans at the scene started talking to each other. The Burton case had been a hot topic in Igwynte recently, and this topic had been discussed since then. As the discussion became more in-depth and intense, the initiator of the original topic, the bald man in overalls, left the scene quietly.
Standing on the roof of a building, Dorothy controlled her corpse puppet to stroll along White Pearl Street, spreading similar rumors everywhere.
Under Dorothy's deliberate manipulation, "the loan shark Corey received the stolen goods in the Burton case in his own pawn shop and came into contact with the suspected murderer of Burton's case." This kind of news gradually spread on White Pearl Street. According to Dorothy's estimation, it would not take long for such news to spread throughout the street and then reach the ears of those who needed to hear it.
"So... when will you take action?"
Watching the sun gradually setting in the sky, Dorothy murmured, "When Greg went out this morning, he told her that he would need to work overtime tonight, and Dorothy was also prepared to work a little overtime tonight."
…
The day fades and night falls.
The shadow of darkness gradually enveloped Igwynte and White Pearl Street.
Due to the unexpected situation that happened today, Corey was in a very bad mood. After scolding the guys who got nothing out of it, he announced that the shop would close early today and asked the guys to go home first.
"Damn it... Damn it... How could they lose track of so many people? What a bunch of useless idiots!"
Inside the shop, Corey locked the door while muttering to himself, his heart filled with anger but with nowhere to vent, he could only keep complaining.
"Huh... wait until tomorrow. I'll meet with Hackson tomorrow and ask his men to help. I don't believe that we can't catch that guy!
"When I catch that guy, I will chop off his hands and feet, put him in a coffin and sink him to the bottom of the Iron Mud River! Just like I did to those ungrateful guys before!"
Complaining, Corey was thinking about using his underworld connections to find someone for help. Just as he locked the door and turned around to do other things, a black glove stretched out from behind him, holding a dagger to his throat.
"Don't move, Corey Cross..."
Hearing the whisper coming from behind, Corey's heart tightened suddenly, his eyes widened, and the anger in his heart turned into uneasy fear.
Why, why are you here again! When did this come into my store?
Corey's heart was churning as he was threatened for the first time today. Finally, he forced himself to calm down, smiled and thought about what to say to the threat behind him.
"Hey, sir, let's talk it out. If you want money, I don't have it on me right now. Let me go first and I'll get it for you."
"I don't need money. I just want to ask you if you received any stolen property from the Burton Weir case at noon today?"
Standing behind Corey, a tall man in black clothes and a hooded mask threatened Corey slowly. After listening, Corey quickly nodded in response.
"Yes, yes, yes! I have received things from Burton Weir!"
"What is it? Where is it?" the man in black continued to ask threateningly, and Corey did not dare to slack off in responding.
"In my right pocket is a pocket watch. Let me show it to you..."
"No need... I can do it myself..."
As he spoke, the man in black reached his free hand into Corey's pocket, and fumbled out a pocket watch. He opened it with one hand and quickly read the name engraved on it.
"Who came to pawn this watch here? Do you know each other?"
Looking at the pocket watch in his hand, the man in black continued to ask, and Corey continued to answer in panic after listening to his words.
"Yes, it was a man, a little tall, wearing a black windbreaker and a hat. He had a gun and his face was covered. I couldn't see his face clearly. I didn't know him at all!"
"to be honest……"
"I, I'm telling the truth, sir! That guy even used a gun to force me to take the watch! I really have nothing to do with him, and I can't even see what he looks like! Please let me go!"
Corey begged for mercy. Hearing his words, the man in black nodded slowly. After putting the pocket watch in his pocket, he put down the gun on Corey's neck and pushed him forward.
"Stand there and don't look back."
"Yes, yes, I won't look back!"
Corey quickly promised, and the man in black nodded after hearing Corey's promise, then turned and walked away. However, Corey, who was humiliated for the first time today, would not just listen to him. He stood where he was, staring at the drawer of the cabinet in front of him with resentful eyes.
Without saying a word, Corey immediately took two steps forward and pulled out a drawer, then took out a revolver. He immediately turned around and pointed the gun at the man in black who was about to leave, ready to pull the trigger.
"Oh my god...ah..."
Before Corey could finish his words, a gun flew out from a dark corner of the room and hit Corey's neck directly. Corey fell down with his eyes wide open before he could fire his gun.
Corey Cross, the notorious loan shark on White Pearl Street, died in his own store.
Then, from the dark corner where the flying ghost came out, another masked man in black walked out. He stood beside Corey's body together with the man who was about to leave, and said with a sneer.
"Everyone in White Pearl knows that Corey Cross's promise is worthless..."
After saying that, a man in black took out a palm-sized piece of straw paper from his body, squatted down and slapped it on the forehead of Corey's big-mouthed corpse. Then the straw paper burned quickly, leaving a faint "cup" mark on Corey's forehead.
Then, every inch of flesh and blood on Corey's body strangely began to evaporate automatically, and quickly rotted and spread, starting from the skin, muscles, and internal organs. Every bit of blood and flesh was evaporating, turning into blue smoke.
In a short period of time, only bones and clothes were left where Corey's body had been.
"Hurry up and deal with it. Mr. Clifford is still waiting for us..."
A man in black took out a bag and put all the bones and clothes left by Corey into the bag. Then the two of them climbed out of a side window with the bag and escaped into an empty alley under the cover of night.
But what they didn't know was that everything they did in the store was seen by a lizard lying on the ceiling, and while they were picking up the bones, a smaller lizard had inadvertently crawled into Corey's trouser leg and was taken away by them.
At this moment, in a dark corner of the street, Dorothy slowly opened her eyes.
"Finally... I caught you guys..."
