Chapter 3011 General Administration
On the platform of Tivian West Station, Greg couldn't help but pause when he saw the three men in front of him. After seeing the badges in their hands, he knew what was going on.
The crown and sword, with the surrounding flowing wind and crescent moon, are printed with the logo of the Pritt Security Bureau. It is a slight modification of the emblem of the Pritt royal family. Gregor is very familiar with it.
"This is the person sent by the General Administration to pick me up..."
Looking at the scene in front of him, Greg made a judgment in his heart, and then answered with a smile.
"I'm Gregos Meshhos. Thank you for your hard work. Please lead the way."
Gregor said this, and then the people in front of him nodded and accepted the badges, then turned around and walked to the back. One of them reached out to take Gregor's box, and Gregor gave it to him.
Led by several men, Gregor walked out of the train station. At the busy intersection in front of the train station, he saw a large black carriage parked on the side of the road.
Afterwards, Gregor got on the carriage with a few others and sat in the carriage which was much more spacious than ordinary carriages. Then, several horses began to pull the carriage forward.
Gregor sat in the carriage, feeling the slight bumps. The windows in the carriage were closed, so he couldn't see the street outside. He didn't know which street the carriage was on and where it was going. Gregor knew that this method didn't want him to know the location of the General Administration.
"Heh... I'm going to go to work at the bureau soon. I wonder if my position is not good enough?"
With a smile, Gregor said jokingly to the men sitting in front of him, and the leader of the group also answered easily.
"This is just routine practice, Mr. Meschos. Before you are officially appointed, you are not one of us. According to regulations, any outsider who is not a formal member must enter the General Administration in this way.
"By the way, let me introduce myself. My name is Mai Fudi. I work in the Examination Department and will be responsible for your face-to-face examination. I hope you will cooperate with me later."
The contact in front of Gregor, named McFoodie, said this, and then stretched out his hand. After seeing this, Gregor smiled and handed over his hand to shake hands with the other party.
"That's right. He hasn't been officially appointed yet and hasn't passed the review yet. This measure is understandable."
Gregor thought so in his mind as he continued to move forward in the closed carriage. He felt a little bored for a moment. He looked at the table in front of him and saw several local Tivian newspapers, so he picked them up curiously and started reading. He was attracted by the news and advertisements from big cities.
"Oh... There are so many things in this big city, circuses, amusement parks, racetracks, shopping malls, art exhibitions, theaters... There's even something... a movie theater?! Many of these things are not available in Igwinter... They all look very interesting. If I have some free time while working here, I can take Dorothy to have some fun. Children of her age should be interested in amusement parks, circuses, and the like..."
Looking at the contents of the newspaper in his hand, Gregor's heart was filled with novel thoughts. Yearning for the big city, he suddenly began to look forward to a new life even more. As he continued to turn the pages of the newspaper, he was attracted by a large-page photo of a charming woman.
"This woman... is so beautiful, the dancing star Adele... is this the star of Tivian? She is so beautiful..."
Looking at the photos of the celebrities in the newspaper, Greg couldn't help but sigh in his heart. Although the photos in newspapers in this era have limited clarity and are all in black and white, they can't conceal the charm of the woman in the photo. Looking at the photos in the newspaper, Greg felt that this is indeed a big city, even the celebrities are so beautiful.
"As expected of the capital, there are so many things going on here. But on the other hand, the public security here doesn't seem to be very good. Cases are reported quite frequently, and the efficiency of the police here seems to be a bit low. We actually have to rely on detectives to help solve the problems. I don't know if this has anything to do with secrecy."
He continued to flip through the newspaper in his hand, and after reading reports of many cases, he continued to think in his mind. As time passed, he was about to reach his destination.
Finally, after almost an hour and a half, Gregor felt that the carriage he was riding in began to go down a long slope. The light around him began to become dimmer. The only light source in the carriage became a colored gas lamp. Gregor knew that the carriage seemed to have gone underground.
The carriage only went downhill for a while, then stopped. The person in the carriage stood up and opened the door. Gregor put down the newspaper in his hand and followed. After getting off the carriage, he found himself in an underground stable. On the edge of the wide underground space, there were many empty carriages without horses. People moved horses from other places and harnessed them to the carriages. Uniformed hunters drove the carriages towards the uphill exit.
"Please continue with us, Mr. Meshhaus."
After just a quick observation, the McFoodies around Gregor started talking, and Gregor didn't say anything more and continued to follow them. After leaving the underground stable, they entered a long corridor. They walked along the corridor, and other people passed by from time to time, some were clerks holding documents, and some were hunters in uniform.
After turning left several times in the winding corridor and passing through a door with a fluorescent lamp above it, Gregor finally walked out of the corridor. With a sudden burst of clarity in front of his eyes, he came to an extremely wide underground space.
This is an underground hall. Thick stone pillars three or four stories high are neatly arranged in rows, supporting a wide dome. In the center of the dome is inlaid a strange and huge gem. The gem emits a cold white light, which, together with countless bright lamps hanging on the wall, illuminates the dark space.
People were coming and going in the underground hall. On the most conspicuous high wall in the hall, the white and blue national flag of the Prit Kingdom with overlapping cross stripes was hung high. However, the most attractive thing in the hall was not the huge national flag hanging high, but a tall statue standing in the center of the hall.
This is a statue of a goddess. The goddess is wearing a long robe and holding a round mirror in front of her chest. There is a crescent moon engraved on the mirror. The head of the goddess has long hair flowing down, and the hair is so long that it even spreads on the pedestal. The face of the goddess seems to have been specially processed, and it is extremely blurry. Only the facial features can be seen very barely, but it can still be felt that the goddess is posing with a calm expression with her eyes closed.
The moment he stepped on the marble floor of the underground hall, Gregor was stunned. His eyes were fixed on the statue of the goddess standing under the dome of the hall. His expression was much more focused than when he saw the photo of the female star in the carriage before.
Gregor stared at the goddess statue in front of him in a trance, his mouth slightly open, with an indescribable strangeness in his heart. His eyes were fixed on the very blurry face of the goddess, and a familiar feeling arose.
"Why do I feel like I've seen this statue before, but I can't remember where? Strange... I've never seen a statue like this since I was a child? But why does it feel so familiar..."
Gregor thought so in his heart with a slight frown, and at this moment, the people who had led the way for him also discovered Gregor's abnormality.
"Mr. Meshhos? What's wrong with you?"
McFadden, who was leading the way, reminded Gregor. After hearing the reminder, he immediately reacted, then turned around and responded with a smile.
"Oh... nothing, I'm just a little interested in this stone statue. What exactly is this statue carved out of? It shouldn't be a saint, right?" Gregor asked the guide beside him, and the other party thought about it and then looked at Gregor to answer.
"This... this is definitely not a holy statue... but I don't know what it is specifically."
"You don't know either?"
