Chapter 47 Discussion

"Whether they are getting a divorce or not, we have to welcome the person in." Nan Hongqiu immediately found a way out for herself. She followed the two maids beside her and quickly went out of the hall to welcome the person.

Soon, Nan Hongqiu welcomed Wen Tingbai into the house and started talking about dinner. "Sir, have you eaten yet? They are eating at home. You are here at the perfect time. Let's have a quick meal before leaving."

Wen Tingbai feigned a laugh, looking like a gentleman. "Auntie is so kind as to give me a meal, so I shouldn't refuse. But the elders at home are still waiting for me, so I came here today to take Wan Ning home."

"Really?" Nan Hongqiu's face lit up with joy after hearing what Wen Tingbo said. "Wan Ning is in the hall, but she seems a little angry. Now that Tingbo is here, try to comfort her. There's no such thing as an overnight grudge between husband and wife."

"Thank you, auntie. This is all Tingbai's fault. I came here today specifically to apologize to Wanning." When Wen Tingbai spoke, he had already followed Nan Hongqiu to the hall. His eyes first fell on Song Jing, and then on Song Wanning.

"Good boy, you only have Wan Ning in your eyes. Go quickly." Nan Hongqiu pointed in the direction to Wen Tingbai with a smile.

Wen Tingbai walked a few steps to Song Wanning's side and bowed, "Wanning, if you have finished the reunion dinner, please come home with me. The elders at home are worried and are waiting for you."

Song Wanning remained silent, and the old lady sitting above immediately spoke up, "Wanning, since Brother Bo has come to pick you up, you should go back with him. It's not always possible to have such a blessing of being picked up like this."

After hearing what the old lady said, Song Wanning immediately stood up and looked at everyone, saying, "I've already said I want a divorce, so I won't be returning. Please go back on your own, Mr. Bai. I'll come to discuss the divorce in two days."

"Is it really like this, Wan Ning?" Wen Tingbai looked distraught, as if he was deeply in love. "We've been married for three years. How can this relationship be severed just like that?"

Song Wanning glanced directly at Wen Tingbai and said unhappily, "I've already made it clear to you. Who are you pretending to be for?"

Seeing that Song Wanning was not convinced, Wen Tingbai turned his attention to Song Jing who was sitting in front of him.

Wen Tingbai walked to Song Jing's side and bowed, saying, "My son-in-law greets my father-in-law. I know that I have done something inappropriate, so I came here today to apologize. I hope you will forgive me this time."

Song Jing glanced at Wen Tingbai and said, "A few days ago, you told me that you would show me your sincerity and get rid of all the concubines in your house. As far as I know, you didn't kick that concubine out, and you actually took in another one. Are you deliberately trying to make things difficult for me?"

"Father-in-law, please understand." Wen Tingbai knew he was in the wrong, but he admitted his mistake with a clear attitude. "This matter is really dishonorable for your son-in-law. My concubine is already pregnant, so it is not convenient to divorce her. My other concubine has been my concubine for many years and should have been promoted to a concubine long ago, but it has been delayed. However, your son-in-law dared to make a promise. After the concubine gives birth, she will definitely raise the child under Wan Ning's lap. I will not take another concubine."

Wen Tingbai's words were all reasonable, and the old lady above him nodded repeatedly, "Which wealthy family doesn't have two concubines? If you don't have concubines, it's not decent to say it out loud. Tingbai only has two concubines, which is not too many."

Song Jing's expression grew colder, but he still spoke patiently, "From what I understand, you and your wife are already at odds. You even abandoned your bride on your wedding night and went to the frontier. Why have you changed your mind now?"

Wen Tingbai felt really guilty when he heard this, so he lowered his head again and said, "Father, I was young and ignorant back then, and I didn't know how good Wan Ning was. Only now that I'm older do I realize how big a mistake I made, and I sincerely want to make it up to Wan Ning. I hope you, father-in-law, will give me another chance."

"Since the relationship is not harmonious, how can we talk about amending it?" Song Jing was used to fighting on the battlefield, and his words made everyone around him subconsciously hold their breath and concentrate. "Let's get a divorce. I will naturally come to discuss the divorce in the Marquis' Mansion in two days."

"Father-in-law..." Wen Tingbai's smile was now uglier than crying. He wanted to say something else but was interrupted by Song Jing.

"Wan Ning won't go back with you today. You just need to go back to the Marquis' Mansion on your own." Song Jing said, "If you don't want to, my Song Mansion is not afraid of going to court."

"No, no, no, it's not that serious. It's not that serious." Wen Tingbai shook his head repeatedly after hearing what Song Jing said, and said with a bow, "Since my father-in-law said so, Tingbai will go home first and greet the elders at home and wait for my father-in-law to come."

Seeing Song Jing's firm stance, Wen Tingbai became displeased and had to leave the mansion in disappointment.

As soon as the man left, the old lady flew into a rage, pointing at Song Jing's forehead and cursing, "Song Jing, you are so rebellious now, openly going against your parents. It's really chilling. If you really want Wan Ning to divorce, you don't have to call me mother anymore."

The old lady is a second wife and has never been close to Song Jing, but now she is good at acting like an elder.

"Madam, why do you have to say such things? My son has always been a rough man. If there is anything that is not considerate, please forgive me." Song Jing stood up and said slowly, "Madam and my sister-in-law arranged this marriage for Wan Ning. I have not yet settled the score with you. Now I just want to make amends. Why are you so aggressive?"

"You, you..." The old lady almost couldn't breathe after hearing this. She said angrily, "How could I raise such an unfilial son like you? If I had known you were little, I should have thrown you into the river and drowned you. You wouldn't say such disrespectful words when you grow up."

"My son still has official business to attend to, so he won't continue talking with Madam. Just let the younger generations accompany Madam." Song Jing said, glanced at Song Lan, turned around and left the hall.

Song Lan received the order and quickly jumped to the old lady and poured her a cup of tea. "Don't be angry, old ancestor. Don't bother with the old man. He is a rough man and his words are not pleasant to the ears. It's my grandson who speaks nicely. Even if it's your fault, you shouldn't say it directly..."

"Get lost!" the old lady cursed coldly, "Your family can't produce a good child."

"Okay." Song Lan was not angry even after being scolded. He smiled and walked down a few steps to Song Wanning, patted Song Wanning's chair, and said, "Let's go!"

Just like that, the family of three left the hall, and what remained was a real family.

Seeing that the person had finally left, Song Wanshi opened up her mouth. She looked at Nan Hongqiu with a sorrowful face and said, "Mother...what should I do? I haven't even discussed marriage yet. If Song Wanning divorces me, how can I get married?"
