Chapter 33 Secrets of the Harem

Late at night, in the Heavenly Dou Imperial Palace, where the harem is located.

Although Emperor Xueye did not have three thousand beauties in his harem, he still had quite a few concubines, but not many of them were able to give birth to his sons.

Apart from the deceased empress, only three concubines gave birth to princes and were placed in the best palaces.

Their children, being minors, stayed by their mother's side.

Consort Lan's Palace.

In the pitch-black night, a gust of wind blew open the wooden window, waking Consort Lan from her sleep on the bed.

Consort Lan looked to be in her early thirties, with a slender and graceful figure, soft and jade-like arms like snow lotus roots, beautifully rounded and long jade legs, and slender and smooth calves. Paired with delicate, smooth, tender and jade-like skin and bones, she truly had a captivating and alluring charm.

As she subconsciously raised her chin and groggily looked towards the wooden window, she suddenly woke up with a start, her face showing fear.

Just as she was about to shout, the wooden window slowly closed, and the entire palace fell into silence.

All that remained was Consort Lan, who was filled with terror but unable to utter a sound; the sleeping Fourth Prince, Xue Beng; and the burly man who suddenly appeared in the palace.

"If you don't want to die, then don't make a sound."

The burly man was none other than the Serpent Douluo who worked for Xiao Chenyu. He glared at Lan Fei with a chilling gaze before slowly withdrawing his imposing aura.

Consort Lan was quite beautiful, but he had seen all kinds of women in his 80 years of life, so he had no interest in this woman who was even younger than his granddaughter.

Consort Lan nodded hastily. She didn't know what she would face today, but even if something unexpected happened, she didn't want to do it in front of her 5-year-old child.

Although her body was trembling with fear, Consort Lan covered Xue Beng, who was sleeping soundly beside her, with a blanket and insisted on leading the Thorn Serpent Douluo to the front hall.

Seeing the Serpent Douluo sitting arrogantly in the main seat, Consort Lan dared not make any rash moves and simply stood obediently to the side.

She didn't know who this person was, but to be able to enter her residence so easily late at night, his strength was definitely unfathomable.

At the very least, manipulating them, mother and son, would be an absolute breeze.

"Sir, what brings you here today?"

"My name is Porcupine Douluo," Porcupine Douluo said calmly.

"Porcupinefish... Your Majesty the Porcupinefish!?"

Consort Lan stared in shock at the man sitting in the main seat before her, her whole body trembling with fear.

With her family elders having connections to the Spirit Hall, how could she not know the name of the Porcupine Douluo?

Unlike the relatively unknown Serpent Spear Douluo, the Porcupine Douluo has always been very famous in the Heaven Dou Empire, simply because he frequently challenges Sword Douluo Chen Xin.

Although they always lost, their strength was still at the title level.

"This is a letter from the Holy Son to you."

Without wasting any words, the Porcupine Douluo slammed a letter onto the table.

Seeing this, Consort Lan dared not say anything more and silently picked up the letter to read it.

Upon first glance, Consort Lan quickly revealed a look of surprise and delight.

But soon, her expression gradually worsened. Finally, however, she regained her composure.

The Porcupine Douluo was aware of the contents of the letter.

Lan Fei's expression was exactly what he had expected.

The letter begins by stating that the Spirit Hall would secretly support Avalanche, and the Qianxue incident is just an appetizer.

Only when the crown prince loses popular support will the other princes have an opportunity.

This is why Consort Lan was pleasantly surprised. As the porcupine could see, Consort Lan's mind, while not entirely innocent, was not particularly profound either.

The reputation of the Spirit Hall was enough to make Consort Lan accept it willingly.

The rest of the letter concerned the obligations that Consort Lan and Xue Beng had to fulfill.

The Spirit Hall is not a charitable organization, so it would not help Xue Beng and Lan Fei for no reason.

In return, Avalanche will have some leverage over the Spirit Hall.

For example, Qianxue's death was a conspiracy between Consort Lan and the Spirit Hall, as evidenced by their letters.

For example, if a prince dies in the future, it won't just be the Spirit Hall's doing; Consort Lan and Xue Beng will also be involved. The Spirit Hall will only provide military support in secret.

These are all leverage that Consort Lan and Xue Beng must give to the Spirit Hall. In exchange, the Spirit Hall will try its best to make Xue Beng replace Xue Qinghe as the crown prince.

Lan Fei initially found it hard to accept that the Spirit Hall had leverage over her, but as she calmed down, she also realized the problem.

From the moment the Porcupine Douluo entered their palace, they no longer had a choice.

If your life is in the other party's hands, then there's no need to worry about anything like leverage.

Their only option was to ascend to the supreme throne and then use the power of the Heaven Dou Empire to counterbalance the Spirit Hall.

There was no other choice.

Consort Lan pursed her lips, handed the letter back to the Porcupine Douluo, and tried her best to calm herself down. Her voice trembled slightly, but she still managed to finish what she was saying:

"We have granted the request of that Holy Son."

She didn't know when the Spirit Hall had acquired a Holy Son, but she was also aware that she wouldn't get any answers if she asked.

"A wise choice."

The Porcupine Douluo grinned, and a gentle breeze blew by, causing the wooden window in Consort Lan's Palace to open again.

And the figure of the Porcupine Douluo also vanished without a trace.

The main courtyard of the Crown Prince's residence.

It was already late at night, but Xiao Chenyu and the others were still awake.

Qian Renxue, disguised as Xue Qinghe, sat cross-legged beside him, meditating.

It wasn't that she didn't want to participate in Xiao Chenyu and She Long's conversation, but rather that listening would be pointless; she simply couldn't grasp the deeper meaning behind their profound discussions.

Instead, she needed She Long and Xiao Chenyu to explain things to her, so she simply stopped listening. Anyway, she was going to be a prince who just lazed around and waited for Xiao Chenyu to give her the script.
