Dead silence.
The dull thud of the tall corpse falling to the ground became the only sound in the hellish killing field.
Before the smell of blood could dissipate, it was frozen by an invisible chill.
Clean, neat, and even with a touch of elegance.
This was far more shocking than any gruesome scene of disembowelment. Fear arose from the unknown. They hadn't even seen how Ning Liu made his move.
Once he was certain that no one dared to challenge his authority again, Ning Liu continued with satisfaction.
"Very good, it seems everyone here is reasonable."
His tone softened, becoming less aggressive, and he spoke as if he were chatting with a group of old friends.
“I know what you’re thinking. This is a killing city, a law of the jungle, a rule ingrained in your very being. You’ve survived this long because of it.”
“Now that I’m here, I’m going to destroy it. You feel like I’m cutting off your way out.”
These words struck a chord with many who had fallen from grace.
They all looked up, their eyes filled with complex emotions.
"But have you ever thought about how far this path can take us?"
Ning Liu's voice suddenly rose to a high pitch, like a resounding bell, making everyone's eardrums buzz.
"Kill a hundred times? And then what? Go and brave that hellish road where you have a slim chance of survival? Even if you manage to succeed by sheer luck, what will you gain?"
"A title of 'God of Slaughter'? A domain that can be corrupted by Bloody Mary?"
"Then you leave here, be hunted down by soul masters all over the continent, be wanted by the Spirit Hall, and hide like a dog?"
His words were like a sharp knife, precisely dissecting the cruelest truth of the killing city.
"This city beneath your feet is not a paradise, not even a shelter. It's a hoax, a trap!"
"It uses the most primal desires and the cruelest rules to select the most powerful Gu King."
"Then let this Gu King bear a legacy that does not belong to him, and ultimately become someone else's wedding dress."
Ning Liu's gaze swept across the entire room, his voice carrying a knowing mockery:
"What you think is the end is just someone else's starting point. The glory you risk your life for is just a joke."
The room fell into a deathly silence, which was then followed by a huge uproar.
"scam?"
"Becoming someone else's wedding dress? What does that mean?"
The fallen whispered among themselves, many with expressions of confusion and anger on their faces.
They never considered their fate from this perspective. All they knew was to kill, kill, kill, in order to survive, and for that elusive title of "God of Slaughter."
Ning Liu's words made them, for the first time, begin to question the meaning of what they had been pursuing all along.
Bibi Dong's pupils contracted slightly.
Of course she knew all of this.
But what exactly does Ning Liu want to do?
"The old road is a dead end."
Ning Liu didn't give them much time to discuss, summarizing in one sentence.
"And I will give you a new path, a way to survive."
He held up one finger.
"First, those who want to prove their strength and enjoy being the center of attention, go ahead! The Hell Slaughter Arena is reserved!"
These words sparked an idea in many bloodthirsty and belligerent degenerates.
"However, the rules need to be changed."
Ning Liu changed the subject,
"From now on, the killing field will adopt a points system."
"The victor will receive points, which can be used to exchange for food, shelter, or even the immortal herbs and soul tools that I bestow upon them."
"Losers will have points deducted, but they will not die. Those whose points reach zero will be disqualified from entering the killing field."
"In other words, this is no longer a battlefield of life and death, but an arena of gladiatorial combat. It is a place for you to demonstrate your strength, win glory and wealth, not just a slaughterhouse."
This proposal stunned most people.
Don't have to die?
Can I exchange it for something else?
This sounds...okay?
Many of them were not born with the pleasure of killing, but were forced into it.
If one can obtain resources for survival through combat while preserving their life, the risk is undoubtedly much smaller.
“Second,” Ning Liu extended his second finger.
"For those who are tired of fighting, or who think they are not strong enough, I will also give you a way."
The curve of his lips became somewhat strange, causing everyone who saw it to feel a chill.
"I discovered on my way here that there are a lot of mines outside the Killing City."
"I will designate safe zones. You can go mining there and exchange ores for points. The more you work, the more you earn, and there will be no cheating."
"..."
An eerie silence fell over the entire room once again.
Mining.
Mining again!
This word appears for the second time today, but its meaning is completely different.
The first time was punishment, but the second time it actually became a way out?
A sallow-faced, emaciated degenerate couldn't help but mutter under his breath:
"Send us, a bunch of ruthless killers, to be miners? Is the city lord out of his mind...?"
Before he could finish speaking, someone next to him covered his mouth tightly.
"Are you fucking crazy?! Have you forgotten how that axe-wielding guy died?"
Ning Liu seemed to hear their thoughts and smiled:
"Don't feel wronged. I'm telling you, this is the city of freedom. Freedom doesn't mean you can do whatever you want, but rather that you have the right to choose."
"You can choose to fight for wealth and glory in the arena with your fists and your life, or you can choose to exchange your sweat for a stable daily meal in the mine."
"Do you want to be a gladiator living a precarious life, or a miner with a nine-to-five job, a good night's sleep, and a peaceful life? The choice is yours."
