Chapter 29 Jumping into the Sea
When Chen Zhu opened the door, there was nothing outside.
Did you hear it wrong?
Chen Zhu turned around and was about to close the door when he heard the humming sound again behind him.
This time he confirmed the direction of the voice. Chen Zhu lowered his head and met a pair of watery eyes.
The milky white furry puppy was lying in the box. When it saw Chen Zhu looking at it, it immediately struggled to climb out of the box.
Chen Zhu squatted down and picked up the puppy with both hands.
It was probably just one month old, with just a few sharp teeth showing in its open mouth. It was not afraid of being held in the palm of the hand. It lowered its head and began to sniff Chen Zhuyi's hand. Then it crawled forward two steps and took Chen Zhuyi's thumb into its mouth and began to suck it with an "Ah Wu".
Chen Zhuyi found it funny.
Is this mistaking her fingers for milk?
"Who put you here, little one?"
It is actually fat and white.
After looking around and seeing no sign of anyone, Chen Zhu poked the puppy's head and hesitated whether to take it back.
Ma Yang doesn't know how to cook, and was bored sitting alone in the hall. He was about to go out to pick up some firewood when he saw Chen Zhuyi squatting at the door. He scratched his head and walked over.
"Shen Zhiqing, what are you doing?"
Seeing the puppy in Chen Zhuyi's hand, Ma Yang's eyes widened, and he walked forward with interest and squatted beside him.
"Yo! It's a little wolf-dog!"
"Wolfdog?" Chen Zhu looked at the palm-sized puppy and made a connection with the majestic wolfdog. "Are there white wolfdogs?"
Aren’t all wolfhounds in her memory brown and black?
Ma Yang looked at the wolfhound carefully again and nodded affirmatively.
"It's probably the offspring of a wolfdog and a local dog. Wolfdog genes are very strong. Look at this dog's long muzzle and thick claws. They're wolfdog genes, so it's likely to be quite big when it grows up."
When Chen Zhu saw Ma Yang was so sure, he turned around and continued to look at the puppy.
The little puppy didn't get any milk and started whining because of hunger.
Chen Zhu pinched the puppy's neck and lifted it up.
"Isn't this a pure-blooded wolfhound that grows up to be a guardian of its master?"
Ma Yang nodded.
"It has nothing to do with bloodline. All dogs protect their masters. But with wolfdog bloodline, he's probably going to fight more fiercely."
Fierce in fighting?
Chen Zhu's eyes fell on the puppy. After thinking for a moment, he put the dog back into the box, then turned around and went back into the house with the box.
After the door closed, a small figure emerged from the haystack.
Ma Yang followed Shen Zhuyi back to the hall.
"Shen Zhiqing, do you want to keep this dog?"
"Well, it's not safe for me to live alone. A dog is a companion and can watch over the house. If anything happens, it can rush over to protect me."
"Then you should definitely keep one." Ma Yang teased the puppy with a slurping sound. "What are you going to name this dog?"
Chen Zhu took the unused window paste, mixed it with water, found a small bowl and poured it in and placed it in front of the puppy.
Looking at the puppy wolfing down the food, Chen Zhu tilted his head and thought for a moment.
"Let's call it Sui Sui, which means peace every year."
Ma Yang muttered the name and nodded seriously.
"What a nice meaning! If we roughnecks were to name him something, it would probably be Dabai or Xiaobai." Ma Yang looked around. "Sui Sui doesn't have a place to live yet, right? I see some wooden planks in the corner. How about I make him a doghouse?"
Chen Zhuyi naturally had no objection.
Leaving Sui Sui in the box again, Chen Zhu went to the kitchen to continue cooking.
As soon as I entered the kitchen, I found that Huo Jinzhi had already cut all the vegetables and was now lighting a fire in front of the stove. He was sitting on a low stool. He had nowhere to put his long legs, so he could only bend his knees. Coupled with the apron around his waist, he looked a bit pitiful and ridiculous.
Chen Zhuyi suppressed his smile and walked forward.
Huo Jinzhi stood up when he saw Chen Zhu coming. "Why don't you add some firewood? I'll cook. These are seafood. You lived in the mainland before, so you probably don't know how to cook them. I know how to make them delicious."
Knowing that Chen Zhuyi might refuse, Huo Jinzhi continued, "We've known each other for such a long time, we're all friends. Let's not talk about whether it's appropriate or not. Besides, you've already contributed the ingredients, so it's okay for me to cook. If we follow the rules you mentioned, guests can't cook. Then my rule is that women can't cook."
Chen Zhuyi was amused by Huo Jinzhi's remarks.
Since the other person insisted on cooking, it would be embarrassing for her to refuse. Besides, it would save her trouble if she didn't have to cook, so she nodded, sat down and started to light the fire.
The seafood that Chen Zhuyi bought included crabs, squids, clams, and shrimps.
Huo Jinzhi was pouring oil when he suddenly remembered something.
"Do you have any dietary restrictions?"
Chen Zhu shook his head: "No."
After Huo Jinzhi found out, he turned around and cut a few more dried chilies. He poured the minced garlic and dried chilies into the stir-fry. After the pungent aroma came out, he added the squid, along with the side dishes and seasonings...
The overbearing spicy smell rushed into Chen Zhuyi's nasal cavity, and his mouth began to secrete saliva involuntarily.
What Ma Yang said is true. Just by smelling it, you can tell it’s definitely not bad.
If I make it myself, it won’t be as delicious.
Chen Zhu had been busy all morning and hadn't eaten a single bite of food. Now there was such a delicious smell tempting him. The more he smelled it, the hungrier he became. He could only find something else to distract himself.
Add firewood! Add firewood!
Huo Jinzhi soon discovered that the fire was a little too strong and the temperature was too high, and the minced garlic that had just been poured in turned black.
I wanted to turn around and tell Shen Zhuyi not to add more firewood, but when I turned around, I forgot what I wanted to say.
The red flames reflected on Shen Zhuyi's face. Under the illumination of the flames, her skin looked even smoother, with a delicate jawline, cherry lips and a beautiful nose. The raging flames in her eyes seemed to want to drown people in it.
A burnt smell came from the air, and Chen Zhu looked up at the pot.
Inside is fried black garlic.
Chen Zhu exclaimed.
Huo Jinzhi finally came to his senses and hurriedly shoveled the garlic out of the pot, then scooped a bucket of water and poured it into the pot.
"The fire is too strong. There's no need to put more wood in. There's too much smoke here. Go out and wait."
While speaking, Huo Jinzhi kept staring at the black water in the pot and did not dare to look at Chen Zhuyi.
Chen Zhuyi felt a little embarrassed.
Adding more firewood could actually make things worse. I felt it was unnecessary to do so, so I hummed and walked out.
After Chen Zhu left, Huo Jinzhi reached out and touched his chest.
The heart beats violently and rapidly.
…
Just as Chen Zhu went out, Ye Xumei came back. She was holding a stack of bowls and chopsticks in her arms, but her face looked unhappy.
"Huang Cuicui jumped into the sea."
Chen Zhu was stunned as if struck by lightning.
"Have you rescued him?"
Ye Xumei shook his head.
"No, he passed away." The last three words were said with great difficulty.
Chen Zhu was silent for a long time before he hummed and spoke softly, "Hasn't he been detained? Why would he go to the beach?"
Ye Xumei breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Chen Zhuyi was in good condition.
"It is said that Huang Cuicui wanted to send a telegram to her parents, but she suddenly ran away on the way and jumped into the sea."
Chen Zhu nodded and said nothing more. He sat in the hall looking at Sui Sui, not knowing what he was thinking.
When Huo Jinzhi came out after cooking, he keenly noticed that something was wrong.
Ma Yang was nailing wooden boards and Ye Xumei was teasing a puppy, but both of them were obviously absent-minded, and their eyes would occasionally glance at Chen Zhuyi who was sitting there in a daze.
Huo Jinzhi silently withdrew his gaze and raised his voice.
"It's time to eat."
