"You've come up with such wicked and insidious methods! How could you possibly be worthy of being the maternal family of a prince?! What good character could a woman raised in such a family possibly have?!"
In Shouci Palace, the old lady of the Xue family and the lady of Ningxiang Marquis knelt in the hall with pale faces, listening to the stern rebuke from the wrathful Empress Dowager above them, not daring to utter a sound.
"I am only sparing you today because of my grandson. But if you dare to have any wicked thoughts about my grandson again, I will not let you off easily!"
"At that time, let alone the Imperial Concubine, even if the First Prince himself comes to plead for you fools, I will not show any mercy!"
The Empress Dowager's anger was imposing and intimidating. The two ladies of the Xue family looked terrified, sweating profusely, and kowtowed repeatedly in agreement.
The hall quickly fell silent again. In the stillness, the unspoken oppression became increasingly suffocating and terrifying.
"Grandma Empress Dowager!"
A soft, sweet little voice slipped through the crack in the door and playfully entered the Empress Dowager's ears.
The Empress Dowager, who was still furious a moment ago, was slightly taken aback when she heard the baby's cry. She looked up and saw the little bundle of joy running in.
Those short little legs ran swiftly, her little face flushed red, her dimples were soft and sunken, and her smile was clean and bright.
"Grandma Empress Dowager! Grandma Empress Dowager!"
The little dumpling jumped onto the Empress Dowager's lap, looked up at her with a grin, and said in a childish voice, "Good morning, Grandma Empress Dowager! Niannian has come to play with Changyin!"
The Empress Dowager looked at the little fairy who pounced on her lap, and the stagnant air in the room instantly came alive. The anger on her face had long since disappeared, and she smiled lovingly, lowered her head and rubbed the little girl's head.
"Good morning, Niannian. Changyin just came over too. I had someone take her to play in the courtyard. Your fifth sister is here too. Go and play with them."
"Okay!" the little dumpling replied crisply, then skipped and hopped away.
The Empress Dowager looked at the little darling's cheerful figure and smiled lovingly, her mood instantly lifted by the sight of her.
"Children should be lively like this. They are so young, yet they have to act like old women all day long, so dull and lifeless."
The Empress Dowager thought of the granddaughters raised by the concubines in her palace and shook her head unhappily.
Look again at that little figure running around, the bells on her little bun swaying and jingling, so cute and adorable.
Just looking at her, the Empress Dowager felt that she was being imbued with her vitality and looked several years younger.
"This little girl, she ditched her maid and ran over here on her own again, didn't she?" The Empress Dowager shook her head with a smile and instructed, "Hewan, hurry up and follow her to check on her, make sure she doesn't fall."
"Hey!" He Wan quickly chased after him.
Zhuang You hurriedly caught up with Xia Yi, looking embarrassed. Zhuang You was alright, but Xia Yi had never run like this before. She was panting heavily, barely able to catch her breath.
This isn't some cute little fairy baby, it's clearly a rampaging little tiger!
Xia Yi thought angrily.
Then, Xia Yi, still in a daze, was pulled away by Zhuang You under the Empress Dowager's amused and loving gaze.
"Sister Changyin!"
As soon as the little dumpling went out, there was no need for the little palace maids to fawn over him; he would sniff the air and run away in a flash.
Sure enough, as soon as she turned the corner, she saw the figure of Princess Changyin leading Hu Bao.
