At three o'clock in the middle of the night, Balu, who was already asleep, was awakened by the vibration of his cell phone. It was Natu calling.
His dark eyes darkened. To have someone call him at this time must mean something happened in Yangon.
He put Nanxi's head back on the pillow, pressed the phone, tiptoed out of the bedroom, went downstairs and sat on the sofa in the living room before calling back.
"Natu, what happened?"
"Along, Yana is missing. Zhan Peng has gone crazy. He took his soldiers all over the place looking for her in the middle of the night and almost had the captain of the guards shot."
Baru lit a cigarette irritably. "Why did he disappear out of nowhere? Did he have another argument with Zhan Peng and go back to Daqili?"
"No, the people in Daqili said they haven't seen her go back. Damn, it's like she just disappeared from the face of the earth. Zhan Peng is completely crazy and won't listen to anyone's advice. He just caused a scene at the airport with his men, but didn't get anything out of it."
"What about that Thai woman? Did she do anything?" Baru's calm brows showed a hint of annoyance.
"Isn't Su Zhiyao Chinese?" Na Tu was a little confused.
"Whatever, who cares? Just tell me if that woman made any movement."
"No, after Zhan Peng beat her up that day, she ran away crying. Later, someone went to stake out Zhan Peng's house, but it seemed like they were looking for Zhan Peng, with no other intentions. She knew Zhan Peng's temper and probably wouldn't dare."
Baru sneered, "Don't dare? What's there for a drug dealer's daughter to be afraid of? Tell Yingbai to have his men keep an eye on Yana's family. If he doesn't catch the Half-Faced Buddha and ends up getting my brother's wife involved, I'll never let him go."
After hanging up the phone and finishing a cigarette, he sighed and called Zhan Peng.
"Baru, you still have the nerve to call me?"
As soon as the call was connected, Zhan Peng's roaring voice came over.
"It's not me who abducted your wife, why should I be too embarrassed to hit her?" The man raised his handsome eyebrows without any emotion.
"If you hadn't gone to China, would I have to stay away from home all day? How could Yana be lost?"
"You blame the dishes for the bad food? Myanmar belongs to me alone? If Mengge falls, we're all fucked up. Soldiers have to go wherever they're needed. I've been doing it for you for so many years. Do you think I've tired you out by using you for two or three days?"
He was muddleheaded to begin with, and his fallacies were even more prevalent. Zhan Peng was jumping up and down listening to him.
"But my wife is gone. Damn it, where can I go to seek justice? It's so chaotic out there now. I've spoiled Yana at home and she has no ability to protect herself. What if she runs away and gets caught? Aaron, I'm half dead..."
Zhan Peng was hysterical over there, and I could hear his pain and powerlessness through the phone.
"I'll do my best to help you find it, Zhan Peng. Cheer up. None of us can afford to collapse at this time. I'll be leaving the country in four hours and back in Yangon early this morning. Don't let your opponent see your weakness. The more you act like you care, the more dangerous Yana will be."
At the moment of life and death, any misjudgment could become a bullet shot into the hearts of their brothers.
After hanging up the phone, I lost all desire to sleep.
Balu was a little scared. If he had left Nan Xiaoxi in Yangon, would he be the one going crazy now?
The danger Chanpong faces is no less than his own. The Northern Myanmar Joint Defense Force he leads is a steel barrier between northern and southern Myanmar, and a steel gun facing international drug traffickers.
The domestic situation is becoming increasingly chaotic. Half-Faced Buddha must have other purposes for having his daughter appear in northern Myanmar. Zhan Peng met her by accident in a casino. There will never be a second chance like this, so he must not make any mistakes.
It was still dark and Nanxi was still asleep. She felt the man's big hand wandering on her body and reached out to push him away.
"Ba Xiaolu, please be quiet. I'm so sleepy."
The man kissed her forehead and said, "Baby, I'm leaving now. I'm heating up breakfast for you in the kitchen. Remember to eat it. When you go out, make sure Fu Chai follows you. Don't run around alone. Do you hear me?"
His voice was hoarse, and had nothing to do with lust. It was full of reluctance and inability to let go.
The woman on the bed finally opened her eyes and looked at him with her beautiful eyes. "So early? Can't you finish breakfast with me?"
"This little time is all stolen, baby. I can't really let Brother Meng shoot me. Just stay here and I'll come back to pick you up as soon as I'm done."
He stroked the little woman's jade-white shoulders, his eyes full of tenderness.
"I understand. Go ahead, and be careful." Nanxi pinched his face. "I'll transfer the gallery's shares soon, and then focus on preparing for the exam. Don't worry."
"Okay." Baru replied softly and rubbed her face. "Then I'll go."
After Balu left, Nanxi continued to sleep in the quilt. The lingering scent of him made her feel particularly at ease, but she couldn't fall asleep at all, so she simply took out her cell phone and played in bed.
The moment Nan Suzhi called, she was watching a video and accidentally clicked the answer button.
The person on the other end obviously didn't expect her to answer, and answered so quickly. He paused and spoke tentatively.
"Luanluan."
"Well, what's the matter?" Nanxi's voice was tangled and distant.
"Luanluan, I'm about to leave for Naypyidaw and want to talk to you." Nan Suzhi didn't know how to start. If he tried to explain, it would only make things more obvious. If he didn't explain, she would hold a grudge and probably would never talk to him again.
"Then be careful on the road." She said that and stopped talking.
"Baby, where are you? Can I come pick you up? I'm worried about you being outside."
