The night market in Yangon is bustling, noisy and full of the atmosphere of life.
Street vendors were selling all kinds of fresh fruits in bamboo baskets on both sides of the road. The fried food stalls were crowded with young men and women. At the entrance of the snack shop, the young man soliciting customers had an ingratiating smile on his face.
Baru was like a young boy who had just fallen in love, walking on the busy streets holding the hands of his girl. They were like an ordinary couple, walking through the ordinary streets. People coming and going around them would occasionally glance sideways at the girl who was obviously not of Burmese appearance but was too beautiful.
"Balu, what is this?" Nanxi asked, pointing to a plate of black stuff when passing by a fried food stall.
Although she often went to Mandalay, her activities were limited and she mostly stayed in wealthy areas. She had never been to this kind of night market.
"Fried insects, do you want some?" Balu said, and was about to go and buy some, but Nanxi grabbed him.
"Eh~, so disgusting, why would anyone eat something like this?"
"My dear lady, this thing is delicious. It's very crispy when you bite it, almost like potato chips."
Nanxi frowned, "Describe it to me, it's really~" She reached out and pinched the man's lower back, "I hate it so much."
Baru couldn't help laughing, "Nan Xiaoxi, why are you so cute~"
Nan Xiaoxi, you don’t know how much I like you.
"Well, call me cute sister from now on." Nanxi stared at the various specialty stalls and muttered casually.
"Sister." Balu was already uncomfortable with her bad taste in asking him to call her "sister".
He was already a man carrying a gun at the age of ten, but she was still unable to take care of herself after she turned twenty.
Where did you learn these weird tricks to make people call her sister?
"What did you say just now?" Nanxi turned around and stared at him with her beautiful eyes.
"I'm saying, what do you want to eat? You don't want to eat the meal at home, but you have to come here." The man avoided the question.
"That's better."
Nanxi was too lazy to expose him, so she turned around and squatted down to pick flowers at a flower stall.
Balu stood behind her, watching her smoke one cigarette after another, scratched his head, took out two US dollars from his pocket and handed them to the boss, said something in Burmese, then stuffed the flowers from the two bamboo baskets tightly into one bamboo basket, picked up the bamboo basket and put it on his back, took Nanxi's hand,
"Let's go, go eat. It's time for breakfast if you don't eat now."
Nanxi looked at his burly figure, carrying a basket of flowers on his back, which was funny and inexplicably handsome. Suddenly, she remembered a picture she had seen on the Internet. It showed a bunch of roses stuck on the black barrel of a tank.
It was an extreme contrast, yet inexplicably harmonious, very much like the current Baru.
It would be nice if he stopped carrying the gun and just kept carrying flowers for her.
We finally chose a Thai restaurant for dinner.
Nanxi randomly picked a few dishes and didn't even drink a sip of water when Shen Ce called. She frowned and looked up at Baru.
The man's black eyes were sharp, and a sneer appeared at the corner of his mouth. He leaned back against the chair and stretched out a hand, palm facing up.
Nanxi looked at him with her eyes, pursed her lips, hesitated for two seconds, and put the phone in his hand.
"Xixi, where have you been? Why haven't you come back for several days?" As soon as the phone was connected, Shen Ce's anxious voice came from the other end.
"What the hell do you care where my wife goes?" The man's voice was extremely arrogant and gangster-like.
“Balu——” Almost instantly, Shen Ce recognized his voice.
"Grandson, don't call my wife again, otherwise I will kill your whole family." Balu said as he raised his hand and rubbed Nanxi's arm with the back of his left hand.
"Humph," Shen Ce sneered, "Your wife? Burmese guy, you don't even know when to dream?"
"I'll let you know who's dreaming. Also, the fight between you and my wife won't be settled just because you lose another eye." After saying that, Baru hung up the phone.
"Don't be afraid. I won't let anyone bully you in the future. If anyone dares to bully you if I'm not by your side, I'll beat them to death. I'll cover for you." His handsome face was full of heartache. "Baby, I'm sorry."
"The Shen family is not easy to deal with." Nanxi shook her head. "I will handle these matters. Don't get involved. According to my father's style, he will take action against the Shen family sooner or later. Just stay out of it, okay?"
The beautiful woman's face was full of worry. "China is not like Myanmar. If you attack him again, you will be arrested. Baru, I don't want Shen Ce to threaten me with your life anymore."
"I know, baby, I know." Baru rubbed her head. "Don't worry, it won't happen again."
Halfway through the meal, Wu Meng called. Balu took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. Seeing his wife glaring at him, he stood up with a silly smile, raised his chin towards the door, indicating that he would go outside to smoke and make a phone call. Nanxi then lowered her head and continued eating.
"Alu, have you received the news that the Democratic League called on local armed forces to cooperate to fight against government forces?" Wu Meng said in a hoarse and low voice.
"Yeah, I see, Mengge."
He squatted on the curb with a gangster-like look, and put down the cigarette in his mouth. "Beat them if you want. They are just a bunch of rabble. Kill two of them, and the rest will not dare to show up."
"That being said, the key is who is the right person to kill."
"Once Angsu's statement is released, whoever responds first will be fucking killed." The ruffian's handsome eyes were gloomy, and there was no ripple on his face, but the murderous aura spread from his body.
"You mean, Minbozan?"
"No? He's the one who's dancing the most. It's fine if someone else just issued a statement, but this bastard even dared to bring the army over. We'll beat him up."
Wu Meng on the other side sneered, "You kid, are you eating meat? You're so excited, damn, howling."
Baru scratched his head and asked, "You are allowed to eat meat every meal?"
"Take it easy. You've been hungry for a year. Don't overeat. Bring me the battle plan tomorrow."
"What kind of battle plan do you need?" Baru threw away his cigarette in frustration. "How can you call it a battle if you can plan? Brother Meng, I'm a married man now, and my personal time is precious. If you want that crap, go find someone else to fight, and I'll go home and hug my wife."
"You want to hug my wife? I haven't been home for days. Are you blind? Wolf boy, I'm telling you, if you dare to mess with me when you want a woman during the war, I'll shoot you dead."
"Brother Meng, I will definitely fight hard. If you really can't hold it in any longer, just go home. The sky won't fall in one night. It's really unlucky for Sister Zhenzhen to be with a rough guy like you."
The reckless subordinate stabbed Wu Meng in the heart.
"Get out of here—"
After Wu Meng finished speaking, he hung up the phone.
Baru smiled angrily and flipped through his phone, intending to call Zhan Peng and ask him to return to northern Myanmar and keep an eye on the situation.
Suddenly, there was a sound of broken dishes inside, followed by Nanxi's scream. The man's face changed and he ran inside.
