Chapter 307: Return of an Old Friend (2/2)

He naturally handed the second cup of tea to Jiang Si who was sitting opposite him.

"Si Si, this is yours, be careful it's hot."

He called the word "Si Si" in an especially gentle manner.

This was clearly her name, and her family often called her that. But when he pronounced it, Jiang Si's brows furrowed uncontrollably.

In her dictionary, there is no such thing as can or cannot.

Since she felt uncomfortable, she said it directly.

"Thank you." Jiang Si took the teacup and put it back on the table. "But you should still call me Jiang Si."

"Tuo."

Chi Heng didn't seem surprised at all, and his voice was still as clear as before.

Sensing that the atmosphere was a little off, Third Uncle took a sip of tea and changed the subject.

"Shi An, when did you come back?"

He remembered that his family seemed to have gone to Gaul. In the first few years after they left, they would send letters back every time there was a festival.

Later, the situation in the country became more tense, and the two families gradually lost contact.

Chi Heng put the teapot down and placed his hands neatly back on his knees.

"Third Uncle, I just returned to Beijing a few days ago."

"A few days ago?"

Third Uncle thought of his old friend and couldn't help but feel a little touched. "What about your grandparents? Did they come back together this time?"

"No."

Speaking of his family, Chi Heng's eyes darkened. "Grandpa and grandma are old and have not been in good health over the years. My family is worried about them, so they stay with them to take care of them."

"As for my father, he passed away eight years ago due to illness. This time I returned home alone."

Third Uncle had not expected this to happen and comforted him with a few words.

Then he said, "So, when you come back this time, are you planning to stay in the country for a long time?"

"I'm back for work this time," Chi Heng said. "I'll probably be here for about two years. The exact duration depends on the arrangements from above."

So that's how it is.

Third Uncle didn't ask any more questions. Seeing that the food was almost ready, he stood up and greeted them.

"Let's eat first, and then we can chat after we finish eating."

Since Jiang Si was having dinner here today, Uncle Zhong cooked mostly her favorite Shanghainese dishes.

The rich sauce looks appetizing.

"Come on, Shi An, try this scallion-fried pork ribs and see if it still tastes like it did when you were a kid."

As Third Uncle said this, he signaled him with his eyes to eat more.

"Thank you, Third Uncle." Chi Heng nodded and took a little bit of each dish.

He didn't say much at the dinner table and just ate quietly the whole time.

This habit is similar to Jiang Si's.

She doesn't like to talk while eating either.

"Why are you eating so little?" Third Uncle put down his chopsticks when he saw that he had only eaten one bowl of rice. "Is today's meal not to your liking?"

"No, the food is ready to eat."

"Then why are you..." eating so little.

Seeing this, Chi Heng explained a few words, "I was too busy with work in the past few years and my diet was not regular, so my stomach was damaged."

"The doctor told me to pay attention to my diet and try to eat small and frequent meals."

After a pause, he smiled and said, "The food is really delicious. I haven't eaten such authentic Shanghai cuisine for a long time."

After all, he was an old friend's child, and Uncle San felt even worse after hearing this.

"No matter how busy you are at work, you must remember to eat on time. You must pay more attention to this and take good care of your body."

"Yes, I understand. Thank you, Third Uncle." Chi Heng said with a learned expression.
