"Xiao Tang, I remember you like spicy food. Try this stir-fried chicken with green peppers and see if it suits your taste." Aunt Liu picked up a large piece of chicken with her chopsticks and placed it in the bowl in front of Su Wantang.
"Thank you, Aunt Liu," Su Wantang said with a light laugh.
Since her mother passed away, she has never had a meal as happy as she does now.
She picked up her chopsticks, took a bite, and her eyes lit up. "Mmm, it's delicious! Aunt Liu, your cooking is getting better and better!"
"You have such a sweet tongue," Aunt Liu said with a gentle smile.
The three of them sat together for a meal, creating a warm and pleasant atmosphere.
After the meal, Aunt Liu got up to clear the dishes, and Su Wantang walked towards the kitchen. "Aunt Liu, let me help."
"You're a guest, you don't need to do any work, I'll take care of these," Aunt Liu said with a gentle smile.
Su Wantang always saw her mother's shadow in Aunt Liu.
If my parents were still alive, they would definitely be very loving and happy.
My mother will also live a peaceful and serene life like Aunt Liu does now.
"It's just a few bowls, it's alright." Su Wantang chuckled as she walked to Aunt Liu's side, picked up a bowl, and started washing it under the tap.
"Our Xiaotang has really grown up; she can even wash dishes now," Aunt Liu said with some emotion. "But if your mother were alive and could see you washing dishes, I wonder if she would be gratified or heartbroken."
After all, Xiaotang's mother used to cherish this child very much, pampering her like a rich young lady from a young age.
I couldn't bear to let her suffer even a little bit.
“What’s the big deal? My parents are gone now, I have to stand on my own two feet. If I’m too delicate, it will be hard to survive in this world,” Su Wantang said.
"You're right, it's not good for girls to be too delicate." Aunt Liu sighed. "But you're very beautiful now. You look almost exactly like your mother when she was young, except you're prettier and younger than your mother."
Su Wantang chuckled, and the two chatted and laughed as they finished washing the dishes.
“Aunt Liu, I see you’ve lost some weight recently,” Su Wantang said. “You and Uncle have had a tough time these past few years. It’s better for you to be safe and sound than anything else.”
"Yes," Aunt Liu sighed. "What happened to your parents back then...it was such a pity. If they were still alive, you would be a little girl growing up with their love. How happy you would be."
"But you should dress more modestly in the future. Capitalism is being cracked down on now. If people find out you're a capitalist's daughter, it'll get you into big trouble," Aunt Liu said in a low voice.
"Mmm." Su Wantang nodded. "I plan to go with the army in a few days. Even if they find out I'm a capitalist's daughter, they can't do anything to me once I go with the army."
"That's good. I'm relieved to have a way out." Aunt Liu nodded and smiled with relief. "I've met your boyfriend, Xiao Lu, before. He's a very responsible person, and he treats you very well. I believe that if you two get together, he will treat you well." Aunt Liu held Su Wantang's hand and said.
“Hmm.” Su Wantang thought of Aunt Liu being reported in her previous life and said, “Yesterday I heard everyone say that the neighborhood director is going to investigate more strictly now, and everyone has to throw away some old things that are no longer suitable, so as not to be found fault with by others.”
"I remember you used to like reading old poems and essays from the Republican era. It's best to put those things away to avoid any problems being found out."
"I used to love watching them, but I've lost them all," Aunt Liu sighed. "Although I'm reluctant to part with them, I have no choice but to throw them away for safety reasons."
Lost?
But in my past life, the red armband was clearly found at Aunt Liu's house. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
