Su Wantang sat opposite him, quietly watching him.
The man's profile, glowing red from the charcoal fire, was focused and earnest, making her even more captivated by him than when he was on the awards stage.
"What are you looking at?" Lu Linchuan noticed her gaze, looked up, and smiled in his dark eyes.
"Because you're good-looking." Su Wantang laughed, speaking with a straight face.
Lu Linchuan's ears burned at her blunt words. He coughed softly and handed her a skewer of golden-brown grilled meat: "Try it."
The meat's outer skin was crispy and fragrant, while the inside was tender and juicy. Su Wantang squinted her eyes in satisfaction.
“Wife,” Lu Linchuan’s voice suddenly became low and solemn, “Do you know, before I married you, my life consisted of training, missions, eating, and sleeping. Home was just a place for me to sleep.”
He looked at her, his gaze as deep as the sea.
"But after you came, everything changed. This home felt warm and welcoming, and I had someone to care about. I started to feel that every safe return was a blessing. I can stand on this stage today because of you. Su Wantang, you have made my life better and better."
This heartfelt confession struck Su Wantang's heart more deeply than any sweet words.
Her eyes welled up with tears. She put down the meat skewers in her hand, stood up, walked to his side, and took the initiative to wrap her arms around his neck.
Lu Linchuan pulled her into his arms, lowered his head, and kissed her deeply in the quiet courtyard, in the flickering firelight.
It's late at night.
After Lu Linchuan helped Su Wantang finish washing up, he carried her to the bed and carefully placed a soft pillow behind her back.
"Sleep." He lay down beside her, gently pulling her into his arms, his large hand resting on her swollen belly, feeling the pulse of life within.
Su Wantang rested her head on his strong arm, inhaling his fresh and pleasant scent, her heart filled with immense happiness. She couldn't help but turn over to face him and kiss his lips.
The man's body tensed instantly, and his breathing became heavy.
In just a moment, he abruptly turned his head away, his forehead pressed against hers, his voice terribly hoarse.
"Stop fooling around, be good."
"If you keep making a fuss, I'm going to take a cold shower."
Hearing his heavy breathing as he suppressed his desire, Su Wantang not only didn't obey, but felt a soft and sweet feeling in her heart.
Emboldened by her newfound status as a "key protected individual," she extended her fingertip and gently drew circles on his firm chest.
"Go ahead and go for it, it'll cool you off in the heat." Her voice carried a hint of barely perceptible coquettishness and provocation. "Anyway... you wouldn't really do anything to me."
That soft sentence, like a feather, precisely tickled Lu Linchuan's taut nerves.
His muscles tensed even more instantly, his Adam's apple bobbed, and his dark eyes churned with a terrifying heat in the dim light.
That little devil!
Lu Linchuan took a deep breath and said through gritted teeth, "Su Wantang, if you start another fire, you'll face the consequences."
Seeing his restrained expression, wanting to eat but not daring to, Su Wantang finally couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Her laughter was crisp and clear, as if shattering the ambiguous atmosphere that filled the room.
Lu Linchuan was both angry and helpless. Looking at her mischievous, smiling face, the anger in his heart was replaced by a softer, more tender emotion. He pinched the tip of her nose, his gesture full of affection. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
