Chapter 136 He Was Terribly Wrong (2/2)

He remembered the book that Liu Fen had burned with his own hands, the resolute back of her as she left with her daughter, and her words, "My biggest regret is that I was blind to marry you five years ago."

It turns out, she wasn't the only one who was blind.

He is the one who is completely blind, deaf, and stupid.

"Enough." He closed his eyes, and when he opened them again, the madness in them had faded, leaving only a chilling calm.

Without saying a word, he turned and went into the bedroom, dragged out the old rattan trunk that belonged to Granny Li, and stuffed her clothes into it one by one.

"What are you doing! Liu Jianjun! Are you crazy! You want to kick me out? I'm your own mother! Aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning?!" Granny Li finally panicked and rushed forward to try to snatch the box.

Liu Jianjun shoved her hand away with such force that she stumbled and crashed into the wall. He expressionlessly packed his suitcase, then carried it to Granny Li and grabbed her arm like he was dragging a dead dog.

“You’re right, I am your son. So, I won’t hit you or scold you.” His voice was soft, but it terrified Granny Li more than any shout. “I’ll only do one thing—take you home.”

"I won't leave! This is my home! My son's home is my home!" Granny Li screamed, struggling with her hands and feet.

The night in the family compound was not quiet; her wailing soon attracted the attention of the neighbors who peeked out.

Liu Jianjun acted as if he hadn't heard her, and forcibly dragged her into the yard. In front of everyone, he slammed the wicker trunk heavily to the ground, then released her, looked at the limp Li Pozi, and announced, word by word, in a voice clear enough for half the residential compound to hear:

“From today onwards, I, Liu Jianjun, and my mother, Li Xiuying, will sever all financial ties. I will not give her a single penny. Tomorrow morning, I will buy her a train ticket and personally take her back to her hometown. After that, whether she lives or dies is none of my concern.”

After saying that, he didn't even look at the shocked gazes of the people around him or the face of Granny Li, which had turned from astonishment to resentment. He turned around and slammed the courtyard gate shut.

He leaned against the cold door, his body slowly sliding down. Outside, his mother's vicious curses and the neighbors' whispers filled the air. Inside, there was a deathly silence and a junkyard-like mess.

He looked around at the home he had destroyed with his own hands; it was empty and devoid of any human presence. The air seemed to still carry the faint scent of soap sachets from Liu Fen and the sweet, milky smell of his daughter.

He raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face. The crisp sound echoed in the silent room, and his cheek burned with pain, but it was nothing compared to the pain in his heart.

He was wrong, terribly wrong.

He didn't lose his home; he drove away the only person who could give him a home.

In the darkness, he curled up on the cold floor like a lost child, a suppressed, bloody sob escaping his throat.
