Chapter 137 Begging Her to Come Back (2/2)

This action, like a needle, pierced Liu Jianjun's heart. He awkwardly looked away, then at Liu Fen, his voice pleading, "Fen, come home with me. I was wrong, I really know I was wrong. I sent Mom back to her hometown, and she'll never come to our house again. I... I promise I'll treat you and Nannan well from now on. I'll give you all my salary; you can buy whatever you want. If you want to study, I'll buy you the best books... Let's remarry, okay?"

He thought that his humble confession would at least move her slightly.

However, Liu Fen listened quietly, her face expressionless. Only after he finished speaking did she gently shake her head.

"Liu Jianjun, it's too late."

She raised her hand, not to hit him, but to reach into her pocket. She took out a coin, a brand new dime, gleaming in the sunlight.

"Do you know what this is?" She looked at him, her eyes clear and sharp. "This is what I gave to my neighbor, Grandpa Zhang, when I took his blood pressure yesterday. This is money I earned myself. It's only a dime, but it's a million times cleaner than your fifty-five yuan salary."

She paused, a cold laugh creeping into her voice: "You want me to go home with you? Go home to which home? The home where I ate rotten food for five years, worked like a beast of burden for five years, and in the end, you even burned the book I wanted to read?"

Liu Jianjun's face turned deathly pale instantly.

"No...no, Fen, that's all in the past..."

“The past?” Liu Fen interrupted him, taking a step forward. Her frail body burst forth with astonishing strength. “Liu Jianjun, I’m not waiting for you to turn back. I’m waiting for you to see clearly that you yourself burned the road home to ashes.”

Her words were like a scalded knife, stabbing precisely into his most painful wound.

“You don’t regret hurting me; you regret losing that free nanny and that home that your mother emptied but I managed to keep going. You think you kicked me out, but actually, it was me who walked out of your cage.”

After she finished speaking, she didn't look at him again, turned around, picked up her daughter, and said softly, "Darling, let's go home."

"Liu Fen!" Liu Jianjun cried out desperately behind her, and impulsively stepped forward to grab her hand.

Before he could even make contact, an elderly doctor in a white coat came out, frowned, and shouted, "Hey! What are you doing! This is a clinic, no loud noises allowed! Nurse Liu, is this your family member? If you have something to say, go home and talk to them. Don't disturb our work!"

“Director, he’s not my family member.” Liu Fen, holding her daughter, said to the old doctor without turning her head, her voice clear and firm, “He’s just a stranger… asking for directions.”

After saying that, she picked up her daughter and walked straight into the backyard of the clinic, where the small house they rented was located. The door creaked open and then slammed shut, completely separating the two worlds.

Liu Jianjun stood frozen in place, like a weathered stone statue.

"stranger"……

The pointing and whispering of patients and their families around him felt like countless needles pricking him. He stared at the tightly closed wooden door, the sound stinging his eyes. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
