"Didn't you ever think about resisting?" Su Wantang's eyes were filled with complex emotions.
“I tried to resist before, but I was too weak. Even if I resisted, it would only result in more severe abuse… Since my mother passed away, no one in this world loves me anymore.” Wei Juan choked up, tears streaming down her face.
"What else can I do but accept reality?"
Su Wantang looked at her with a complicated expression, "How old are you this year?"
“I’m 18,” Wei Juan said.
“Then you can choose to go to university and leave this family.” Su Wantang said softly, and she reached out and held Wei Juan’s shoulder. “After you graduate from university and have a decent job, you can support yourself and you will never have to live a life of dependence on others and having to be subservient to them again.”
Wei Juan raised her face, looking at the woman in front of her with some confusion.
No one had ever said these words to her before.
Wei Juan bit her lip, "But my dad told me before that it's useless for girls to go to school, and that I should just find someone to marry as soon as possible..."
"His words are complete rubbish!" Su Wantang sneered. "If you get married, then you'll be fulfilling his wish. Given their current attitude towards you, do you think they'll arrange a good marriage for you? Your marriage will be entirely controlled by them, and once you're married, your life will be set in stone."
"You can change all of this," Su Wantang said gently, looking at her with unwavering eyes.
In an instant, Wei Juan felt as if a dark cloud had been gently parted by a large hand, and she seemed to see the sun.
"Then I will study hard and read books from now on. I will not listen to my father and get married." Wei Juan looked at Su Wantang with tears in her eyes, but her eyes were exceptionally clear and bright.
"Mmm." Su Wantang smiled with relief. "So, are you going home?"
"Pretty sister, can I come with you?" Wei Juan tightly gripped Su Wantang's fair arm with her two small hands, looking at Su Wantang earnestly. "I don't want to go back to that cold home... Can you take me to your house for a while? Even just for a little while?"
Wei Juan pleaded pitifully.
Seeing Wei Juan like this, Su Wantang thought of herself when she lost her parents and was helpless as a child, and her heart softened a little.
"Okay, come with me."
...
Su Wantang brought Wei Juan to her home.
Su Wantang took a hot shower in the villa's bathroom and then changed into clean clothes.
"Would you like to come to my house for a hot shower?" Su Wantang asked the doctor, handing Wei Juan a brand-new light pink dress.
Wei Juan shook her head, "I'm too clumsy to use it..."
"It's okay, I'll help you," Su Wantang said with a light laugh.
She adjusted the showerhead temperature in the bathroom, and half an hour later, Wei Juan changed her clothes and came out of the bathroom.
"Sister, what's your name? My name is Wei Juan." The girl, wearing a light pink dress, looked at Su Wantang with clear and bright eyes.
"Su Wantang." Su Wantang sat facing her on the sofa. She seemed to remember something. "You also have the surname Wei. Do you know someone named Wei Zhentian?"
Maybe this girl is related to Wei Zhentian?
After all, there aren't many people with the surname Wei in Shanghai. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
