Su Wantang tilted her head back, gazing at the man's handsome, angular face. Now, she was being held in his arms in a domineering manner. Her nose was filled with the fresh scent of his soap and his powerful masculine aura, which blocked out most of the body odor.
Being protected so firmly by him, Su Wantang felt a warm and secure feeling in her heart.
It was as if no matter what happened, as long as he was there, he would stay by her side and protect her.
This feeling made her feel at ease.
Before long, the iron gate of the ticket gate was pulled open with a "whoosh," and the crowd surged toward the narrow entrance like a floodgate being opened.
"Tickets are being checked! Don't push! Line up!" the staff shouted hoarsely, but to little avail.
Lu Linchuan's face darkened.
He carried two heavy suitcases in one hand and held Su Wantang firmly in front of him with the other, protecting her completely. His body was like a wall, shielding her from any impact.
"Stay close to me."
His voice was deep, yet full of tenderness.
In the crowded scene, a middle-aged man carrying a sack was suddenly shoved from behind, staggering and about to collide with Su Wantang.
Su Wantang's heart tightened, and she instinctively wanted to dodge.
Before she could make a move, Lu Linchuan had already reacted. His free hand shot out with lightning speed, gently lifting and pushing the man's sack.
The force was used with great skill.
Instead of crashing into him, the man used the force to steady himself and even took two steps forward, squeezing into a gap.
He glanced back, met Lu Linchuan's cold gaze, shrank back, didn't dare to utter a sound, and buried his head to squeeze forward.
He defused a minor crisis without making a sound.
Su Wantang looked up at the man's profile, her heart beating a little fast.
This is her man.
No matter how chaotic the situation, he could always provide her with the safest haven.
The ticket checking process was long and tedious.
Su Wantang practically clung to Lu Linchuan to get through the journey. Only when she finally stepped onto the platform and breathed in the cool air carrying the smell of coal ash did she feel alive again.
They wanted to sit in sleeper berths.
In those days, being able to buy two sleeper tickets, especially lower berths that were next to each other, was enough to prove how much effort Lu Linchuan had put in.
The carriages were equally crowded, with people standing in the aisles.
When we found their berth, an elderly couple, who looked to be in their forties or fifties, were already sitting there, chatting animatedly while eating sunflower seeds, spitting the shells all over the floor.
Upon seeing Lu Linchuan and Su Wantang arrive, one of the older women with slanted eyes was sitting on the sleeper berth, cracking sunflower seeds.
"Comrade, please move aside, this is our bunk." Lu Linchuan's voice was flat, revealing no emotion.
"Oh dear, we haven't even started driving yet. What's wrong with young people standing for a while? We're old and our legs aren't good, can't we sit for a while?" The old woman with slanted eyes rolled her eyes and spoke in a sarcastic tone.
The old man chimed in, "That's right, young people should know how to respect the elderly and care for the young."
"Young man, judging from your uniform... you must be a soldier! Soldiers should respect the elderly and care for the young, and give up their seats for us old folks," the old woman said matter-of-factly.
Su Wantang frowned and sneered, "Are you two playing moral blackmail here? Respect the elderly and care for the young? That's for respecting morally upright elderly people, not for shameless old geezers like you."
"Hey! How dare you talk to us like that?! How can you, at such a young age, insult us?!" (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
