"Yes, she said her name was Wei Juan, and she was carrying a big bundle."
"Wei Juan!" Su Wantang exclaimed excitedly, "Is it really her?"
The young soldier nodded: "It's over there at the gate. Shall I take you there?"
"Okay, okay!" Su Wantang quickly followed the young soldier toward the gate.
From afar, Su Wantang saw a familiar, thin figure standing at the gate with a large bundle on her back—it was Wei Juan!
"Wei Juan!" Su Wantang exclaimed excitedly.
Wei Juan turned around when she heard the voice, and her eyes instantly welled up with tears when she saw Su Wantang: "Wantang!"
The two embraced tightly, both choking back tears.
"You've lost a lot of weight recently. How's your injury? Is it getting better?" Su Wantang held Wei Juan's hand and looked her over carefully.
Wei Juan smiled and said, "My injuries have completely healed! I owe you so much for what happened back then."
"Come home with me. The sun is too strong here. Let's talk as we walk." Su Wantang pulled Wei Juan towards the family compound.
The guards watched the two figures as they walked away.
Back home, Wei Juan put down her bag and looked around curiously: "Wow, your house is so beautiful! It's much better than I imagined."
"Hmm." Su Wantang poured Wei Juan a glass of water. "How have you been lately?"
“I’m doing fine.” Wei Juan sat on the sofa. “I applied to a university in the South Province, so we can see each other more often then.”
She looked at Su Wantang gratefully, "I owe all of this to you."
As she spoke, Wei Juan took an envelope out of her bundle and handed it to Su Wantang, "There's three hundred yuan in here. I'll return part of it to you first, sister, please take it."
Su Wantang looked at her in surprise, "Where did you get all this money?"
"This is the bonus the city government gave me for getting into university," Wei Juan said, her eyes sparkling. "I heard that our school also has bursaries and scholarships. If you study hard, you can get a scholarship every year!"
"I'll work part-time while I'm in college and try my best to pay you back all the money I owe you!"
“You don’t need to go through all that trouble. I’m not in a hurry to get it back. You can pay me back slowly,” Su Wantang said.
"No, I want to pay you back with interest!" Wei Juan stuffed the money into Su Wantang's palm. "You're pregnant now, it's not easy for you either, and there will be many more places where you'll need money in the future."
"Besides, I feel uncomfortable owing you money, so I'm thinking of paying it back as soon as possible so I can feel more at ease."
"Okay, but don't overwork yourself," Su Wantang said with a light laugh. "Wait for me a moment, I'll cut you a plate of fruit."
"No need," Wei Juan quickly stood up to stop her—
"Don't be so polite with me," Su Wantang said, walking towards the kitchen.
The island is rich in resources, including abundant fruit.
There are some fresh mangoes and peaches in the refrigerator.
Su Wantang peeled the mango and cut it into small yellow cubes. She also peeled the peach and cut it into small pieces, placing them on a plate. She then took the plate out and said, "Xiao Juan, try it and see if it's good."
Wei Juan swallowed hard. "Then I won't be polite."
The two sat on the sofa, facing each other, eating fruit.
"So sweet!" Wei Juan's eyes lit up after taking a bite.
"If you like it, then eat more." Su Wantang chuckled.
"Sister, how have you been lately? Have you been feeling unwell?" Wei Juan asked. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
