Chapter 63 Her Mother (2/4)

The two walked toward Zheng Feng's office.

To their surprise, when they arrived at the destination, they found it empty.

The guards standing at the door of Commander Zheng's office stopped them with serious expressions.

"Comrades, who are you looking for?"

"We need to see Commander Zheng; we have something to discuss."

The guard looked them up and down and politely declined.

"Unfortunately, Brigade Commander Zheng led his team out early this morning, and their return date is uncertain. Please come back another day."

The return date is undetermined.

Wei Juan looked dejected.

Su Wantang gently comforted Wei Juan, holding her hand, "It's alright, let's go back first."

On the way back, Wei Juan looked like a wilted eggplant, completely listless.

"Don't worry, if we can't meet this time, there will be another time." She squeezed Wei Juan's cold hand tightly and said softly, "Don't be discouraged."

"If you stay on the island longer, you'll eventually see him."

Su Wantang's words gave Wei Juan a sense of peace.

Wei Juan nodded, forcing a smile, "Mm!"

Su Wantang noticed that Wei Juan was in a bad mood, so she suggested, "Why don't we go to the beach and collect some seashells?"

"There are many beautiful seashells on the beach. They are very pretty and can be collected and made into wind chimes."

Wei Juan's attention was immediately drawn, "Okay."

The two walked towards the sea. The morning light shone on the sea, making it sparkle, and several seagulls circled low overhead.

"Wow, the scenery is so beautiful!" Wei Juan took a deep breath of the sea breeze. "No wonder you're so happy living here."

“Yes, the scenery by the sea is beautiful, and the ocean can heal everything,” Su Wantang said with a smile as she carefully stepped onto the rocks.

The waves gently lapped against the beach, churning up white foam before slowly receding, leaving a damp trail.

Wei Juan took off her shoes and socks, stepping barefoot onto the fine sand. The cool touch from her feet eased her tense nerves slightly. Following Su Wantang's example, she carefully avoided the sharp rocks, her eyes searching the beach.

"Look at this!" Su Wantang suddenly squatted down and picked up a palm-sized scallop from a pile of pebbles smoothed by the sea. The shell was a light orange-pink with rings of white lines, and it gleamed with a warm luster in the morning light.

Wei Juan leaned closer, her eyes lighting up, "So beautiful!"

"Here you go." Su Wantang placed the seashell in her hand.

The edges of the shell were a bit rough, but it felt very solid to the touch. Holding it, Wei Juan felt that the disappointment she had felt earlier from not finding it at all had been somewhat lessened by this beautiful shell.

"I want to find the best-looking one too!" Wei Juan's interest was completely piqued. She rolled up her trousers and, like a child on a treasure hunt, plunged into the vast beach.

"Sister, look! Doesn't this look like a little seashell?"

"Wow! This one is colorful!"

"This looks really strange, like a small pagoda."

Wei Juan's exclamations rang out from time to time. She was carrying shoes in one hand and quickly filled her other hand with all kinds of seashells. Her face was beaming with an undisguised smile, and the gloom had long been blown away by the sea breeze.

Su Wantang followed behind her, a smile playing on her lips, occasionally bending down to pick up one or two unusual ones. Seeing that Wei Juan was carrying a large pile and had difficulty moving around, she suggested, "Let's put the shells on this big rock first, and then we can get them all together later."

The two piled their "spoils" on a flat, sun-warmed rock, creating a colorful little heap that looked quite appealing.
