Chapter 64 Making it up to her (4/4)

"If you hadn't married so hastily, your mother wouldn't have died so tragically, and you wouldn't have had such a miserable childhood..."

Zheng Feng looked at the girl in front of him with teary eyes. She was so thin, almost skin and bones, and looked malnourished.

They must have suffered a lot over the years.

“Dad, this isn’t your fault,” Wei Juan comforted him. “You were just loyal to the country and to your beliefs. You did nothing wrong. It’s just fate that you and Mom were destined to be apart.”

"Good boy... Daddy will make it up to you."

"Let's go back," Zheng Feng said, patting Wei Juan on the shoulder.

"Mm." Wei Juan nodded.

After Zheng Feng took Wei Juan away from the hospital, they got into a military green jeep and arrived at the largest supply and marketing cooperative in the southern province.

The South Province Supply and Marketing Cooperative truly lives up to its reputation as the largest in the province, standing a full three stories high. The first floor sells daily necessities, sugar, wine, and groceries; the second floor sells fabrics and clothing; and the third floor sells "big-ticket items" such as watches, radios, and bicycles.

In those days, most of the service staff at the supply and marketing cooperatives were rather arrogant, especially those in charge of the "precious" goods section, who looked down on people with their chins.

Zheng Feng led Wei Juan directly up to the second floor.

The clothing section on the second floor was filled with rows of brand-new ready-made garments, ranging from simple work clothes to trendy "Dacron" shirts and dresses. The air was filled with the mixed scent of new fabric and mothballs.

Wei Juan hesitated, her clothes faded from washing, standing out starkly against the vibrant colors. She simply watched from afar, not daring to approach.

"Go take a look, take whatever you like." Zheng Feng's voice sounded behind her, steady but carrying an air of unyielding authority.

A waitress in a floral shirt glanced at them, and seeing Wei Juan in her old clothes, she looked at her with a hint of disdain. She leaned against the counter, lazily cracking sunflower seeds.

Wei Juan's fingers gently brushed against a sky-blue dress. The fabric was smooth and cool, a texture she had never experienced before.

Zheng Feng said, "Do you like this one?"

Wei Juan gave a soft "hmm," then quickly shook her head, "Too expensive."

Zheng Feng said directly to the waiter, "Wrap this one up."

The waitress paused, looking Zheng Feng up and down. He was in military uniform, the stars on his epaulets gleaming under the lights, exuding an imposing aura. She dared not delay any longer and quickly straightened up, "Okay, okay."

Wei Juan looked at the dress that was about to be wrapped up, feeling both happy and uneasy. Suddenly remembering something, she tugged at Zheng Feng's sleeve, "Dad, Sister Wantang has fair skin, she'll definitely look better in this color than me."

Zheng Feng's gaze softened as he said to the clerk who had already taken the dress and was about to issue the ticket, "Wait a moment."

He walked to another row of clothes racks, took down a similar style but pale yellow dress, and placed it on the counter next to the sky blue one.

"I'll take both of them. They're the same size."

Comrade Su helped their whole family and is their great benefactor. They should be properly thanked.

The waiter's eyes widened, and he quickly ran to issue the invoice, his attitude becoming so enthusiastic that it was as if he were a completely different person.

"Dad, we don't need to buy two..." Wei Juan protested softly.

Zheng Feng said, "My daughter will definitely look good in it."

With that beginning, things quickly spiraled out of control.

Zheng Feng seemed determined to make up for all the wrongs he had owed Wei Juan over the past decade. (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
