The next morning, Qin Tian knocked on the door.
"Wantang, are you ready? I'll take you to see my father and ask him about what happened back then."
At this moment, Su Wantang had already straightened her clothes, and Lu Linchuan also got up.
"Ready?" Su Wantang pushed open the door.
The three of them walked out of the guesthouse together, where Qin Tian had already prepared a dilapidated jeep at the door.
"It's a bit far, it'll take an hour or so to drive there." Qin Tian started the car, the engine making a sputtering sound.
The car bumped along the mountain road, flanked by rolling mountains, with only a few houses occasionally in sight. Su Wantang nervously gripped Lu Linchuan's hand, her heart pounding.
We'll see the answer soon.
"Don't worry," Lu Linchuan said softly, holding Su Wantang's hand. "I'm here with you."
"Hmm." Seeing Lu Linchuan, Su Wantang finally felt a little relieved.
An hour later, the car stopped in a small village. The houses were low and dilapidated, and chickens and ducks wandered freely on the road. Qin got out of the car and knocked on the door of one of the houses.
"Dad, Dad, are you home?"
The neighbor next door opened the door, and a thin, middle-aged woman inside shook her head: "He went out early this morning, probably to gamble in town again."
Qin Tian's face darkened, and he turned to Su Wantang, saying, "Let's go to town to find him."
The car drove for another twenty minutes and stopped in front of a simple bungalow in town. A group of people had gathered at the door, and arguing could be heard coming from inside.
"Where's the money? You said you'd pay me back today!"
"Give me a few more days, and I'll definitely pay you back!"
"A few days? You've already dragged this out for half a month!"
Qin Tian frowned and strode into the house. Su Wantang and Lu Linchuan followed closely behind.
The room was filled with smoke, and several broken tables were arranged in a circle. A man in his fifties knelt on the ground, facing several menacing creditors.
"Dad!" Qin Tian rushed over.
The man looked up, his face covered in sweat and fear: "Xiao Tian? What are you doing here?"
Su Wantang sized up the man named Qin Dazhi. He was short, dark-skinned, and his eyes darted around. Most importantly, he didn't look like Qin Tian at all.
Su Wantang's suspicions deepened.
"How much do you owe?" Qin Tian asked.
“Three hundred… no, five hundred.” Qin Dazhi swallowed hard.
The leader of the creditors said with a grim face, "Since someone who can pay back the money has come, then it's simple. Either pay up now, or we'll chop off one of his hands!"
Su Wantang's heart skipped a beat, and she subconsciously hid behind Lu Linchuan.
Qin Tian's face was extremely ugly. Losing face like this in front of Su Wantang made him wish he could find a crack in the ground to crawl into.
"I'm sorry, you must have found this amusing," he said, turning to Su Wantang.
Su Wantang shook her head: "It's okay."
The more she looked, the more something seemed off. Qin Dazhi and Qin Tian were completely different in appearance and personality. One was cowardly and greedy, the other resilient and reliable.
“Qin Dazhi,” Su Wantang suddenly spoke, her voice clear.
Everyone turned to look at her.
"I have a question for you. When your wife gave birth, were the babies switched?"
Qin Dazhi's face turned deathly pale instantly, his eyes darting around in a panic: "You... what did you say? I don't understand."
Su Wantang was even more convinced. That guilty expression was clearly the look of someone who had done something wrong!
"What are you so guilty about?" she pressed, "I suspect you switched the children back then. Qin Tian isn't your biological son at all!"
