He carefully put the telegram away and pushed open the door to his house.
In the living room, Su Wantang was sitting on the sofa, her lower abdomen already slightly protruding.
She hasn't had much of an appetite lately, and her face has become quite thin, which makes Lu Linchuan feel a pang of heartache.
He walked over quietly and gently wrapped his arms around her from behind.
"You're back?" Su Wantang felt the familiar embrace and leaned back in relaxation.
"Hmm." Lu Linchuan rested his chin on the top of her head, his voice gentle, "How are you feeling today? Still feeling unwell?"
"Much better," she said with a hint of coquettishness.
Lu Linchuan chuckled, bent down, and picked her up horizontally.
"Ah!" Su Wantang exclaimed, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck.
"What are you doing? Your uncle is still at home."
"He went to work." Lu Linchuan carried her to the bedroom, his movements steady without the slightest sway. "The doctor said you need to rest more, but you just won't listen."
He gently placed her on the bed and pulled the blanket over her.
"I stewed some rock sugar pears for you to soothe your throat," he said, turning to the kitchen to fetch a thermos.
Upon opening the lid, a sweet and refreshing aroma wafts out.
He scooped up a spoonful, blew on it, and then brought it to her lips.
Su Wantang obediently opened her mouth and drank it. The warm, sweet liquid slid down her throat, instantly making her feel much better.
When did you cook it?
Before leaving home in the morning.
Su Wantang felt a warmth in her heart. This man was always like this, considering everything for her perfectly.
She looked at his profile as he intently blew on her sugar water to cool it down; his features were well-defined, and he looked handsome and reliable.
"Lu Linchuan," she called softly.
"Um?"
"It's so good to have you here."
Lu Linchuan paused in his feeding, looked up, and met her eyes, which were full of dependence and love. His heart warmed.
As evening approached, the aroma of food wafted from the kitchen.
In the afternoon, Lu Linchuan went to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy fresh pork belly and ribs. He cooked braised pork and winter melon and rib soup himself, both of which Su Wantang loves to eat.
Qin Tian was away at work and hadn't returned yet. Only Lu Linchuan and his wife, Li Xiumei and her son were at the dinner table.
The atmosphere was somewhat somber.
Li Xiumei's face was grim as she rummaged through her bowl with her chopsticks, making a jarring sound. She stared at the plate of bright red, fragrant braised pork on the table, her eyes practically overflowing with displeasure.
The meat, rice, and noodles were all bought by Lu Linchuan with money and ration coupons, but in her eyes, it became that the couple was skimming money off her family.
Lu Linchuan ignored her, picked up a piece of stewed pork belly that was cooked until tender, carefully removed the fat, leaving only the lean meat, and put it into Su Wantang's bowl.
"Eat more. You're eating for one person now, but you're supplementing for two."
Su Wantang's eyes crinkled as she was about to pick up the piece of meat when a dark shadow flashed by. Before her chopsticks could even touch it, the meat in her bowl was gone.
The atmosphere at the table froze instantly.
Xiao Feng was stuffing the whole piece of meat into his mouth, his cheeks bulging, and he gave Su Wantang a defiant look, "This is my family's meat! I'm not giving it to you!"
Su Wantang froze in mid-air.
Lu Linchuan's face instantly turned cold, his gaze sharp as a knife as he shot towards Xiao Feng.
"Xiao Feng!"
A loud shout suddenly rang out; it was Qin Tian, who had just entered the room. He happened to see this scene and was furious. He strode over to the table and grabbed Xiao Feng by the ear.
