“Dr. Su…” she choked up, a thousand words stuck in her throat, and in the end, they all turned into the simplest promise, “I…I will definitely study hard.”
Su Wantang held her shoulders, looked into her eyes, and said solemnly, word by word, "Sister-in-law Liu Fen, remember, knowledge is a knife in your hand. On ordinary days, it is a shield to protect you and your daughter; but when someone tries to take away your livelihood, it becomes your sharpest weapon."
These words, though spoken with extreme force, struck like a thunderbolt, shattering the last vestiges of confusion in Liu Fen's heart.
She abruptly raised her head, the last trace of timidity in her eyes replaced by determination. She nodded vigorously, clutching the book tightly to her chest, as if holding onto another life.
After seeing Liu Fen off, Su Wantang couldn't calm down for a long time. She was gratified by Liu Fen's change, but also worried about her future. Granny Li and her blindly filial husband were two mountains weighing on her. Could simply learning massage really help her move these two mountains?
Just then, the courtyard gate was pushed open, and Lu Linchuan walked in, bringing with him the chill of the morning air and a light sheen of sweat. He had just finished his morning exercise; his camouflage vest was soaked with sweat, outlining the clearly defined lines of his muscles, exuding a vibrant masculine power.
"What are you thinking about?" He walked to her side, naturally wrapped his arms around her waist from behind, rested his chin on her shoulder, and spoke in a deep and magnetic voice.
"I was thinking about Sister Liu Fen." Su Wantang leaned against his burning chest, and the unease in her heart seemed to be dispelled a lot by his body temperature.
“I gave her a book and taught her a little pediatric massage.”
Lu Linchuan hummed in agreement, his large hand gently massaging her flat stomach, his voice tinged with a lazy huskiness: "You've become the director of the Women's Federation, and you're certainly meddling in everything."
That's what he said, but he tightened his grip on her arm. He knew she was soft-hearted and never stopped her from doing what she thought was right. All he wanted to do was be there for her, providing shelter and allowing her to be herself without any worries.
This is her man. A pillar of strength, yet he gives all his tenderness and indulgence to her alone.
Su Wantang felt a warmth in her heart, turned around, tiptoed, and kissed him on the chin.
"Commander Lu, thank you."
"Thank me for what?" He raised an eyebrow, the darkness in his eyes deepening.
"Thank you..." Before she could finish speaking, a commotion suddenly broke out at the entrance of the alley in the family compound.
"Jianjun is back! Squad Leader Liu from the Third Company is back!"
"Oh, you're finally back! This mission lasted quite a while!"
A few loud shouts were like stones thrown into a calm pond.
Su Wantang's heart sank.
Liu Jianjun... Liu Fen's husband, has returned.
She subconsciously looked in the direction of Liu Fen's house, and saw the dilapidated wooden door creak open. Granny Li, like a cat that had smelled blood, ran out to greet her with a fawning and exaggerated smile on her face.
Liu Fen, who had just left Su Wantang's place, holding a book in her arms and with hope burning in her eyes, also stood at the door holding her child. The color drained from her face in an instant when she saw the tall man in military uniform.
That man was Liu Jianjun. He had dark skin, regular features, and a soldier's resolute expression. He strode over and immediately spotted Granny Li rushing towards him.
"Mom!" He grinned, revealing a set of white teeth, and his voice was loud and clear.
"Oh, my son! You're finally back! I've missed you so much!" Granny Li grabbed his arm and immediately burst into tears, wiping her snot and sobs on his clean military uniform. "Son, if you hadn't come back, your mother... your wife and I would have been bullied to death!" (This chapter has been read. Please click to continue reading the next chapter!)
