Chapter 306 The Traitor is Right at His Doorstep?
The night was deep, and the sea breeze was howling.
Members of the "Azure Dragon" special forces team landed on the deserted island like ghosts.
They were dressed in camouflage and their faces were painted, blending into the night.
The special operations team leader, a young captain, wore night vision goggles and maintained contact with his team members through a headset.
"Captain, signal detected," a team member reported in a low voice.
That was a special frequency communication signal given by Su Yue.
The signal was weak, but it guided them in the right direction.
Soon, they discovered the mark left by Gu Beichen—a triangle made of several stones pointing into the depths of the jungle.
"Gu Beichen, you really didn't disappoint me," the captain said in a low voice.
They carefully moved through the jungle, following the markings. The enemy's search efforts were weakest and most lax at dawn.
At the cave entrance, Gu Beichen warily surveyed his surroundings. He knew reinforcements would arrive. Su Yue would definitely find him.
"Commander Gu!" A deep voice rang out at the cave entrance.
Gu Beichen looked up abruptly. The captain appeared at the cave entrance, a weary smile on his face.
"You're a tough guy," the captain said.
Gu Beichen didn't offer any further pleasantries. He nodded.
The captain took a small oilcloth package out of his pocket and handed it to Gu Beichen.
"This is what your sister-in-law asked me to bring to you," the captain said.
Gu Beichen took the package. He opened the oilcloth, and inside was not some kind of magic pill, but a small handful of soil and a few grains of rice.
That's the soil from home, and the rice from the pot.
Gu Beichen smiled. His eyes flashed with murderous intent.
“Tell command that the prey has been caught in the net,” he told the captain.
"It's time to close the net."
"Tonight, I will make this sea pay for my brothers' deaths!"
"Action!" Gu Beichen commanded in a low voice.
The members of the "Azure Dragon" special operations team immediately dispersed.
Like ghosts blending into the night, they silently surrounded the mercenaries on the island, taking advantage of the complex terrain of "Bewitching Reef".
Gu Beichen, along with Xiao Li and two other soldiers, rushed out of the cave.
Instead of launching a frontal assault, he used the jungle as cover and moved in the opposite direction of the enemy's search.
There are more than twenty mercenaries on the island.
They split into several small teams and searched separately.
They thought Gu Beichen and his men were out of ammunition and food, and were just waiting for them to walk into their trap.
"Captain, target spotted! Three-man squad, moving towards the eastern mudflats," came the special forces report through the headset.
Gu Beichen did not respond; his rifle was already aimed.
He led his soldiers around to the back of the mercenary squad.
"Bang!"
A gunshot pierced the night sky. The mercenary at the rear fell to the ground.
The other two immediately lay down and cautiously searched their surroundings.
"It's a sniper!"
"hidden!"
They were well-trained, but Gu Beichen knew the jungle better than they did.
"Xiao Li, to the left!" Gu Beichen said in a deep voice.
"Xiao Zhang, to the right!"
The two soldiers immediately opened fire. Bullets tore through the air.
The mercenaries were pinned down. They didn't know that Gu Beichen and his group consisted of only four people.
"Captain, suppress fire!" Gu Beichen's order came through the earpiece.
The "Azure Dragon" special forces team received orders to launch an attack from the mercenaries' flank.
Gunfire erupted. The mercenaries were thrown into chaos.
They were attacked from both sides and could not determine the number of enemies.
"Damn it! How many of them are there?" the mercenary captain roared over the radio.
"Report, Captain! We're surrounded! The firepower is intense!"
"Hold on! Reinforcements are on their way!" the mercenary captain said, but he felt uneasy inside.
Gu Beichen charged into the enemy ranks like a sharp sword. He moved swiftly, knocking a mercenary unconscious with the butt of his rifle, and then snatched the rifle from the man's hand.
He was agile and ruthless. Every move he made was aimed directly at vital points.
Xiao Li and Xiao Zhang followed closely behind, their teamwork was excellent.
A few minutes later, the entire mercenary squad was wiped out.
"Keep moving forward!" Gu Beichen didn't stop.
He directed the special forces team through his headset, eliminating the scattered mercenary squads one by one.
The mercenary captain was still reporting to his superiors on the radio: "We're harvesting our prey! We'll find Gu Beichen soon!"
Unbeknownst to him, his men were being slaughtered one by one by the "ghosts." Over the radio, the calls from his teammates grew fewer and fewer.
The mercenary captain finally noticed something was wrong.
"Attention everyone! We may be in an ambush!" he warned over the radio.
But it was too late.
Gu Beichen and the special forces team had compressed the remaining mercenaries into a narrow canyon.
"Gu Beichen! You Chinese mutt! Do you think you can escape?" The mercenary captain led the last few elite soldiers into the canyon.
He thought this was a dead end. He was going to fight Gu Beichen to the death here.
But when they rushed into the canyon, death awaited them.
On the high ground on both sides, the special forces soldiers had already set up their heavy machine guns.
On the sea, the naval vessels' guns were already aimed.
"Fire!"
Heavy machine guns spat fire, rockets roared out, and naval cannons boomed.
The canyon was instantly engulfed in flames.
The mercenaries didn't even have time to react before they were engulfed by artillery fire.
Explosions, gunshots, screams.
Gu Beichen charged down the mountain like a tiger. He rushed into the chaotic canyon.
He identified the mercenary captain.
The mercenary captain was dizzy from the artillery fire. When he saw Gu Beichen rushing towards him, he raised his hands in fright.
"Don't kill me! I surrender! I'll tell you everything!" he begged in terror.
Gu Beichen ignored his pleas for mercy. He took out half of the family photo from his pocket.
In the photo, Su Yue is holding two children and smiling brightly.
"My brother will not have died in vain," Gu Beichen said coldly.
The dagger in his hand flashed. The mercenary captain's throat was slit.
Blood gushed out. The mercenary captain collapsed to the ground.
The battle ended quickly.
Gu Beichen counted the number of soldiers. Apart from the wounded, no one had been killed in action.
He walked to the mercenary captain's body. He found an encrypted communication device on the captain's body.
The device is still flashing. It sends a safety signal to a coordinate every three hours.
Gu Beichen took out a map. He located the coordinates based on the signal frequency and time.
The coordinates are near the Hainan Island Military Region compound.
“A mole.” Gu Beichen’s voice was icy.
He immediately relayed this intelligence back to headquarters.
Beijing. Su Yue spent the entire night in the command post, without a wink of sleep.
She received news that Gu Beichen had returned safely. Her nerves, which had been tense for three days, finally relaxed.
She received another encrypted message from Gu Beichen.
According to intelligence, that coordinate was clearly listed.
Su Yue looked at the coordinates and realized it was the large banyan tree outside the compound where people always sat and chatted in the shade.
A cold smile appeared on her lips.
"The mole is right at our doorstep."
Su Yue didn't make a sound. She went to the kitchen and cut a plate of watermelon.
She carried the watermelon and walked out of the Gu family's courtyard. She headed towards the big banyan tree.
Under the banyan tree, Qian Fen and several military wives were gossiping. When they saw Su Yue approaching, they immediately stopped talking.
Su Yue wore a smile, as if nothing had happened.
