Chapter 433 The Mischievous Kid Destroys the House!

Chapter 433 The Mischievous Kid Destroys the House!

On the 28th day of the twelfth lunar month, the wind on the island finally carried a hint of coolness.

The wooden door of the Gu family courtyard was suddenly pushed open.

Su Yue was carrying two jin of pork belly that she had just snatched from the supply and marketing cooperative. Before she could even step across the threshold, she was frozen in place by the sight before her.

The once-smooth vegetable patch looked as if it had been plowed by a cannonball, with the newly sprouted scallion seedlings lying flat on the ground. Several mud pits stood wide open, with piles of fresh, damp soil beside them.

Gu Ping'an, wearing the new cotton-padded jacket that Zhang Huilan had just sewn for him, was lying on the edge of the largest pit, his buttocks sticking up high.

He was waving a shovel with a broken handle, his face and body covered in mud, looking like a potato just dug out of the ground.

Gu Ningjing followed behind her brother, holding a toad she had caught from who-knows-where, and was stuffing it into the pit.

"Brother! Is this our secret base?" Gu Ningjing called out in a childish voice, throwing the toad into the pit. "General, return to your post!"

"Shh! Keep your voice down!" Gu Ping'an turned around and made a shushing gesture. The mud on his face couldn't hide his cleverness. "Don't let Mom hear us, or we'll all get a beating."

"Yeah?"

A clear, cold female voice boomed above their heads.

Gu Ping'an shuddered, and the shovel in his hand clattered into the pit. He mechanically turned his head and saw Su Yue standing behind him, the pork belly she was holding swaying slightly in the wind.

"Mom...Mom?" Gu Ping'an forced a smile that looked more like a grimace. "You...you get off work so early?"

Gu Ningjing reacted even faster, wiping the mud off her clothes and throwing herself at Su Yue's legs, crying, "Mommy! Hug me!"

Su Yue dodged the humanoid mud bullet by sidestepping.

"Stand still."

Two words, more effective than the military's assembly call.

The brother and sister immediately stood side by side, heads down, their little hands covered in mud behind their backs, not daring to breathe.

"Explain this," Su Yue said, pointing to a pit large enough to bury half of Gu Ningjing. "Are you digging a tunnel, or are you planning to bury yourself?"

"We're on an expedition!" Gu Ping'an said defiantly, trying to mask his unease with an air of self-righteousness. "Tiger next door said there's treasure underground. If we find it, we'll buy Mom a big house!"

Su Yue raised an eyebrow. This kid has a sharp tongue, just like his father.

Instead of getting angry, she hung the pork belly on a nail on the wall and turned to walk into the storage room.

Two minutes later, she had a pile of junk in her hands.

Several discarded aluminum cans, a piece of copper wire salvaged from an old radio, and a motor no bigger than a fingernail—leftover scraps from the last equipment repair.

"Treasures are not hidden in the soil."

Su Yue sat on a small stool in the yard, holding a pair of scissors, and snip-snip-snip-cutting a soda can.

The siblings' curiosity instantly overcame their fear, and they moved closer little by little, surrounding Su Yue.

"Where is that?" Gu Pingan couldn't help but ask.

"In my mind."

Su Yue's hands moved without stopping. The aluminum cans were cut into the shape of propellers, copper wires were used to connect the motors, and the base was made from a recycled battery box.

Ten minutes later.

Su Yue placed the simple device in the sunlight.

The warm winter sun shone on the black heat-absorbing plate, and as the current flowed through the copper wires, the propeller made of an aluminum can suddenly started spinning.

"Buzz—"

Although the rotation speed wasn't fast, it was nothing short of a miracle in the eyes of the two children.

"It moved! It moved by itself!" Gu Ping'an lay on the ground, his eyes wide open. "Mom! What kind of magic is this?"

"This is called photoelectric conversion." Su Yue patted the metal shavings off her hands. "Sunlight is converted into electricity, and the electricity drives a motor. That's science."

Gu Ningjing reached out her chubby little hand to grab it, but Su Yue gently blocked it.

"Do you want it?"

The two heads nodded vigorously.

"Fill up the hole and straighten the scallion seedlings. Whoever does the best job gets to keep it."

No sooner had he finished speaking than Gu Pingan grabbed a shovel and rushed out.

Gu Ningjing was not to be outdone, and ran off to move clods of earth with her short legs.

The demolition team was transformed into a construction team in an instant.

Zhang Huilan came out of the kitchen carrying freshly fried dough twists. When she saw this scene, her face broke into a wide grin.

"It has to be you." Zhang Huilan stuffed a piece of twisted dough into Su Yue's mouth. "If it were me, I would have chased her all over the yard with a broom by now."

Su Yue chewed on the crispy fried dough twists, watching the two busy little figures.

Educating children is like conducting scientific research; it's better to guide than to suppress.

The right way is to transform that destructive force into a desire for exploration.

However, the good times didn't last long.

The pit was filled in, but a new war broke out over the ownership of that "solar fan."

"I'm the older brother! I'll play first!" Gu Ping'an fiercely protected the device.

"No! I want it! Wow—"

Gu Ningjing's "terrible twos" may be late, but they will definitely not be absent.

She plopped down on the ground, kicked her legs wildly, and started howling at the top of her lungs.

Its penetrating power was even more piercing than an air raid siren.

Su Yue felt a throbbing sensation in her temples.

They managed to handle superbugs and bacteria strains that almost died due to a power outage, but they couldn't handle a two-year-old baby.

“Gu Ningjing.” Su Yue squatted down, her gaze level with her daughter’s. “The ground is cold; you won’t look pretty if you keep crying.”

"If it's not pretty, it's not pretty!" Gu Ningjing wailed with her eyes closed. "I want that spinning top!"

Gu Ping'an made a face to the side: "Hehehe, you crybaby, I won't give it to you!"

Adding fuel to the fire.

Gu Ningjing's sobs instantly rose an octave, and she even started rolling around on the ground, turning her new clothes into rags.

Su Yue took a deep breath, just about to pick the girl up and "reason with her," when Zhang Huilan intervened.

The old lady calmly took two red paper packets out of her pocket.

"Oh my, whose New Year's money is this?" Zhang Huilan exclaimed, feigning surprise. "It looks like it was meant for the best-behaved child. If no one wants it, I'll use it to buy candy."

The rolling mines on the ground stopped instantly.

Gu Ningjing scrambled to her feet, tears still glistening on her face, and stretched out her hand: "Grandma! I want it!"

"What do you want?" Zhang Huilan held up the red envelope. "Only children who are hygienic and polite can receive it."

Gu Ningjing immediately wiped her hands on her clothes and obediently greeted, "Happy New Year, Grandma!"

The speed at which they changed their tune was astonishing.

Su Yue sighed. It's such a waste that this girl isn't going into acting.

Just as things were getting chaotic, the phone rang inside the house.

The shrill ringing of the bell was particularly clear in the noisy courtyard.

Su Yue's heart skipped a beat. She quickly went into the house and grabbed the receiver.

"Hello?"

"It's me."

A familiar male voice came from the other end of the receiver, deep and tinged with weariness, accompanied by background noise from people and broadcasts.

"Bei Chen?" Su Yue's grip on the receiver tightened. "Still in a meeting?"
