Chapter 446 A water column shoots skyward from a depth of 32 meters!
Su Yue held a flashlight, its beam sweeping across the crevices in the rocks.
Most of the area was bare, with only some drought-resistant cacti and withered weeds.
She wasn't in a hurry, patiently taking her time to go deeper into the area.
Su Yue stopped halfway up the mountain.
Under a huge rock in front, there was a clump of inconspicuous ferns.
Maidenhair fern.
This thing prefers shady and damp environments and has extremely high moisture requirements.
In this parched, scorching place, it's still alive; its leaves are a bit wilted, but its roots are still green.
Su Yue walked over quickly and squatted down.
Below the rock was a crack about the width of a palm, dark and bottomless.
She put her hand into the crack.
A very faint cool breeze wafted onto the back of my hand.
It's windy.
There is underground space, and the air is flowing.
Su Yue lay on the ground and pressed her ear close to the crack.
Besides the sound of the wind, there seemed to be an extremely subtle, muffled rumbling sound, like the pulse deep within the earth.
Found it.
Su Yue got up from the ground, patted the dirt off her knees, and as soon as she turned around, a bright light suddenly shone on her face.
"who!"
Su Yue subconsciously raised her hand to block the light.
The beam of light moved away, revealing Gu Beichen's face, which was so cold it was practically icy.
He was carrying an entrenching tool and still wearing the dirty training uniform he'd worn during the day, clearly having followed us without a break.
"Gu Beichen, were you following me?" Su Yue lowered her hand.
Gu Beichen strode over and grabbed her wrist with terrifying force.
"Su Yue, you're getting bolder and bolder. Running off to this desolate mountain in the middle of the night by yourself, what if you encounter wild boars or snakes?"
Su Yue grabbed his wrist and pulled him to the boulder.
"Put your hand in."
Gu Beichen was stunned for a moment, then she forcefully pressed him down to squat.
He reached his hand into the crack.
A cool breeze.
Gu Beichen's body stiffened.
As an officer who had been stationed on the island for many years, he knew all too well what this cool breeze meant.
"This is……"
“An underground river.” Su Yue’s voice was exceptionally clear in the night. “It’s hollow down there, and the water flow is very strong. As long as we break through this layer of rock, the water will gush out.”
Gu Beichen suddenly stood up and shone his flashlight into the crack.
It is bottomless.
"Are you sure?" He turned to look at Su Yue. "If we drill down, it will go at least thirty meters. If it's empty, the drill bit will break, and the equipment worth hundreds of thousands will be ruined."
“I’ll use Blue Ocean Factory as collateral.” Su Yue looked directly at him. “Are you willing to take the bet?”
Gu Beichen stared at her for three seconds.
"bet."
He planted his entrenching tool in the ground, pulled out a signal pistol from his waist, and fired it into the sky.
"Bang!"
A red signal flare soared into the sky, illuminating the dark night.
Half an hour later.
Two drilling rigs roared up the rocky hill, followed by an entire company of soldiers.
Huo Wenxuan was dragged out of bed by Gu Beichen. He was wearing shorts and slippers and stood in the pile of rocks with a bewildered look on his face.
"They're insane! They're all insane!" Huo Wenxuan jumped up and down in a panic as he watched the soldiers setting up the drill pipe. "Drilling a well on this rocky mountain? Su Yue, are you throwing money into the water?!"
"Shut up." Su Yue stood on a high ground, holding blueprints and marking points for the operator. "If you say another word, I'll throw you down into the well."
Huo Wenxuan shrank back and didn't dare to say a word.
"Start drilling!"
Gu Beichen gave the order.
The huge drill bit spun and pierced the rock, making a screeching sound and sending sparks flying.
Time passed by, second by second.
Ten meters.
It was all hard limestone fragments.
Twenty meters.
The drill pipe began to vibrate violently, emitting a creaking sound as it struggled under the strain.
The operator, sweating profusely, turned around and shouted, "Report, Brigade Commander! The rock formation is too hard, the drill bit temperature is too high, and it's going to break if we keep drilling!"
Gu Beichen glanced at Su Yue.
Su Yue remained expressionless, staring intently at the dark, gaping hole in the borehole.
"Add coolant! Keep firing!" Gu Beichen roared back, "If you damage it, it's on me!"
Thirty meters.
There is still no sign of water.
The soldiers around him began to whisper among themselves, and Huo Wenxuan sat on the ground in despair, starting to calculate the compensation.
Su Yue's palms were sweaty.
Was the judgment wrong?
Impossible. That chill and the maidenhair fern definitely don't lie.
"Change to a diamond drill bit." Su Yue walked over and patted the operator on the shoulder. "Drill down another five meters. If there's still no water, I'll take responsibility."
The operator gritted his teeth and switched to the most expensive spare drill bit.
The machines roared to life again.
Thirty-one meters.
Thirty-two meters.
Suddenly, the ground beneath my feet trembled violently.
The dull rumbling sound became clearer, as if a giant beast was awakening underground.
"Back off! All of you, back off!"
Gu Beichen reacted quickly, scooped up Su Yue, and carried her back more than ten meters.
"boom!"
A loud bang.
The drill rod was pushed out by a huge force and flew several meters away.
Immediately afterwards, a white column of water broke through the rock layer, carrying mud, sand and gravel, and shot straight into the sky!
water!
Clear, cool groundwater!
The water jet shot up seven or eight meters high, and under the beam of the searchlight, it dispersed into a mist that filled the sky, just like a downpour.
"Water is coming out! Water is coming out!"
"My goodness! They really fought!"
The soldiers rushed into the mist like madmen, throwing their hats into the air. Huo Wenxuan sprang to his feet, ignoring the fact that he had lost one of his slippers, grinning foolishly as muddy water poured into his mouth.
Gu Beichen wiped the water off his face and turned to look at Su Yue.
Su Yue was soaked to the bone, her hair plastered to her cheeks, and water droplets dripping down her chin.
She was smiling.
That kind of heartfelt, unrestrained laughter.
Gu Beichen strode over, and amidst the misty air and deafening cheers, lifted her up and spun her around twice.
"Su Yue, you are truly a goddess."
The water flowed down the hillside, into the dried-up ditch, and towards the farm that was dying of thirst.
No one slept at Red Star Farm that night.
The military wives carried buckets and basins, gathered around the well, and cried as they filled their cups with water.
Zhao Tiezhu held a bowl of freshly drawn water and handed it to Su Yue.
"Sister-in-law, have a sip." This man, who never sheds tears but bleeds, had a trembling voice. "This is life-saving water."
Su Yue took the bowl and drank a big gulp.
Sweet and cool.
"It's sweet." Su Yue handed the bowl to Gu Beichen.
Gu Beichen drank the rest of his drink from the spot where she had already drunk.
"Huo Wenxuan," Su Yue called out.
Huo Wenxuan was hugging the water outlet and grinning foolishly when he heard the shout and quickly ran over: "What's wrong, Director Su? What are your orders!"
“From now on, this well will be called ‘Red Star Well’,” Su Yue said, pointing to the still-gushing column of water. “Also, notify the factory that starting tomorrow, the seabuckthorn pulp production line will be running at full capacity. We have water, and we have to make money too.”
Huo Wenxuan gave an awkward salute: "Alright! You can ask me to go and invite the Dragon King here, I'll go!"
