Chapter 79 You're my aunt?!
The Chu Family Compound is a relatively large single-row independent courtyard in the family compound.
The guards at the gate saw Gu Beichen's jeep with military license plates parked haphazardly at the gate. Before they could even approach to question him, they were intimidated by the terrifying aura emanating from the man in the car and dared not move.
Gu Beichen slammed the car door shut, didn't even glance at the guard, and strode straight inside.
His face was colder than the Siberian wind.
Su Yue followed closely behind, her face expressionless, but her clear eyes were like a bottomless, icy pool.
In the living room, Grandma Chu was leisurely listening to opera while holding a cup of fine Longjing tea.
Chu Jingya sat to the side, her brows furrowed with worry, as if she were preoccupied with something.
"Bang!"
Gu Beichen kicked open the living room door.
The loud noise made the phonograph needle jump, producing a piercing noise.
Grandma Chu's teacup wobbled, spilling scalding tea all over her hand. Ignoring the pain, she looked up abruptly and met Gu Beichen's eyes, which were burning with boundless rage.
"Gu Beichen! How dare you!" Old Madam Chu shouted sternly, slamming her dragon-headed cane heavily on the ground. "This is the Chu family home! Not a place for you to run wild!"
Gu Beichen sneered, completely ignoring her shouts.
He strode to the center of the living room and slammed an envelope and a crumpled piece of paper onto the mahogany coffee table.
"Hiring someone to commit assault, and targeting active-duty officers and their families."
Gu Beichen's voice was not loud, but it was like a poisoned ice blade, each word striking the heart of everyone present.
"Old lady, how dare you!"
When Grandma Chu saw the familiar note, her pupils suddenly contracted.
Those were the address and license plate number she wrote herself!
Her heart skipped a beat, but she maintained her composure, even flashing a mocking smile.
"I don't know what you're talking about. You dare to cause trouble at my Chu family's house with a piece of paper that's been forged from who-knows-where? Gu Beichen, I think you've lost your mind!"
She vehemently denied it, and then turned the tables on her.
"I think your wife from the countryside has bewitched you, making you abandon even the most basic manners and dignity!"
"My wife?" Gu Beichen seemed to have heard the biggest joke in the world. He took a step forward, and the powerful pressure made Old Madam Chu gasp for breath.
"My wife was almost ruined by those five scumbags you sent!"
"My wife, to protect me, personally used a hairpin to knock down two strong men!"
Every word he uttered seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth, carrying a bloody stench.
"Old lady, you touched someone you shouldn't have today!"
Su Yue, who had been silent all along, slowly spoke at this moment.
She walked to Gu Beichen's side and looked calmly at Old Madam Chu, whose face had turned somewhat pale.
"Madam, evidence is never just a piece of paper."
As she spoke, she took out a tape recorder and pressed the play button (a modern small voice recorder used to record audio and then import it onto a cassette tape for playback).
After a burst of static, a rough, fearful male voice came clearly from inside.
"It's...it's the old lady from the Chu family! She sent us! She said to break the legs of the men and take the women back to teach them manners..."
It was that bald man's voice!
The sound wasn't loud, but it caused quite a stir in the large living room.
The color drained from Old Mrs. Chu's face instantly.
She never expected that the other party had such a trick up their sleeve!
"Jingya, did you hear that?" Su Yue turned off the recorder and turned her gaze to Chu Jingya, who was already dumbfounded.
"This is your good grandmother. She's willing to use such despicable means to force me to break off the engagement and let you take her place."
Su Yue's voice was soft, yet it carried a power that could see into people's hearts.
"Even if you get a husband you stole through dirty tricks from your elders, can you sleep soundly? When you go out and face the pointing fingers and whispers of everyone in the Beijing compound, can you hold your head up?"
"You'll be talked about behind your back for the rest of your life, people will say that you, the eldest daughter of the Chu family, are a mistress who will stop at nothing, and a robber!"
"No...no...I didn't..."
Chu Jingya's psychological defenses completely collapsed at this moment.
She stood up abruptly, tears streaming down her face. She didn't dare look at Su Yue, but turned to her grandmother, her voice filled with disappointment and pain.
"Grandma! How could you do this! How could you!"
She cried out, "I begged you, I begged you to stop interfering in my affairs! I don't want this kind of marriage! I don't want it!"
Su Yue's words were like daggers to the heart.
Although Chu Jingya also had feelings for Gu Beichen, she was still proud at heart.
She cannot accept that her future marriage is based on such dirty and despicable scheming.
"Shut up!" Old Mrs. Chu was trembling with anger after being publicly rebuked by her granddaughter. She roared furiously, "Who did I do all this for? Wasn't it all for you! For the sake of the Chu family's reputation!"
"I don't want to lose face like this!" Chu Jingya cried and shook her head. She staggered to Su Yue and bowed deeply.
"I'm sorry... Comrade Su Yue, I'm so sorry... It was my grandmother's fault, I apologize to you on her behalf..."
The Chu family was in complete chaos.
Amidst the chaos, a gentle yet weary voice came from the doorway.
"What's going on? Why is it so noisy at home?"
Everyone looked in the direction of the sound.
A middle-aged woman, dressed in a beige trench coat and exuding a gentle and quiet demeanor, was standing at the door, pulling a suitcase.
She was beautiful, and her features bore a striking resemblance to Chu Jingya, though her demeanor was more serene and gentle.
It was Chu Jingya's mother, Madam Chu, Chen Yaru.
She had just returned from a meeting out of town, and upon entering the room, she saw this tense and chaotic scene, which made her frown.
"Mom, you're back." Chu Jingya saw her mother and, as if she had found her pillar of support, rushed over to her, crying.
Chen Yaru patted her daughter's back, her gaze sweeping across the living room. When she saw Gu Beichen and Su Yue, she nodded politely.
But when her gaze inadvertently fell on the white jade phoenix hairpin in Su Yue's hand, which she hadn't had time to put away during the fight, she felt as if she had been struck by lightning.
The gentle smile on her face froze instantly.
The suitcase in my hand slipped and fell to the ground with a thud.
Her body began to tremble uncontrollably, her beautiful eyes fixed on the phoenix hairpin, her pupils contracting violently from extreme shock.
“This…this hairpin…”
Chen Yaru's voice trembled violently, as if it were being squeezed out from deep in her throat.
"This hairpin...where...where did you get it?"
