Chapter 463 The Ultimate Romance Above the Capital

Chapter 463 The Ultimate Romance Above the Capital

"There is no joking in the military."

Gu Beichen carried her onto the helicopter, fastened her seatbelt, then sat in the pilot's seat and put on his headphones.

"Hold on tight, Mrs. Gu."

He pulled the control lever.

The helicopter took off and roared into the night sky over Beijing.

Beneath your feet lies the Great Wall, stretching for thousands of miles, like a giant dragon coiled among the towering mountains.

"Where to?" Su Yue asked loudly.

Gu Beichen did not answer.

He simply turned his head to look at the woman beside him who had risked her life for him, and whispered a love confession over the radio channel that only she could hear.

"Let me show you the empire I've built for you."

The propellers churned up the night wind of the capital, and their enormous roar shut out all the noise of the world.

The helicopter took off and quickly gained altitude.

Su Yue was slumped in the passenger seat, the seatbelt tightening quite a bit.

The moment the feeling of weightlessness hit, her hand instinctively grabbed the handrail next to her.

"Scared?"

Gu Beichen's deep voice came through the headset, mixed with the crackling sound of electricity, making it sound particularly magnetic.

Su Yue turned her head to the side.

Gu Beichen held the control lever with one hand, while skillfully toggling various switches on the dashboard with the other.

The soft green light emanating from the dashboard illuminated his sharply defined profile, highlighting his straight nose and taut jawline, exuding an air of effortless control.

The way this man flies a plane is even wilder than when he drives a Jeep.

"Scared?" Su Yue pressed the call button, raising an eyebrow as she looked at the rapidly receding lights outside the window. "Commander Gu, you underestimate me. This altitude is just an appetizer compared to the heart-pounding excitement we experienced in the banquet hall just now."

Gu Beichen chuckled lightly, without refuting.

He pulled the control lever sharply.

The fuselage tilted to the left and made a large-angle turn.

The capital city below tilted instantly.

Chang'an Avenue is like a flowing golden river, running from east to west.

The lights of Tiananmen Square were as bright as day, while the glazed tiles of the Forbidden City gleamed with a serene luster in the night.

Looking further into the distance, one sees countless lights, scattered like stars, weaving together a vast net of light.

This is Beijing in the 1970s.

Although it lacks the towering buildings of later generations, it possesses a unique sense of depth and vitality belonging to this era.

“That’s our home.” Gu Beichen pointed to a dark patch below. “The old house is to the west. Look at the outline of that courtyard house.”

Su Yue looked in the direction he pointed.

It was pitch black and she couldn't see anything, but that didn't stop her from imagining a warm scene of her family sitting together.

"Hold on tight, we're about to speed up."

Gu Beichen looked away and accelerated his push.

The helicopter shot off like an arrow, hurtling towards the northern mountains.

A few minutes later, the city lights were left behind.

Instead, there are rolling black mountain ranges.

The moonlight spilled onto the mountain ridge, outlining a vast and majestic dragon.

Great Wall.

It lies quietly among the towering mountains, its beacon tower standing tall, bearing witness to a thousand years of wind and frost.

"How about it?" Gu Beichen's voice carried a hint of barely perceptible boasting. "This is the best observation deck in all of China."

Su Yue pressed herself against the porthole, looking down at the winding dragon below, her heart pounding with awe.

The Great Wall from this perspective possesses a breathtaking sense of oppression and magnificence.

"Gu Beichen," Su Yue suddenly spoke, "did you often fly like this before?"

“It used to be patrol.” Gu Beichen hovered the helicopter above a beacon tower, the wind pressure making the trees below sway wildly. “Every time I flew here, I thought, how wonderful it would be if I could bring you here someday.”

At that time, she was the girl he longed for day and night on the island.

He is a warrior who guards this land.

Now, the country is safe and sound, and my loved one is by my side.

Su Yue unbuckled her seatbelt, leaned over, and touched his cheek through the thick flight helmet.

"Thank you, Commander, for showing me around the territory."

Gu Beichen turned his head, took off his helmet, and gave that chattering little mouth a big kiss.

The helicopter swayed slightly.

"Stop messing around." Gu Beichen put his helmet back on, concealing the turbulent emotions in his eyes. "If we fall, we'll become the Condor Heroes."

Half an hour later.

The helicopter landed on the helipad of a military training ground in Zhangjiakou.

This is where Gu Beichen once led his troops for training. The area is deserted, with only a few abandoned shooting ranges and howling north winds.

Gu Beichen jumped off the plane, turned around, and carried Su Yue down.

He didn't put Su Yue down, but instead placed her directly on the still-warm nose of the plane, stood between her legs, braced his hands on the fuselage, and held her in his arms.

"Su Yue".

"Um?"

Su Yue looked down at him and reached out to tidy his short hair, which was messed up by the helmet.

“These next few days, the capital will be in chaos.” Gu Beichen tilted his head back, letting her fingers run through his hair. “The Lin family has fallen, and many people want to take advantage of the situation. There are also those who are jealous of your award; who knows what bad things they are plotting behind your back.”

Su Yue's fingers paused for a moment, then slid down his temple and pinched his earlobe.

"Are you afraid I can't handle it?"

"No." Gu Beichen grabbed her hand and breathed warm air on it. "I'm afraid you'll find it troublesome and then want to quit and go back to the island."

Su Yue smiled.

This man really understands her.

She is indeed someone who hates trouble.

She would never use her brain if she could solve something with her fists; she would never let a grudge linger overnight if she could settle it on the spot. She was truly annoyed by the intricate social dynamics of the capital.

"Don't worry." Su Yue jumped off the nose of the plane, landing safely in Gu Beichen's hands. "As long as no one tries to intrude into my lab, I won't bother with them. But if anyone's looking for trouble..."

She straightened her scarf, which had been ruffled by the wind, without finishing her sentence.

But Gu Beichen understood.

“That third son of the Lin family, Lin Jiakang,” Gu Beichen said as he opened the car door for her—a jeep that had been waiting for her next to the helipad—“He’s been contacting several foreign medical journals these past few days and has been frequently visiting the Academy of Sciences’ archives. Keep an eye on him.”

Su Yue got into the car and fastened her seatbelt.

"Lin Jiakang?"

The image of the bespectacled man who had coffee splashed all over his face in the conference room flashed into her mind.

"Just a clown." Su Yue leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes. "I hope he can give me some surprises, otherwise life in the capital is too boring."
