Chapter 376 Are the twin babies angry?
"Let's change seats," Su Yue nudged him. "I'll sit outside, you can come in and warm up for a bit."
"Don't move." Gu Beichen pressed her down. "Just go to sleep. I'm a man, I'm got the stamina."
Su Yue was about to argue when Gu Beichen suddenly lowered his head and rubbed his stubble-covered chin against her cheek.
"Wife, let's have another child when we get back."
Su Yue was taken aback: "Why are you suddenly bringing this up?"
“When I came out this time and saw those sick children, I just wanted peace and tranquility.” Gu Beichen looked at the dark cave ceiling. “This world is not peaceful. If we have more children, we can take care of each other in the future.”
Su Yue pinched his waist: "Are you trying to raise me like a pig?"
Gu Beichen chuckled softly, his chest heaving: "I can afford to raise them. Let alone three or five, I can even raise a whole company."
In this perilous situation where life and death were uncertain, he chatted and laughed, talking about the most mundane things, yet he gave Su Yue the greatest sense of security.
This is her man.
If the sky falls, use it as a blanket.
The next morning.
The wind stopped.
A ray of blinding sunlight shone in from above Gu Beichen's shoulder, illuminating the dim cave.
Su Yue opened her eyes and found herself nestled in Gu Beichen's arms, covered by his military overcoat. Half of Gu Beichen's body was buried by the sand that had blown in, and his eyebrows were covered in a layer of frost.
"woke up?"
Gu Beichen moved his stiff neck, his joints cracking.
Su Yue quickly got up and helped him brush the sand off his body.
Are your legs numb?
"I can't feel it anymore," Gu Beichen said truthfully, but he was still smiling. "Rub it for me."
Su Yue rolled her eyes at him, but gently massaged his stiff muscles.
Just then, a rumbling sound came from afar.
It grows larger and larger as it approaches from afar.
"It's a helicopter!"
The team members inside the cave cheered and rushed out.
In the azure sky, two camouflage-painted helicopters circled, searching for a landing spot. The bright red five-pointed star on their fuselages gleamed in the sunlight.
Gu Beichen leaned against the wall to stand up, squinting at the sky.
"Qin Zheng, that kid, he's quick on his feet."
Su Yue held his arm: "It seems that you, Chief of Staff Gu, have quite a lot of influence, as you can actually mobilize a helicopter."
"That's right." Gu Beichen turned his head and looked at Su Yue's face, which was tired but still bright and beautiful. "To bring my wife home, we have to make a big show of it."
The helicopter created a huge gust of air as it slowly landed on the sand dunes.
The hatch opened, and Qin Zheng, fully armed, jumped out and ran wildly in this direction.
"Old Gu! Sister-in-law! Are you alright?"
Gu Beichen held Su Yue's waist, standing straight against the wind.
He didn't answer, but simply raised his hand in a standard military salute.
Sunlight bathed the beautiful couple, casting long, long shadows. Against the backdrop of the golden desert, this scene was frozen in time.
The roar of helicopter rotors swirled above the Qiongzhou Military Region compound, and huge gusts of air stirred up dust from the parade ground.
Su Yue had just jumped off the plane and hadn't even gotten her footing when she saw a group of people running towards her in the distance.
Leading the group was Zhang Huilan, who was holding Ning Jing's hand and carrying Ping An on her back.
The two little ones were wearing identical sailor shirts and tiger-head hats, staring longingly in their direction.
"Mom!" Su Yue called out, her eyes welling up with tears, and rushed over.
Gu Beichen followed closely behind. His leg injury hadn't fully healed, so he walked with a slight limp, but his speed was by no means slow.
"Oh, you're finally back!" Zhang Huilan wiped away her tears and put Ping An down from her back. "Look, who's back? Quickly call them Mom and Dad!"
Su Yue squatted down, opened her arms, and prepared to welcome the two little balls of flesh thrashing about.
However, the expected swallows returning to the forest did not happen.
Ning Jing stared at Su Yue for two seconds, then suddenly turned her head and showed Su Yue her round back of her head.
Ping An was even more audacious, clinging tightly to Zhang Huilan's thighs with both hands, burying her face in her grandmother's trouser legs, and turning her back to Gu Beichen, refusing to look up no matter how much she was coaxed.
The air seemed to freeze for a moment.
Su Yue's hand froze awkwardly in mid-air as she turned to look at Gu Beichen: "So... you don't recognize us anymore?"
Gu Beichen was also a little confused, scratching his short stubble: "Really? It's only been half a month."
Zhang Huilan sighed and patted Ping An's bottom: "These two little devils, ever since you left, they've been sitting on little stools at the door waiting every day. We could coax them a couple of days ago, but these past two days they won't even eat candy and just cry their eyes out. They're angry and blaming you for not wanting them."
Su Yue felt a sudden pang of sadness, as if she had been pricked by a needle.
She moved closer and poked Ningjing's chubby cheek: "Jingjing, Mommy's back. I brought some yummy food, do you want some?"
Ning Jing stiffened, her small shoulders trembled, but she didn't turn around.
Su Yue reached out and took Ping An's hand again: "An An, Daddy caught a big rabbit for you, it's in the bag, don't you want to see it?"
Ping An shook her head vigorously, gripping the drum even tighter with her little hands, mumbling incoherently, "Bad...bad daddy...no..."
Gu Beichen squatted down, took the wild rabbit he had caught in the desert out of his pack, and waved it above Ping An's head.
"Really don't want it? Then I'll give it to Xiao Gang from Aunt Pang's house next door."
Ping An's ears twitched.
He quietly peeked his face out from under his trouser leg, revealing a large, black, grape-like eye, and glanced at the grayish-brown, long-eared rabbit.
The rabbit kicked its legs.
Ping An sniffled, then pulled her head back, crying out, "No... I want Grandma..."
This is a big problem.
Gu Beichen looked at Su Yue as if pleading for help.
He was ruthless on the battlefield, killing enemies without batting an eye, but he was completely helpless against this stubborn little brat.
Su Yue gritted her teeth, stood up, and rolled up her sleeves: "It seems I have no choice but to use my ultimate move."
Half an hour later.
A rich aroma of milk wafted from the Gu family's courtyard.
Su Yue was busy working in the kitchen.
Without an oven, she used the large iron pot, placed a steamer basket on it, and lined the bottom with gauze.
Flour, eggs, sugar, plus milk powder and a jar of precious strawberry jam taken from the space... no, from the cabinet.
Gu Beichen was also busy in the courtyard.
He tied the wild rabbit to the grape trellis, then took out a piece of wood and a carving knife, and started whittling and chopping.
The two little ones sat on small stools with their backs to the two adults, pretending to watch ants moving house, but actually their ears were perked up high.
"bite--"
Su Yue lifted the lid of the pot.
A large plate of soft, sweet steamed cakes topped with bright red strawberry jam has just come out of the oven.
That sweet, cloying aroma wafted straight into one's nose.
