Chapter 254 Unusually Quiet
By the time Mr. Huo belatedly realized what was happening and called his fourth uncle, an hour had already passed.
"Hey, fourth brother, are you still listening?"
Uncle Huo: "I'm listening."
Mr. Huo said, "Well, I didn't call for any other reason than to tell you that the third son's family has welcomed a pair of twins, a boy and a girl!"
Uncle Huo remained silent for a while, wondering how he should tell his elder brother.
This is the third good news call he has received today.
"Brother, don't worry, I understand."
He had already discussed it with his wife when he received the first call from his father to announce the good news.
So, the two of them planned to go to the department store after work to buy some things for their niece-in-law and send them to her.
"By the way, brother, has my niece-in-law and her husband said when they're going back to Beijing this year?"
Mr. Huo sensed something was wrong as soon as he heard the tone of his voice.
"What's wrong? Do you need my daughter-in-law's help again?"
"No, I was just asking."
The matter was accomplished in secrecy and is currently still in the discussion stage.
Whether it will ultimately work out or not, Uncle Huo couldn't say for sure, so he didn't rule out the possibility.
However, he figured it should work out.
...
Jiang Si was unaware of the secret matter that Uncle Huo had mentioned; her primary task now was to recover her health.
To be fair, aside from the first day of labor being rather difficult, Jiang Si had a pretty easy and comfortable few days afterward.
Firstly, both babies are really well-behaved.
All I do every day is eat and sleep.
Even if someone occasionally urinates or defecates, it is immediately cleaned up.
Secondly, my mother-in-law and third uncle were really great.
Aside from feeding the children a few meals during the day, Jiang Si didn't have to worry about anything else.
Moreover, she could tell that her mother-in-law had been intentionally training Huo Tingzhou these past few days.
Of course, she also overheard a bit of it.
She thought she had learned quite well, but her mother-in-law said otherwise.
One minute they say her burping motion isn't standard, the next they say the way she's holding the baby makes the baby uncomfortable.
But the same action came into Huo Tingzhou's hands.
The only thing Mrs. Huo said was, "Fantastic!"
The praise made Jiang Si question her very existence.
Later she realized that her mother-in-law seemed to have done it on purpose.
After three days of 'intensive training,' Huo Tingzhou became incredibly adept at taking care of the child.
Now, as soon as the child makes a sound, he runs faster than anyone else.
He can even immediately tell whether a baby needs to poop or is hungry just by hearing the baby cry out.
Three days passed in the blink of an eye, and Jiang Si did not have an episiotomy or vaginal tear.
The night before, Dr. Jiang informed them that they could be discharged today.
Early in the morning, Mrs. Huo packed up her things and sent them back.
They can go home as soon as Dr. Jiang signs the discharge form.
But after waiting for almost half an hour, Dr. Jiang still hadn't come.
The babies were probably getting a little impatient, because after waking up they started kicking and thrashing around in the cradle.
It would occasionally make bubbling sounds from its mouth.
Despite their fuss, neither baby cried.
Seeing this, Mrs. Huo came up and praised her again, "Look how well-behaved our baby is! He didn't fuss at all during his postpartum period, and he rarely even cried."
That's absolutely true.
Huo Tingzhou booked this suite so that Jiang Si and the children could stay comfortably for the next few days.
But in fact, Jiang Si was not comfortable at all during her hospital stay.
There was nothing we could do; the nursery was also on the fourth floor. Although it was separated by five or six rooms, we could still hear crying coming from there from time to time.
Several times, my baby had just fallen asleep when he was woken up by crying outside.
During this time, Huo's mother went to the nursery to ask a few questions, but the nursery's response was...
There are too many children, and they can't manage them all. There's nothing they can do about the children crying.
Fortunately, I can go home today.
As she spoke, Mrs. Huo teased the two children.
"When we get home, Sui Sui and Zhao Zhao will be able to sleep in as late as they want, right?"
What was said without malice may have been taken to heart by the listener.
A thought suddenly flashed through Jiang Si's mind.
Before he could think it through, he was interrupted by the voices of several people.
It wasn't until Zhao Zhao pouted and made a yawning, tearful sound that Jiang Si finally realized what was going on.
She stood there stunned for a long time.
Huo Tingzhou picked up his daughter, supporting her back with his large hands, and gently coaxed her to sleep.
He asked, "Wife, what's wrong?"
Jiang Si: "Don't you guys think it's unusually quiet today?"
"Yeah, that's true."
Mrs. Huo glanced in the direction of the nursery. "Several children cried until their voices were hoarse yesterday at this time. Why is it so quiet today?"
However, before the group could figure out the reason, Dr. Jiang arrived.
Perhaps due to working non-stop at the hospital these past few days, Dr. Jiang looked visibly haggard.
After signing the papers, Dr. Jiang instructed, "Go back and take good care of yourself during your postpartum period. You may experience contractions and pain in the next few days, especially when you are breastfeeding."
"These are all normal phenomena, you don't need to worry. If anything happens, just have your partner come and find me."
"In addition, you must not stay up late during the postpartum period, and you should also pay attention to your eye health. The room should be properly ventilated."
"Under normal circumstances, as long as you don't touch cold water or get exposed to cold wind, there shouldn't be any major problems."
Jiang Si listened attentively, nodding occasionally.
"Thank you, Dr. Jiang. I'm so sorry to have troubled you throughout my pregnancy."
Upon hearing this, Dr. Jiang waved his hand.
As doctors, these are things they should do.
It's not a matter of whether it's troublesome or not.
"Oh, right, there's one more thing..."
She said this last point to Huo Tingzhou: "New mothers are prone to depression after giving birth."
"If there's anything that makes you unhappy, you should address it promptly and be more tolerant."
Huo Tingzhou nodded, his expression serious. "I will, Dr. Jiang."
"Okay, that's settled then."
Just as Dr. Jiang turned to leave, Jiang Si suddenly spoke.
"Wait a minute, Dr. Jiang."
"Hmm? What's wrong? Is there something else?" Dr. Jiang asked, looking puzzled.
Jiang Si: "It's nothing, I just wanted to ask if any new staff have been added to the nursery in the last couple of days?"
Dr. Jiang was taken aback, clearly not expecting her to ask that question.
Not yet.
After saying that, she asked again, "What's wrong? Have I been disturbing you these past few days?"
"No, it's very quiet today."
Jiang Si didn't like beating around the bush, so she just said it directly.
"It's precisely because it's so quiet that we find it strange."
Mrs. Huo nodded in agreement, "That's right. We could hear the children crying every day for the past few days, but there hasn't been a sound at all today."
Dr. Jiang frowned slightly after hearing this. "Not even a sound?"
"Yes, I thought you had added more people."
After listening, Dr. Jiang didn't say anything more, but instead glanced at Jiang Si thoughtfully.
When she comes to check on patients here, she often hears crying and fussing.
Today is indeed as Comrade Jiang said, unusually quiet.
With these thoughts in mind, Dr. Jiang walked straight to the nursery as soon as she left the ward.
The door opened, and the nurse inside looked surprised. "Dr. Jiang, what brings you here?"
Just as Dr. Jiang was about to speak, head nurse Tan Mingna came out from the inner room.
"Dr. Jiang, is there something you need?"
Dr. Jiang didn't speak, but glanced into the inner room.
Are the children all asleep?
"Um."
Tan Mingna's eyes flickered. "I just fed them, and it was so hard to get them to sleep..."
"Okay, I'll go in and take a look."
"That won't do! We finally managed to get the child to sleep. If we go in now and wake him up, we'll have to spend more time getting him back to sleep."
When she said this, Tan Mingna's tone rose noticeably.
Just as Dr. Jiang was wondering why this person was reacting so strongly, a sudden shout came from behind him.
"Dr. Jiang—"
"What's wrong?"
"The woman in labor in room 205 has fainted. Go and check on her quickly."
"Okay, I understand."
As he spoke, Dr. Jiang quickly peeked through the crack in the door.
Seeing the children lying quietly in their cribs, I could only suppress the strange feeling in my heart for the time being.
However, just as Dr. Jiang turned to go downstairs, the nurse in the nursery looked panicked.
"Head Nurse, something terrible has happened!"
