Once their feet were finally on the ground, all four of them breathed a sigh of relief. It was the first time they had experienced how tiring it was to sit still.
"Let's find a guesthouse first, wash up, have something to eat, and then go to my cousin Shuqi's house tonight."
Wang Wenye's words resonated with everyone; they knew they had to wash off the stench, or they wouldn't be able to show their faces in public.
The four of them found a guesthouse nearby, showed their letters of introduction, and successfully checked in.
After everyone had a comfortable shower and dinner, it was time to leave work. Lu Shuqi took the things his sister-in-law had prepared for his second sister, as well as the gifts the others had prepared, and took a car to his cousin's house.
"Shanghai is so big, there are so many people, and the buildings are so tall!"
Jiang Fei was leaving Yunnan Province for the first time, and he couldn't take it all in; it was just too good. No wonder the young people were so eager to return to the city. If it were him, he would want to come back too; there was no comparison.
Wang Wenye and Qian Weiguo were somewhat better off; after all, Kyoto was also a major city, just different from Shanghai. They appreciated the prosperity of different cities but didn't envy them. This is simply how different environments lead to different perspectives.
Otherwise, why would so many parents in later generations engage in such intense competition, trying every possible way to take their children out to see the world and broaden their horizons? They just want their children to not lose at the starting line and not fall too far behind. The idea is good, but many parents overestimate their own family's capabilities, leaving both adults and children exhausted, which is somewhat counterproductive.
Once you get off the bus, you'll find yourself in the alleyways of life, much like the hutongs of Kyoto.
Lu Shuqi led a few people to her cousin's house, knocked on the door, and wondered if anyone was home.
"Oh, Shuqi, why are you back? Did you go back to the city? Did Shurui and your sister-in-law come back too?"
"Sister, I didn't go back to the city. I'm on a business trip and I'm here to see my brother-in-law. Is he home?"
"Yes, I'm home. Come in quickly. I've been so busy talking to you. Come on in, everyone. This must be your colleague, right?"
Sister Lu was so worried about Shu Rui that she neglected the people behind Shu Qi, which made her feel a little embarrassed.
"Cheng Qian, Shuqi is back. She needs to talk to you."
"Shuqi is back?"
Cheng Qian walked out carrying his daughter, looking puzzled.
"Brother-in-law, I'm here on a business trip and I have something to ask you. These are my colleagues, Wang Wenye, Qian Weiguo, and Jiang Fei."
Lu Shuqi quickly explained his purpose, so that his brother-in-law wouldn't misunderstand that he could return to the city.
"Hello, brother-in-law!"
"Welcome, please have a seat. Shuxia, take our daughter to her grandma's to play for a while."
"Okay, I'll take the baby next door, you two talk. Shuqi, have you eaten yet? I'll make you something to eat later."
This whole thing has made me forget to ask them when they got off the bus and whether they had eaten.
"Sister, we've finished eating, you don't need to do anything else. These are things your sister-in-law asked us to bring you; they're gifts we bought for the children."
Lu Shuqi quickly handed over what she was holding; she had forgotten about it for a while.
Lu Erjie took the gift, wondering what new and interesting things Yu Yin had brought her this time.
"Oh dear, you young folks, why are you being so polite with me? Bringing gifts is too formal."
Sister Lu scolded, "These guys aren't very old, yet they're so polite."
"Alright, take the child out first. We're talking, it's getting dark."
Brother-in-law Lu probably guessed why they had come, so he interrupted his wife's rambling and said he had to get down to business.
"Okay, I'll go first. You guys talk."
Sister Lu took the child out, leaving them behind to discuss important matters.
"You came here because of that batch of goods from Yunnan Province?"
"Yes and no. Our director told us to receive the goods and check their condition. If there are no problems with long-distance transportation, we'll see if we can get other orders. However, none of us have experience with these things before, so we wanted to ask my brother-in-law for some advice."
"Yes, I heard from Sister Lu that my brother-in-law is very capable."
Qian Weiguo chimed in, saying, "They should learn from a master, otherwise how will they manage?"
"Are you acquainted with Yu Yin as well?"
"I'm familiar with her. When we first came to the countryside, we always went to my sister-in-law's house to freeload and get some good food."
"It's as if you're not going anymore."
Qian Weiguo has been criticized; there's nothing that can be done about it, it's a fact.
"Okay, it's not that difficult. When will your goods arrive?"
"I'll arrive tomorrow afternoon, if the train isn't delayed."
"Alright, your first task tomorrow is to receive the goods. Make sure you have the delivery note and check it carefully. After that, contact the ordering company and have them come to pick up the goods. Count them in person, get their signatures, and once everything is confirmed, have their finance department make the payment."
Lu's brother-in-law explained the process, which is the basic procedure for both buyers and sellers now.
Lu Shuqi had already noted down the main information. He liked to write things down; a bad pen is worse than a good memory.
Wang Wenye and the other two listened attentively; this was all very useful information that they would need in the future.
Lu's brother-in-law then shared some tips on dealing with various departments, how to get information out of leaders at all levels, and how to offer small favors. Nowadays, large bribes are rare; at most, it's just a little food and drink.
The group asked a few more questions, and since it was already past nine o'clock, it was too late, so they prepared to leave.
"Brother-in-law, it's too late, the kids must be sleepy. We'll head back now. We'll need your help a lot in the future."
Shuqi took the lead in saying goodbye, and Lu's second brother-in-law did not try to stop them. It was indeed getting late, and there would be plenty of time later.
"Okay, where are you staying?"
Judging from the looks of it, it's impossible for me to stay at my third aunt's house; there's not enough room anyway.
"We booked a room at a guesthouse near the train station and will stay there tonight. We'll talk about it after we pick up the goods."
