The next day, Yu Yin went to her workplace first, asked for half a day off, and then met up with Lu Shurui to go to the county hospital together.
She found the doctor who delivered her baby and made a final attempt to save her life.
"Yu Yin, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"
Dr. Lin knew Yu Yin not only because Yu's mother also worked here, but also because she had a deep impression of the difficult childbirth last time. Everyone thought that all three of them would die, but in the end, they were all saved. It was a miracle!
"Aunt Lin, you said last time that the chances of me getting pregnant again are almost nonexistent, right?"
After a moment's pause, Yu Yin finally spoke and asked.
"But I haven't had my period for two months, could I be pregnant?"
Seeing the nervous look on Yu Yin and her husband's faces, Dr. Lin assumed they were anxious about having a child and were being very cautious.
"Yes, the possibility is low, but that doesn't mean you're completely unable to get pregnant."
Upon hearing this, Yu Yin's shoulders slumped visibly, and she looked utterly hopeless.
What's going on? Do they want a child or not?
"Aunt Lin, please give me a form so I can check it."
Yu Yin's words, "ready to die for her country," sounded as if she were heading to the battlefield.
"Okay, I'll open it for you right now."
Dr. Lin was completely baffled. Was it really necessary to be so conflicted about whether or not someone was pregnant? The couple's expressions were so varied; she couldn't understand it at all.
Holding the bill, the two of them helped each other out.
There will be no results today, and the two of them went back to their respective workplaces to return to work after their leave.
Yu Yin sat in the chair, her mind in turmoil. If she was really pregnant, should she keep the baby or not?
At this point, it seems no one has an abortion without a reason; people usually give birth when they're pregnant. If you don't want the baby, not only will people around you gossip, but your family and relatives will also ask questions. Even if you ignore all that, won't an abortion at this time harm your body?
"What are you thinking about, Xiaoyu? Your brow is so furrowed, it could trap a fly!"
Sister Wang was puzzled. Ever since Xiao Yu came in and sat down, he had been looking serious with his brows furrowed. Had something serious happened?
"Look at what Sister Wang is saying, that it can even kill flies? That's too exaggerated!"
"Sister Wang, I have a question for you. If you were pregnant now, would you still have the baby?"
Yu Yin stared at Sister Wang, waiting for her answer.
"Have one, what else can we do? We already have one!"
Sister Wang was baffled by the question: what else can you do if you have a child but don't have another one?
This is a normal reaction for people in this era: if you have a child, just have another one; which family doesn't have three or five children?
"But we already have several children. How will we take care of another one?"
Yu Yin found caring for both children at home quite tiring. Although it wasn't like in later years where she could physically massage or hold them, it still required a lot of energy.
"The older ones take care of the younger ones, isn't that how it's always been?"
Sister Wang was completely baffled by Yu Yin's actions. Isn't it the norm these days for older children to take care of younger ones, and for younger children to go to daycare?
The generation gap, a gap spanning decades.
Nowadays, children are raised freely. They're let out in the morning and come back on their own when they're hungry. Adults don't need to worry much; the only concern is whether there's enough food. A half-grown boy can eat his father out of house and home.
The two people, separated by decades, could not reach a consensus and could not continue.
Yu Yin rallied herself. No matter what, life had to go on. She decided to stop thinking about it and deal with it tomorrow.
"Mom, why are you unhappy?"
On the way home, Pingping noticed that her mother was in a low mood and asked her with concern.
Yu Yin was surprised. She had tried her best to control herself, so how could Pingping have noticed?
Looking at An'an's bewildered expression again, Yu Yin could only sigh at the difference in the two children's personalities.
"I'm not upset, I'm just wondering if Ping An An might want a younger brother or sister?"
An'an answered first, quickly and urgently.
"Yes, yes, I want a younger brother and sister, so they can be my soldiers and I can be the commander."
Yu Yin wanted to cover her head in disbelief. Her daughter's dream of becoming a commander had come true!
I turned to look at Pingping, wondering what answer I would get.
"As long as it's not like Chu Chen's younger brother who cries all the time, I want it, and I can help my mom keep an eye on him."
Pingping was deeply impressed by Chu Laosan's crying; he could cry so much.
"Mom, do you have a younger brother and sister? Where are they? When are you going to bring them home? Are you going to dig them out of the latrine or pick them up from the garbage dump?"
An'an asked curiously, wanting to know where children come from?
"?"
Yu Yin looked completely bewildered. What was going on?
“An’an, who told you that your younger brother and sister came from those places?”
"Oh, isn't that right? That's what Fatty and Dog Egg's mother told them."
Little Fatty and Dog Egg are friends at An'an Nursery School.
"Yes, I've heard them mention it too."
Pingping proved that An'an wasn't lying; he had heard it too.
Once the mother and her two children arrived home, the topic was dropped. Otherwise, Yu Yin would have had to think carefully about how to explain the origins of the child to them!
Nowadays, people find it difficult to talk about matters between men and women, especially with children; it's a taboo subject.
Thinking about the picture books that are everywhere in later generations, such as "Our Bodies" and "The Mystery of the Body"... there are so many, clearly and interestingly describing how children are formed.
But then I thought about my drawing skills and decided against it.
"You three are a bit late today, my dinner is almost ready."
Lu Shurui, wearing an apron and carrying a bowl and chopsticks, came out. The man in the apron looked really handsome; a good family man.
"Ah, dinner's ready! I'm so hungry, Daddy, I love you!"
After putting down her schoolbag, An'an ran to wash her hands.
