We passed the first day of the Lunar New Year peacefully, and no one caused any trouble!
The second day of the Lunar New Year is usually the day when people go back to their parents' home.
Yu Yin called her father and they chatted about their recent situations, finding out that they were both doing well.
When Yu Yin finished tidying up the house before the New Year, she wrote to her father and told him her address. Her father was happy that they had been admitted to university and bought a house, and he even wired Yu Yin one hundred yuan.
Yu Yin also sent things to her father and Yu Kang, including food and other necessities; she prepared quite a lot.
I also wrote to my husband and Yixian. My husband's twin sons are very energetic, and the couple is exhausted. My husband even wrote a letter to complain about it.
Sister-in-law Yu was the most interesting; her letters kept getting longer and longer, and she even complained that before her mother and the others went back, she and Yu Qing got along quite well, and she thought Yu Qing was pretty good. Unexpectedly, once the mother and daughter got together, their ideas just kept coming one after another, and she felt like she was about to explode…
The letter also included New Year's gifts for the children and housewarming presents for them.
The days after the New Year were spent receiving and sending letters and packages to and from friends.
Before we knew it, it was already the eighth day of the first lunar month.
After dinner that day, Mr. Lu came over. The children greeted their grandfather and then went upstairs to read.
"Dad, have you eaten?" Yu Yin knew about the separation of the family property between Lu's father and Lu Shukang, as her sister-in-law had told her.
Lu's mother felt that Lu's father was heartless; this wasn't just about separating from Yu Shukang and the others, it was about breaking up with her and showing his disdain for her. For some reason, clinging to the family savings, she absolutely refused to separate from Yu Shukang and the others.
Mr. Lu had no choice but to move out on his own. He stopped giving his salary to Mrs. Lu, and he didn't even know how much money was left in the family. He gave it all to Mrs. Lu.
The two were living separately, and Lu's mother moved to the small house.
Yu Yin listened but didn't offer any opinion; she wasn't interested.
"I've already eaten." Mr. Lu was too embarrassed to say anything to Yu Yin and the others, feeling ashamed. He had come this time to discuss his four children's schooling.
"Pingping and An'an's paperwork is all done. They'll be starting second grade again, but they'll have to take an exam. Before school starts, let them see the textbooks from Shanghai, which are different from the ones they used before."
Mr. Lu was quite thoughtful; he brought all the textbooks with him.
"Quickly and slowly transfer them to the nursery at Shanghai University. It's full of faculty and staff children, and the environment is quite nice. I've already made arrangements. Before the university starts classes, I'll send them there to register." Mr. Lu contacted one of his classmates who happened to be in charge of this; otherwise, it would have been really difficult to arrange.
Mr. Lu had worked at the Education Bureau for many years and held a fairly high position. This time, the issue of his child's schooling was largely thanks to his connections.
In particular, daycare centers that operate on a fast or slow pace are not open to the public.
With the child's schooling issue resolved, Mr. Lu didn't linger; he had to rush back as it was getting late.
After seeing off Mr. Lu, Yu Yin and Lu Shurui talked about what would happen after school started and the arrangements for the children.
"Dad said that Kuai Kuai and Man Man don't need to be picked up at noon. They can eat at the daycare center and the meal fee can be paid. But what about Ping An and Man?" Yu Yin and Man Man also have to attend school, so it's not realistic for them to rush back after school to cook lunch.
Ping An and An An will not be eight years old for several months, and Yu Yin does not want them to become key children.
It's too dangerous to let children wear keys around their necks, open the door to go home by themselves after school, and cook their own meals.
“I’ve also thought about this. I was thinking, why don’t we find a nanny to help take care of the children?” Lu Shurui couldn’t think of any good ideas either. This was also the reason why he had urged Yu Yin to study hard. They had to both pass the exam, otherwise one person couldn’t take care of four children.
"Is it easy to find an nanny? I can't trust anyone I don't know." Yu Yin had seen too many stories of nannies abusing and stealing children in later generations, and she was a little worried.
"Shukang, what do you think about having Grandpa and Grandma come and stay with us? With them looking after things, we can feel more at ease hiring a housekeeper." This was something Yu Yin had been thinking about for several days. She had this idea when she saw An'an and her great-grandmother discussing planting flowers and vegetables.
“That’s fine, but I’m worried you won’t be used to living with your grandparents.” Lu Shurui had also considered having his grandparents move in to help take care of the child, and he could also take care of them. He was a little worried about them because they were getting old.
"Grandpa and Grandma are fine, I like them." The underlying message is that no one else will do.
Lu Shurui understood Yu Yin's meaning; his mother couldn't be a mother. He agreed with this point; his mother was his responsibility, not Yu Yin's.
The two of them had already discussed it, but they still needed to get the grandparents' opinions.
The next day, the two took the child to Grandpa Lu's house.
The elderly couple had already eaten breakfast and were taking a stroll in the alley.
"You've arrived?"
Grandpa and Grandma Lu were in a good mood when they saw the family of six.
"Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma, I'm going to go train my soldiers first, and then I'll chat with you later, okay?" An'an is still clinging to her dream of becoming a commander, and she continues to follow Chu Jianguo's instructions, while Pingping hasn't forgotten to train.
"Go ahead, go ahead, they came looking for you yesterday."
The three children ran out, and Yu Yin and the others went back inside and sat by the window, basking in the sun like lazy kittens.
Grandma Lu brought a glass of warm water and placed it next to Manman. She patted Manman's head and said, "So cute!"
"Grandpa and Grandma, I've come today to discuss something with you." Grandpa and Grandma Lu looked at Shu Rui, who seemed a little hesitant, wondering what he wanted to say.
"School is about to start, and we've already found schools for the kids. There's just one problem: no one's home. If Ping An comes back at noon, there's nowhere for her to eat."
