People are busy being pushed along by time, and when they look up again, it's the end of the semester!
Yu Yin and her roommates were busy preparing for their final exams, rushing to the library every day to grab seats, but nine times out of ten they came back empty-handed, as there were many people more diligent than them.
Fortunately, Yu Yin doesn't stay overnight, so there's no problem with lights being turned off at a certain time.
Lu Shurui is very relaxed. Reading is his only hobby. He is very thorough in all his studies and doesn't have the trouble of reviewing for exams.
So, I've been completely in his care during this time.
After Yu Yin finished her last exam, she let out a long sigh of relief. "Is it because I'm getting old? Studying is really not easy!"
Exhausted, I walked home to find the family preparing a barbecue in the yard to celebrate my mother finishing her exams.
Well, you can't compete with the genes of academic geniuses!
"Mom, come quick! The meat skewers are ready!" An'an waved vigorously at Yu Yin with one hand while holding a grilled meat skewer in the other.
"It's here, it smells amazing!"
A cool breeze blew in, carrying a hint of moisture, which was quite comfortable.
Grandpa and Grandma each had a rocking chair, their eyes half-closed in contentment as they watched the children eat with gusto.
"Grandpa, try this." Yu Yin handed over a skewer of bean curd rolls with cilantro, brushed with a local sauce that wasn't very salty and had a hint of sweetness.
"Mmm, delicious. A little more sauce would be perfect." Grandpa usually pays great attention to health and eats very light meals.
Barbecue is only delicious when it's strong in flavor, and even Grandpa couldn't resist the temptation!
When Lu Shuqi's family arrived, Yu Yin and her family had already finished eating.
"Sister-in-law, the barbecue is ready." I could smell it even before I came in.
"Your nose is still working quite well; we're almost done here."
Yu Yin brought over stools and invited her third uncle and aunt to sit down.
"You ate early, we arrived at the normal time!" Lu Shuqi felt so wronged!
"Alright, your crying is so fake. There's still some in the kitchen. Ask your brother to bring some more over, and you can bake it yourself." Yu Yin and he were very casual with each other.
"Uncle, let me grill for you, I'm really good at it." An'an quickly raised her hand to show that she was addicted to grilling.
"It has to be my eldest niece. Thank you so much, Uncle. To express my gratitude, I'll teach you English this summer." Lu Shuqi is an English major and is quite good at it.
“That’s a good idea. We’ll be using English more and more in the future. Shuqi, if you have time, teach them. And Zhuangzhuang and Duoduo too. Whether you’re herding one sheep or a flock, it’s all the same.” Yu Yin was thinking further ahead. Shanghai, a future international metropolis, English is really, really important.
"No problem, I'll relax for a few days first." Lu Shuqi thought that he had been studying hard from dawn till dusk for the exam, so he needed to get a good night's sleep for a few days.
“Okay, I’m free anyway, I’ll learn too.” Lu Shurui was interested in all kinds of learning.
“Okay, my second sister is about to give birth, I’ll go help her, you stay home and look after the baby.” My second sister’s due date is in the next few days, and Yu Yin is free, so she can go and help take care of her.
When the second batch of skewers was ready, Mr. Lu pushed open the door and came in.
"Grandpa, come and eat some kebabs." An'an's little face was covered in ash, streaks of which made everyone want to laugh.
"What kind of kebabs? Father Lu has never had them before." He walked over to An An to see what they were.
After An'an stuffed a skewer of grilled mushrooms into his mouth, Mr. Lu sat next to his elderly father, holding the skewer, hesitant to eat.
"Eat up, it tastes great!" Grandpa Lu encouraged him; he had come to love barbecue.
"Delicious!" After a long silence, Mr. Lu took a bite without hesitation. "Mmm, delicious!"
He slowly chuckled.
She gradually grew to like her grandfather, who would patiently accompany her in paper cutting. This was something Yu Yin and the others hadn't expected; Mr. Lu was actually quite skilled at paper cutting.
For the past six months, Mr. Lu has come over whenever he has time. He has a good relationship with the children and treats them all equally without showing favoritism. The children love their grandfather.
From time to time, An'an's loud laughter and Lu Shuqi's screams could be heard from the courtyard; he had burned the meat skewers again.
Shuyun is a quiet girl who would take care of Manman from time to time and wipe Kuaikuai's mouth. The children also liked to be close to this gentle little aunt.
The moon rises above the willow branches, and we meet after dusk!
The family gathered around a campfire, eating, drinking, playing, and having fun...
Grandpa Lu and Grandma Lu feel that their health has been getting better and better recently, and they wonder if it's because they are in a good mood.
Yu Yin didn't know if the spiritual spring water still had any effects. Her family had been drinking it for years, but they hadn't noticed any significant effects. The only thing was that her children were in very good health and rarely got sick. Even Manman, who didn't like to exercise, rarely caught a cold or fever.
A few days later, Grandpa took the children to visit an old friend. Yu Yin prepared Yunnan specialties such as tea, dried mushrooms, and dried bamboo shoots, which were carried by Lu Shurui.
My grandfather's old friend used to be a professor at an art academy, and he was also influenced during those ten years.
Now, I'm retired at home, with nothing much to do, and my children aren't around.
After being observed by Professor Grandpa, the four children gradually showed talent in painting and were able to sit still for long periods. If the children are interested, we can nurture them in this direction.
Ping An An's ambitions don't lie here; she can learn it as a hobby, but Kuai Kuai really can't sit still and has no interest at all.
Yu Yin heard what Lu Shurui said when he came back, and after asking a few children, she realized they were gradually starting to like it, especially traditional Chinese painting, and she wanted to learn it. Pingping and An'an weren't very interested; they preferred calligraphy to painting.
Kuai Kuai doesn't like anything, but since his older brothers and sisters are all learning, he wants to follow suit and learn calligraphy.
