Chapter 170 Mid-Autumn Festival Gift Boxes Sell Well

Yu Yin and Lu Shurui discussed and worked through the night to develop a Mid-Autumn Festival event plan, focusing on a high-end approach – gift boxes.

Yu Yin asked Zhao Tong to contact a printing factory and produce two batches of gift boxes. They were the same size, but the designs were slightly different.

This time, a lot of pomelos arrived. Yu Yin and the others peeled and tasted them. They tasted good, sweet and sour, and were very fresh with no obvious damage.

Yu Yin and her colleagues worked overtime to select 600 intact pomelos to pack into gift boxes.

There are two types of gift boxes. One type contains a pomelo, a packet of tea, two monkey head mushrooms, and a packet of brown sugar. The other type contains a pomelo, a packet of tea, a tea cake, and a packet of tobacco.

Yunnan Province grows a large amount of tobacco, which belongs to the state. However, in various villages, many elderly people grow their own tobacco plants in front of and behind their houses for their own family use. They have a skill in processing tobacco, no less than the master craftsmen in state-owned factories.

Yu Yin noticed a small amount of dried tobacco in the order and had an idea. She added it to the gift box.

There wasn't much tobacco, so Yu Yin bought some straw paper and made small paper bags, each containing only about 1.5 ounces of tobacco, selecting only whole, unbroken pieces.

At this point, Yu Yin and her team had prepared six hundred gift boxes. They posted flyers and placed samples at the entrance, one box of each type, which were then opened and arranged for easy viewing.

Limited Mid-Autumn Festival special gift boxes available, first come first served, 600 boxes, while supplies last!

At first, many people didn't understand what it meant, so Huang Shan stood outside and explained. Many people who needed to visit relatives and friends during the Mid-Autumn Festival became interested and picked out their favorite gift boxes. A gift box cost 19.9 yuan, which wasn't cheap, but it was classy enough.

At first, Liang Chao and his colleagues were worried that Yu Yin had set the price too high and that it wouldn't sell well. They had to understand that a worker's monthly salary was only thirty or fifty yuan, while this gift box was equivalent to half a month's wages for some people.

In later generations, all sorts of gift boxes priced at 999 were everywhere. But what was their actual value? People were just buying them for the sake of appearances. Yu Yin firmly believed they would sell very well.

On the first day, a few were sold sporadically, and on the second day, more than a dozen were sold. Except for Yu Yin, everyone else was very worried.

On the third day, the number of people buying gift boxes suddenly increased, with eight out of ten people entering the store specifically for the gift boxes.

Everything needs time to prove itself. The gift box may be good, but it also needs time to develop and be known by more people before it can be sold.

By the day before the Mid-Autumn Festival, all the gift boxes were sold out, and even the two samples displayed at the entrance were snapped up.

At that moment, everyone, including Liang Chao, felt deep admiration for Yu Yin and saw hope, realizing that their job was no worse than working in any factory.

Apart from Liang Chao, the other four people all receive a basic salary of 30 yuan, with bonuses calculated separately.

30 yuan is not a small amount. Many regular employees in small factories earn only 30 yuan a month, and temporary workers or apprentices earn even less.

The gift boxes are selling very well now, and other products are also selling very well, especially those fruits.

The pomelos that were left over after sorting, although they had some minor damage, did not affect their taste and sold the best.

Jackfruit is something many people haven't tried; some dislike its taste, while others love it. Nowadays, there's such a limited variety of fruits that people will buy them regardless of personal preference.

Throughout September, Yu Yin calculated her turnover to be a little over 30,000 yuan. After deducting all costs, Yu Yin's net income was 12,000 yuan.

Lu Shurui was startled, never expecting that these odds and ends costing only a few cents per kilogram could generate such a large profit.

Yu Yin knew that she was just benefiting from the times. At that time, resources were scarce and transportation was inconvenient. The cost of acquiring many things was very low, and the high price was due to transportation.

Yu Yin thought that she should seize the opportunity to accumulate some funds in the next few years to prepare for the future.

The Mid-Autumn Festival gift boxes sold well, and Yu Yin didn't let her employees down either.

The special Mid-Autumn Festival gift boxes were no longer available, but Yu Yin asked Liang Chao to use the existing gift boxes to pack two gift boxes for each employee, including Liang Chao, so they would look nice when they took them home for the holiday.

Yu Yin also gave each employee a 50 yuan red envelope, a decision she made together with Liang Chao. Liang Chao's red envelope couldn't be 50 yuan; Yu Yin gave him 500 yuan.

After the store opened, Yu Yin barely got involved; Liang Chao managed it all. In Liang Chao's words, "If I have this value, you won't treat me unfairly," and Yu Yin lived up to that.

In addition to gift boxes, Yu Yin also asked Liang Chao to buy mooncakes, and reserved a portion of pineapples and pomelos from the store for everyone.

After tidying up the shop and locking the door in the evening, everyone happily went home with their perks and red envelopes, knowing that the festival was tomorrow.

"Hey, you guys have been handing out a lot of stuff, haven't you?"

When Liang Chao carried the things in, his family was quite surprised. They never expected that a small, individually-owned shop could provide employee benefits.

"Guan Yue, keep one of the gift boxes and send it to your father-in-law and his family tomorrow. There are also other things; choose half and give the rest to our parents."

Since Liang Chao returned from his injury, there have been many things going on at home. His sister-in-law and brother's wife have been subtly criticizing them.

Liang Chao wasn't exactly easygoing either. During his many years in the army, he hadn't taken care of his parents at home, nor had he accepted much of their financial support. Therefore, he lived with a clear conscience in front of his older and younger brothers, relying on himself rather than his family's resources.

After listening to Liang Chao's words, Guan Yue divided the items in two, taking their share back to their room.

"Mom, consider the rest as my Mid-Autumn Festival gift to you both. You can decide how to distribute it."
