Chapter 185 The Children's Cheers

Yu Yin and Lu Shurui bought new locks and locked the door again. The big house they had always dreamed of finally belonged to them!

"Lu Shurui, we really bought a big house, right?"

"Yes, Ms. Yu Yin!"

"Ah...haha..."

After a good laugh, the two of them, covered in soot, went home, ignoring the stares and whispers of passersby.

That house has been uninhabited for a long time; the water and electricity have been cut off. I need to find time this afternoon to go to the neighborhood committee to complete the necessary procedures.

Back home, the two washed up, ate a bowl of noodles at the street corner, and then rushed to the new house.

"Let's go to the neighborhood committee to complete the formalities and restore the water and electricity first. We'll talk about the rest later."

"Okay, let's do it this way."

I went to the neighborhood committee where the house was located, showed all the supporting documents, and registered.

"Go back and wait. We'll arrange it for you in the next couple of days. First, make sure the water and electricity in the room are turned off, so there won't be any accidents if the water is turned on."

"Okay, Director Zhang, thank you for the reminder."

After leaving the neighborhood committee, Lu Shurui and Yu Yin returned to the villa to check that all the water and electricity switches in the house were turned off.

"Yu Yin, what do you think we should do with our yard? Should we lay down lawn or turn over the soil and plant vegetables?"

"I'm thinking of planting vegetables. I plan to plant the seeds from the space outside little by little to see how the quality and yield are. There are also fruit trees; there are quite a few saplings in the space right now."

Yu Yin plans to build her own farm, grow unmodified seeds, and see if the taste remains the same, to produce organic products. Now, chemical fertilizers and pesticides are gradually emerging.

"I'll bring the kids over on a day off and see what they think."

Yu Yin believes that involving children in family matters will strengthen the family's cohesion and enhance the bond between family members.

Lu Shurui also agreed with Yu Yin's point of view. They occasionally had disagreements about their child's education, but they would not argue in front of the child, nor would they take turns managing or blocking each other. They tried their best to reach a consensus so that their child would not be confused.

The two sat on a bench in the yard, looking up at the sky. The blue sky and white clouds made even the wind feel sweet!

No one spoke; they quietly enjoyed it all, something they had worked so hard to achieve.

"Alright, let's go. We can't move into this house anytime soon, and we don't have time to oversee the renovations. There's a lot of stuff inside, so we're not in a rush. We'll oversee the renovations during the summer vacation." Lu Shurui pulled Yu Yin up, who was drowsy from the sun.

“Okay, when we have time, we’ll find someone to tidy up the yard and plant some vegetables. We also need to find a live-in nanny so the kids won’t be home alone after school. We also need to plan out the house we’re living in now…” Yu Yin had too many plans, but she didn’t have the time. They were about to start their final exams.

Liang Chao asked Huang Shan's brother to help repair the house because he was in a hurry to move.

Yu Yin didn't have time and decided to wait until summer vacation to discuss everything. It was already mid-June, and there were only a few days left.

During this time, Lu Shurui went to the villa twice to confirm that the water and electricity were connected and tested the water supply, which was also confirmed to be working properly.

This is so convenient! No more queuing to empty the spittoon. Although Lu Shurui grew up in a lane alley, he was used to the freedom of using public toilets during his ten years in Yunnan Province. In the two years since he returned, he has found it difficult to adjust to using public toilets.

After a grueling final exam period, Yu Yin walked out of the exam hall in a daze. With the last exam finished, they were finally going on vacation. This was their last summer vacation; next year at this time, they would graduate and report to their workplaces.

When Yu Yin returned home, all four children were there, but Lu Shurui had not yet returned.

"Kids, what would you like to eat tonight?"

"Mom, should we eat at home or go out?"

An'an wants to eat at the food stalls outside; just thinking about it makes her mouth water.

What does An'an want to eat?

"I want to eat at a street food stall."

"I want to eat too, brother, Manman, do you want to eat?"

We need to find allies quickly, since Mom doesn't usually let them eat at outside food stalls.

"Is it okay, Mom?"

Pingping and Manman also wanted to eat, and they both looked at their mother.

“Okay, let’s go eat at the food stalls today.” Yu Yin made the final decision, which drew cheers from the children.

"Wow, long live Mom! We love you!"

Even Pingping, who usually seems very composed, was cheering with joy. It seems that the snack stalls have boundless appeal!

When Lu Shurui returned, she was warmly welcomed by the children, leaving them completely bewildered, wondering when she had become so popular.

"You're overthinking it. Your daughter and son are waiting for you to come back; they want to go eat at a food stall."

Yu Yin shattered Comrade Lu Shurui's illusions, and the whole family burst into laughter.

"Dad, let's go quickly, my stomach is rumbling."

Quickly, An'an and her father grabbed his arm and pulled him outside.

"Wait a minute, let Dad put down the book and change his clothes."

Urged on by his daughter and son, Lu Shurui quickly changed his clothes, and the family headed to the food stall.

In 1980s Shanghai, there were no urban management officers. In the evenings, there were many food stalls along the roadside, and you could smell their unique aromas from afar.

Popcorn vendors, sugar figurines, and a group of children gathered around. The aroma of pan-fried buns wafted over, and Yu Yin and An An simultaneously sniffed, their actions in sync, which made Lu Shurui burst into laughter.

"Mommy, xiaolongbao!" Manman was unusually excited; xiaolongbao is her favorite food. There's even a rhyme about eating xiaolongbao: "Lift gently, move slowly, open a window first, then sip the soup."

Yu Yin and her friends bought pan-fried buns, ate xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), and bought tiger paw-shaped pastries and sesame balls... They strolled from one end to the other until their stomachs were completely full. They walked home slowly, their bellies bulging, because they were too full.
