The women had a carefree day and didn't return to their residential compound until the afternoon.
Yu Yin and Lu Shuyun went back to the guesthouse for a short nap, as they were going to have roast duck for dinner.
The children haven't come back either; I wonder what they'll be playing with.
When Lu Shurui returned, Yu Yin was still asleep.
He went to wash up first, glanced at his watch, and realized it was almost time to wake Yu Yin.
"Yinyin, it's time to get up."
"Oh, you're back. I didn't expect this red wine to have such a strong aftereffect. Just one glass and I'm completely dizzy."
Yu Yin sat up; Lu Shuyun was no longer in the room.
Where is Shuyun?
"She's been up for a while now; she's probably out for a stroll."
Lu Shurui pulled Yu Yin up and told her to tidy up, as they were going to have dinner later.
Yu Yin washed her face with cold water and felt instantly sober. She realized she couldn't hold her liquor well and should never drink again.
After changing their clothes, the three of them walked out of the guesthouse and saw a group of people walking towards them in the distance.
"Comrade Yu Yin, Comrade Lu Shurui, we meet again."
Captain Qiao hadn't changed much; he was clearly an elite soldier, and it was said that he already held a very high position. Yu Yin didn't know either; she had only heard Liang Chao mention him once.
"Captain Qiao, it's been a long time."
In the past two years, Yu Yin and her friends have been in contact several times because of the issue of veterans, so they are not too unfamiliar with each other.
“This is my wife, Zhuang Meixin. Meixin, this is the savior I was talking about, Yu Yin, and her husband.”
"Hello, I've often heard them talk about you. It's a pleasure to finally meet you today."
Captain Qiao's wife was clearly a good match for his mother, meeting her expectations perfectly.
Yu Yin was still lamenting to herself, "This isn't my fiancée. I've taken several hundred yuan from her for nothing. What a sin!"
Yu Yin and the others knew each other: Qian Weiguo, Wang Wenye, Yu Haiyang, and Jia Mengchen, all of whom had been sent-down youth in Yunnan Province. There were also a few others, some of whom were in the army and couldn't leave, and some of whom were in other places.
This group of people, plus more than a dozen children, ultimately required the use of a Liberation truck, otherwise the scene would have been too large.
The roast duck restaurant booked a room in advance, specifically for the children. Captain Qiao's son is even younger than Kuai Kuai, and there is supposedly another child who is only three years old.
Lu Shuyun wasn't used to so many strangers, so she sat with the children.
Brother Yu has also finished get off work; everyone's here now.
"Taking this rare opportunity, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Comrade Yu Yin. It's not just for saving my life, but also for the work done by those veterans."
Captain Qiao led so many soldiers, and he himself couldn't remember the number of those who died or were wounded. He only wanted to do what he could to make their lives better. They shouldn't be forgotten, they shouldn't be despised, and they should live with dignity.
"Captain Qiao, you flatter me. There's only so much I can do; it's just a small favor. After all, I'm also a descendant of soldiers, and I grew up listening to bugle calls. Besides, they earned their rewards through their own abilities, and they deserve them."
Yu Yin truly felt that way; without Liang Chao and the others, she wouldn't be able to relax so easily.
"Alright, we're all family here, let's skip the formalities. Yinyin, do your job well. If you ever have an opportunity or need more people in the future, just come to us. Our unit has no shortage of people."
Yu Jun chimed in, saying that her daughter Yinyin was kind-hearted, but just not used to being praised.
"Alright, let's help each other out in the future. We know each other well, so it's a good relationship. We'll help each other out, and it'll be hard to keep track of who's better."
Chu Jianguo, being an elder, spoke frankly, which eased the atmosphere somewhat.
Yu Yin isn't actually very good at interpersonal relationships. Although she used to speak to relatives in a way that suited them perfectly, she was still an introverted person at heart, somewhat insecure and timid.
Yu Yin and Yu Jun are twins, but their personalities are completely opposite. She doesn't like to talk and is slow to react. She got better later, but she still doesn't like crowded places.
We've known each other for so many years and have a certain understanding of each other, so I won't bother with formalities. Let's talk about our work and local customs.
"Sister Yu Yin, I heard that your business is doing well. I plan to not work in the system after graduation and want to start my own business as well."
Qian Weiguo studied economics, and he wanted to start his own business.
Everyone's attention was focused on Yu Yin; she was experienced.
"Well, are you planning to start a factory or go into trade? There are still many restrictions in the current policies. If you have connections, you can go to the foreign trade department to learn for a while first."
Yu Yin felt that people like them with resources could learn more about business operations.
"If you're going to use connections to do some reselling, I think you should be cautious."
Yu Yin couldn't be too obvious with her words; she couldn't bear the responsibility. She only spoke up today because there were no outsiders present.
I've read some materials before. In the early days of reform and opening up, many second-generation rich kids took advantage of their family connections to get approvals and make a profit. In the end, when the crackdown came, how many of them were able to escape?
Yu Yin was just an ordinary person, not part of that circle. She ran a small business to provide her children with some material comforts so they could have more choices in the future. She never thought about doing something great or making a name for herself in history.
Apart from Yu Kang, everyone present was shrewd and understood without needing to spell things out.
"Thank you, Sister Yu Yin!"
"You're welcome. My husband, Lu Shurui, has repeatedly reminded me of this. He has read many books, and there are many examples from ancient and modern times that we need to learn from and also take as a warning."
Lu Shurui has read a lot of books, including those on law, business, humanities, and history... He has a wealth of theoretical knowledge.
