Not long after the start of the semester, the school began arranging internships.
Yu Yin is doing quite well; she was assigned to a public institution in the district where her family lives, working in the tax department.
Individual business licenses can be obtained this year, and Yu Yin already got hers. I don't know if public officials are allowed to engage in business now, but I'll worry about that later.
Yu Yin is quite satisfied with her internship. It's close to home, just a few bus stops away, and she doesn't need to transfer. The tax department isn't too busy right now, and their accounting department isn't very busy either. She can get to know some people in her spare time, although it's not easy, she'll try her best.
Zheng Yue and Yang Xiaomei, one got a job in the accounting department of the machinery factory and the other in the accounting department of the food factory. Chen Siting, who was in their dormitory, went directly to the foreign trade department, which was a highly sought-after unit, and you couldn't get in without connections.
As for the others, Yu Yin didn't pay much attention to them, and they hadn't had much contact in recent years.
Lu Shurui was assigned to an internship at a shipyard. His major was directly related to shipyards and machinery factories, but it was a bit far away. The factory seemed to be in Pudong, and it was a well-known shipbuilding company that had been established for a long time.
Lu Shuqi went to the foreign trade department; he studied English, a highly sought-after major. Lu Shuyun and Lu Shukang, the youngest daughter of Lu's uncle, both studied at teacher training colleges and were assigned to schools. As for Wang Mengyao, she went to a junior college and has already graduated and is working, but Yu Yin didn't pay attention to where she was.
Yu Yin had to report to her internship next Monday, so she only had three days left. She packed her books and luggage from her school dormitory and took them all home. She wouldn't have many opportunities to live in the dormitory anymore, as her home was nearby.
With the children all in school and Uncle Hu and Aunt Hu managing the household perfectly, Yu Yin didn't need to worry about anything. After tidying up the things she had brought back, Yu Yin got up and went to the mall. She was about to start her internship, so she needed to buy herself some new clothes, and she would also buy a few for Lu Shurui.
Shanghai in the early 1980s was at the forefront of fashion, and many things were quite trendy. Fashion is a cyclical thing. I remember that many fashion trends in later generations borrowed many elements from the 1980s.
Yu Yin chose two shirts and two pairs of pants for herself. On the first day, a white shirt, black pants, and black leather shoes would be a safe bet. She also picked out a classic trench coat, which she could wear when it got colder in a few days.
She went to the men's clothing section again and bought Lu Shurui a white shirt and a wool vest with a beautifully knitted pattern. She also picked out a long cardigan for herself. Since her family didn't need any more clothes, Yu Yin didn't need to buy anything else and went home with her things.
For the remaining two days, Yu Yin didn't have any other activities. She had a meal with Zheng Yue and Yang Xiaomei and introduced them to her home. Having worked together for so long, Yu Yin saw no need to hide anything; everything she earned was through her own hard work.
Zheng Yue and Yang Xiaomei were still very grateful to Yu Yin, because with this sales channel, the people in their hometown were doing a little better. Specialty products could only find a market outside their hometown; within their own small area, they were just ordinary things.
It's their final year of university. After their internships end and they receive their diplomas, they'll go their separate ways, and it won't be easy for them to see each other again. Sitting on Yu Yin's terrace, the three of them enjoy some braised food made by Aunt Hu and a little beer, feeling quite relaxed!
Perhaps many years later, they will remember this afternoon, and this rare moment of leisure.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye, and Yu Yin and Lu Shurui were about to head to their respective battlefields.
Yu Yin is doing alright; she lives close to home, so nothing much has changed. Lu Shurui, however, is in a worse situation. His internship is too far from home, so he has to stay in the dormitory and only comes home once a week. Aunt Hu prepared some food for him, all of which will keep for a while.
The family of six set off early in the morning, and the large house immediately fell silent as the Hu couple began their work.
Once Yu Yin entered the workplace, she found the staff member in charge, handed over her identification, and had her identity verified before she could officially begin.
"Student Yu, your documents are complete. Now go to the accounting office on the second floor and report to Director Ding."
The personnel department staff handed Yu Yin a temporary work permit and told her to report for duty; her internship had officially begun.
"Hello everyone, I'm Yu Yin, the new intern. Is Director Ding here?"
Yu Yin entered the accounting office and saw busy people. No one paid any attention to her, so she had no choice but to bite the bullet and introduce herself.
"Intern, which school are you from?"
A woman with curly hair spoke up; at first glance, she looked like a small golden retriever.
"Shangda".
"Oh, a bright student! The director is in his office, you can go in by yourself."
Although their tone wasn't very friendly, they still pointed out the direction.
"Thanks!"
Following the direction her older sister had indicated, Yu Yin found the director's office and knocked on the door.
"Please come in."
"Hello Director Ding, I am Yu Yin, the new intern."
"I've received the notification. Don't be shy, come and sit down."
Behind the desk was Director Ding, a woman in her forties with neat short hair, exuding the air of a career elite.
Yu Yin has lived two lives, but she has never worked for a large company or a major public institution. Before, in Yunnan Province, she only worked on small-scale projects and did not have much work experience.
Yu Yin followed the instructions and sat down in the chair in front of the desk, unsure of what to do next.
"I've looked at your resume. You previously worked in accounting for a government department?"
"Yes, it's the county government of Yunnan Province."
Yu Yin answered methodically, without much small talk.
"Okay, study hard and get along well with your colleagues. I'll have an experienced colleague mentor you for a few days. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to work independently. It won't be too difficult for you."
