Chapter 230 Zhong Liang and Zhong Ling

When Yu Yin went over to take a look, it really was Huang Qiang and his group.

"Brother Huang, Brother Zhang, thank you for your hard work!"

"Yu Yin is always so polite. Aren't we here to make money?"

They had known Yu Yin for a long time and knew that she wasn't good at small talk and had a straightforward personality.

"Let's go and see the house we need to repair first, then determine the location of the pigsty, and how to get the canes."

Although Huang Qiang and his colleagues had been doing house repair work, it was all odd jobs, nothing big. Yu Yin's job was considered a relatively big one; if they were building more pigsties, she could work for quite a while.

Yu Yin and the others followed Uncle Hu to his house.

"Come in, this is it, an adobe house, but it's quite sturdy."

Yu Yin hadn't expected Uncle Hu's yard to be so big, with four main rooms and side rooms. Although they were all thatched houses, they were kept clean and tidy. This place was quite good as their base camp for clearing land.

"Brother Huang, what do you think we should do? The house will remain largely unchanged, but we need to see if the roof needs repairs. The courtyard wall and gate are the main structures, as we'll be parking cars there at night, so they must be sturdy."

"The house doesn't leak. I came back last year and had the roof repaired."

Uncle Hu meticulously repairs the house every year; it's their root.

Huang Qiang and Brother Zhang walked around the yard. The walls were low adobe walls and looked rather worn.

"The walls are made of bricks and cement, and they're built quite high. Brother Zhang said that we can use an old gate that we used to repair; it's sturdier than a regular iron gate, and it's cheaper."

"Okay, I'll trouble you with the gate, Brother Zhang. Take some measurements so the car can get in. We also need to build a shed to put the tractor and all the tools in there, otherwise they'll rust after the rain."

After thinking for a moment, Brother Zhang said, "The shed can also be made of wooden planks nailed together, and then covered with a tarpaulin. It's simple and practical."

Yu Yin didn't understand these things either, so she left them to people who knew the ropes. They were all familiar with each other, so they couldn't fool her. Besides, they would have a lot of work to do in the future, and it wasn't a one-off deal; they would have to work together.

"Okay, let's go check out the location of the pigsty and how to get the cane first. We'll talk to Brother Liang about the rest. I won't be coming over for now."

After things were mostly settled, Yu Yin and Lu Shurui went home together. They would get some clean clothes tomorrow, as Lu Shurui would be staying for a while. After plowing the fields, they still needed to plant soybeans and build a pigsty; Lu Shurui had drawn all the blueprints.

"Shurui, is there anything important you need to do before school starts?"

"Don't worry, it's nothing. I've learned a lot of lessons. I'll be helping out in the wasteland for a while."

The two exchanged a glance, and everything was understood without a word.

Once inside the courtyard, my second sister and her family were there.

"You two are really busy. If you don't come back soon, we'll have to go back."

"Looks like we got back just in time. We'll go back after dinner tonight. Starting tomorrow, Shurui will be busy in the wasteland for a while."

Yu Yin hadn't seen her second sister's family for quite a while; since starting work, her schedule had become much less flexible.

"How's the work in the wasteland going? Grandpa said he wants to go and see, but we haven't been able to help much."

"We've just started, so it won't be finished in a short time. Let's focus on the most important things and fix them little by little. Once Uncle Hu's house is finished in a few days, we'll send Grandpa and the others to visit for a few days. Hu Village is quite big."

Grandpa Lu and his second brother-in-law came out of the greenhouse and heard this. "When will it be fixed? I've never actually lived in the countryside before. I'll take the kids there to see it and experience life there."

"Okay, Brother Huang and the others just went there today, it'll be at least three or four days. Second brother-in-law, haven't you been on a business trip lately?"

The department store hasn't been affected much yet; it should be quite busy.

"I've changed jobs; I'm no longer doing sales."

The matter of my second sister's husband's job transfer was only recently finalized, and we haven't told Yu Yin and the others yet.

Which position did you transfer to?

"The deputy manager of the No. 1 Department Store is a little farther from home this time, but at least I won't be traveling so much. I'm getting tired of all the running around these years, and I've had enough of sitting in cars. I don't know if it's because I'm getting old, but I always feel exhausted."

Yu Yin understood that the car was moving too slowly at this time, and it was impossible to take a plane; a trip would take ten days to half a month. Moreover, the roads were not safe now, and her second sister was always worried when she went out.

"My brother-in-law has been promoted! Let's celebrate tonight and have a good meal."

So, we ate dinner early tonight, and the children and adults were all laughing and chatting.

Yu Yin thought to herself that this was the kind of everyday joy she had always wanted. She had been so lonely before, with so many roles missing in her life. Now, other characters had joined her, and it felt wonderful!

In the morning, Lu Shurui got up early, ate the breakfast made by Aunt Hu, took Uncle Hu's change of clothes, and went to the wasteland.

As Aunt Hu watched Lu Shurui's departing figure, a warm feeling welled up inside her. Old Hu had let go and could calmly face and accept the fact that his son was gone. Before, when he went back to visit the grave, he wouldn't go inside; he would stand outside the door.

"Aunt Hu, what are you looking at?"

"Get up. I just saw Shu Rui off and I'm so grateful. Your Uncle Hu can finally let go."

Yu Yin reached out and hugged Aunt Hu. It's not easy for either of them; both of their sons are gone.

In later generations, many elderly people who have lost their only child are from families where most families have only one child. But in this era, only children are very rare, practically nonexistent.

Although Aunt Hu and her family still have one daughter, it's practically the same as not having one.

"Grandma Hu, I'm hungry."

He ran downstairs quickly; he had been woken up by hunger.

"Mom, am I growing? I always feel hungry and can't seem to get enough to eat!"

The eight-year-old child is not short, but not very fleshy; she wondered where all the food went. Yu Yin thought for a moment; none of her four children were fat, but they weren't skinny either.
