Chapter 233 Uncle Hu's Daughter

Yu Yin followed Lu Shurui and listened to his introduction about the land reclamation and pigsty construction during this period.

"The new comrade Zhong Liang is quite capable. He handles things cleanly and efficiently, and is thorough in every aspect. Liang Ge and I admire him greatly. Liang Ge said that he will be in charge of logistics from now on, and no one can compare to him."

“Brother Liang has his advantages. He has relevant experience in the army. Not just anyone can do logistics. It has to be someone you can trust.”

The couple walked and talked until they reached the place where Huang Qiang was building a pigsty. The foundation had already been laid, and a group of people were working enthusiastically. Apart from Huang Qiang and a few others, the rest were villagers from nearby villages. Huang Qiang had negotiated the price, and he knew the market rate.

"Yu Yin is here. How is it? Is it the effect you wanted?"

Seeing Yu Yin approaching from afar, Huang Qiang came to greet her.

"Thank you for your hard work, Brother Huang."

Yu Yin walked up and took a closer look. The foundation was well done. Although she didn't understand it, she could tell with the naked eye that they had put in the effort. At least the stones were stacked neatly, and the sides were relatively tidy, not the kind that protruded outwards.

"Brother Huang, when you're applying the cement at the end, remember to leave out the drain outlet and the sewage channel."

"I know, Shurui marked the key points on the drawings, and I also wrote them down in my notebook."

Yu Yin had seen videos of pig farms from later generations, and they were very clean. Everyone said that pigs are clean animals. But this common perception is wrong. Pigs are not born liking dirt and mess; it's just that the environment hasn't been cleaned up.

Yu Yin didn't stay long, lest she miss her work.

The soybeans have already been planted, and the remaining wasteland has not yet been cleared. Yu Yin is not worried about this; she has already contacted Zheng Yue to ask her about the planting of pasture grass and the selection of cattle and sheep breeds.

“Let’s go visit Uncle Hu. Grandpa needs a rest. He wants to stay here for a few days, and since you’re here too, I agreed. You didn’t see how happy Grandpa was, like a child.”

"Yinyin, thank you!"

Lu Shurui knew that his grandparents were carefree and could do whatever they wanted like children, directly asking Yu Yin questions without any worries. He was lucky, very lucky!

"Let's go, we're husband and wife, family, love is mutual!"

Grandpa and the others had already gone home with Uncle Hu, and Yu Yin and the others went over after saying goodbye.

From afar, you can see that Uncle Hu's courtyard wall and gate have changed. The brick wall is about two meters high, and the heavy wooden door looks sturdy.

"Brother Zhang's craftsmanship is excellent; this door looks sturdy."

"Yes, it can be locked from both the inside and outside, and it's sturdier than a regular iron gate."

Pushing open the door to the courtyard, the children weren't there; they had gone out to explore the village. Uncle Hu had asked a neighbor's child to take care of them.

"Grandpa, how do you feel?"

"Okay, things are different in the city. I'll have to stay a few more days. You guys go back on your own."

Grandpa made another statement, reiterating his position.

"Okay, you can stay with Shurui. You can go back when you've had your fun."

Yu Yin and her grandmother smiled at each other; Grandpa looked adorable like this.

Aunt Hu and Zhong Ling had already started preparing lunch, and Yu Yin and her second sister went to help, leaving Shu Rui to accompany Grandpa and her second sister's husband.

Yu Yin glanced at Zhong Ling, and apart from feeling a little uncomfortable, there was no obvious difference.

"Zhong Ling, you can just help out in the kitchen. A bunch of grown men will be coming in soon, don't scare a little girl like you."

"Understood, Sister Yu Yin."

Zhong Ling secretly breathed a sigh of relief; with so many people, she still couldn't help but feel nervous.

The villagers who helped build the pigsty weren't provided with meals; they went home for lunch. Brother Zhang and Brother Huang, along with the two people they brought, ate and stayed at Uncle Hu's place.

There are four rooms. Uncle Hu will stay in one, Shu Rui will stay in another for the next few days, Zhong Liang will stay in another, and if Brother Liang isn't going back, he'll stay with Zhong Liang. The remaining room will be for Brother Zhang and the others; it's a large kang (heated brick bed) that can sleep several people.

The idea for this kang (heated brick bed) came from a story Hu's youngest son heard about from a comrade-in-arms in the north. After asking for instructions, the son wrote back to Hu. Hu was overjoyed and had kangs installed in all the rooms, wanting to surprise his youngest son.

However, the youngest son never had the chance to see these kang beds again; he died.

Uncle Hu couldn't bear to see these kang beds for a while, and it bothered him so much that he moved to a side room. But when he came back this time, he let it go and reconnected all the kang beds. This was his youngest son's thoughtful gift, and he couldn't let it go to waste.

“Your Uncle Hu has truly let go this time. What else could he do? The child is gone. The only thing we can do is live well so they can be at ease.”

Aunt Hu looked at her husband bustling around in the yard and felt much more at ease. They had to live well and see the changes in the country for their children, especially their youngest son, who was the country he had protected and given his life for.

The aroma of food was already wafting out, and the sputtering sound of a tractor was getting closer; the workers were returning from their jobs.

Yu Yin and the others put the table in the yard, where there was a spacious carport that Brother Zhang and his friends had built.

Zhong Liang and the others came in to wash their hands, but before the table was even set up, a group of uninvited guests arrived.

"Mom and Dad, I'm back to see you."

Everyone was drawn by the sound, wondering who it was and who they were calling "Mom" and "Dad."

"What are you doing here? I've already told you, from now on, I'll pretend I don't have a daughter like you, and we have nothing to do with each other anymore."

Uncle Hu became somewhat agitated, recalling how, after his youngest son's death, his daughter, as his older sister, not only showed no grief but also took advantage of his misfortune, making sarcastic remarks. He and his wife had always favored their only daughter, never expecting such an ending.

"Oh dear, in-law, we're family, no need for formalities. Your son is gone, and you only have this one daughter left. You'll be counting on my son and grandson to take care of you in your old age and see you off when you die!"
