Why Zhong Ling?
Yu Yin felt that Wu Dali was a calm and composed person with strong investigative abilities and quick reflexes. There must be some special reason why he contacted Zhong Ling again after their first meeting.
"It could be destiny, or it could be empathy."
Wu Dali looked up at the sky, recalling the events of that day, which were still vivid in his mind.
"That day, while helping an old lady catch a thief, I accidentally cut my hand. The reason I got cut was because I was distracted and saw Zhong Ling."
Could it be love at first sight? Yu Yin wondered to herself, but Wu Dali's expression didn't seem to suggest it.
"Sister Yu Yin, you know what? I didn't even get a clear look at Zhong Ling's face. It was just that in the crowd, her subconscious avoidance of men and her cowering expression reminded me of my sister. It really struck the deepest part of my memory."
Wu Dali blinked rapidly a few times to stop the tears from falling.
"When I saw Zhong Ling's reaction, I immediately thought of my sister's fear and terror back then. In that instant, I was like a wild god, cut by a knife. Later, Zhong Ling endured the discomfort, walked through the crowd, and helped me bandage my wound. I remembered this girl."
Yu Yin saw a smile on Wu Dali's face, though he probably didn't even realize he was smiling.
"Although I don't know what that kind girl went through, she bravely came through it and didn't take her own life. I want to know about her, I always think about her, and sometimes I think, how wonderful it would be if my sister could also bravely come through it."
A gust of hot wind blew by, making people feel sticky.
Yu Yin didn't know what words to use to comfort him. The pain of losing a loved one couldn't be healed by a few pale words.
"What are your plans for Zhong Ling? Do you want to have a serious relationship with her and eventually start a family, or is it just out of pity? Do you pity her for the bad things she might have encountered because you empathized with her because of your sister's situation?"
"At first, I felt sympathy and had an impulse to protect her because I hadn't been able to protect my sister. Somehow, I transferred my feelings to Zhong Ling. Later, as I got to know her better, I realized that she was a strong and brave girl. My feelings for her went beyond sympathy; I developed a different kind of affection."
Yu Yin sensed the sincerity in Wu Dali's words and analyzed his own inner thoughts.
"Have you ever considered whether you can truly accept what Zhong Ling went through?"
A wise person doesn't need to spell things out. Yu Yin didn't reveal what Zhong Ling had gone through, but she believed Wu Dali would understand her meaning.
"Sister Yu Yin, not to mention my sister's experience, I've been in the army for so many years, and I've heard, seen, and experienced so much. As long as a person is alive, nothing else matters."
Wu Dali looked at Yu Yin calmly, his eyes telling her that he was telling the truth.
“I understand. Zhong Ling is like my little sister, and I think she is a strong and good girl who deserves happiness. You also need to work hard to win Zhong Ling’s approval.”
"Thank you. Talking to you makes me feel much better. We've both been through a lot of misfortune, but I've overcome countless hardships and finally returned. Many of my comrades-in-arms are gone forever. I want to live a good life and carry on their legacy."
Yu Yin couldn't truly understand this kind of feeling; after all, she hadn't experienced it herself and couldn't claim to comprehend it.
The camaraderie among comrades is a bond that others cannot understand.
"Live each day to the fullest, and show your comrades the prosperity of our country, which you have protected with your lives. When you are surrounded by children and grandchildren, and your hair is gray, you can proudly tell your comrades that everything you sacrificed was worthwhile."
"Okay, Sister Yu Yin, thank you!"
Yu Yin patted Wu Dali's arm, intending to pat his shoulder, but unfortunately, Wu Dali was a bit too tall.
The two walked silently out of the park, parted ways at the intersection, one went back to the shop, and the other went home.
"Sister Yu Yin, you're back! How's the pigsty? Is my brother back too?"
"I went to see Wu Dali, would you like to hear about it?"
Zhong Ling's face flushed red instantly, and she lowered her head, not daring to look Yu Yin in the eye.
"She's shy. It seems our Zhong Ling has finally figured it out."
"sister……"
Zhong Ling felt her face getting hotter and hotter, and her heart was racing.
"You need to talk to your brother about this. If you really like him, then continue to get to know him. As for your concerns, you also need to muster up the courage to speak up. Being open and honest with each other is the best way to go in the long run."
"Okay, Sister Yu Yin, I'll talk to my brother. I hope he won't be scared."
At this time, Zhong Ling possessed a playfulness and vitality befitting her age.
I hope that the two wounded people can be understanding and supportive of each other, and start a new life together.
Yu Yin has done all she could; the rest is up to the parties involved. No one should interfere too much in another's life; one should only lend a hand when needed, and maintain boundaries, avoiding overstepping them.
A few days later, Zhong Liang had almost finished demolishing the old factory building and came to Yu Yin to report on the progress.
"Everything has been cleaned up, and the old bricks have been taken to the breeding farm. Tan Hui has also found a group of people, and the wall is half-finished."
"That's fast. The architect will be back in a few days. Let's go meet him and try to finalize the design. We also need to find a construction team. Huang Qiang and his team can't do it; we need professionals."
After discussing the work-related matters, Yu Yin asked Zhong Liang to go see Zhong Ling, who had been lingering outside the door for quite some time, indicating she was anxious.
"Sister Yu Yin, I'll go over and see what's wrong with this girl, why is she in such a hurry?"
"Go ahead, she hasn't seen you in a while and misses you."
Zhong Liang pulled Zhong Ling to her room. "So, what good news do you have to tell me, that you were in such a hurry to find me?"
"hehe……"
Zhong Ling was a little embarrassed and a little afraid that her brother would disagree, so she kept rubbing her hands together.
"Go ahead and tell me anything, you can tell your brother."
"Brother, I, I, I've started dating someone."
Zhong Liang felt as if a thunderbolt had exploded in his ear, making his ears ring and leaving him unable to recover for a long time.
"Brother, brother, what's wrong?"
Zhong Ling was terrified when she saw her brother not responding. She got up and wanted to go find Sister Yu Yin.
"It's nothing, I'm fine, I was just a little scared. How could you drop such a bombshell on me when I wasn't on guard at all?"
"I didn't know how to tell you this. I thought about it for a long time, but in the end I decided to tell you directly."
Zhong Ling didn't expect her brother to react so strongly, and she felt uncertain again.
"When did it start? What did they do? How far did their relationship go? He..."
"Brother, you asked so many questions at once, I don't know which one to answer first. I know you're worried about me, I'll talk to you in detail."
Looking at her brother like this, Zhong Ling suddenly felt less nervous. Her brother was her only family member and the one who loved her the most. There was nothing she couldn't tell him.
For the first time since the incident, the brother and sister had the idea of having an open and honest conversation.
