Jiang Qiao felt that Yu Yin's ideas were more advanced than most people's at the time.
In its pursuit of economic development and rapid international progress, the nation has neglected environmental issues, even when it is aware of them. However, Yu Yin, as a businesswoman, considers environmental pollution, which Jiang Qiao admires. This involves sacrificing some profits, and not a small amount.
"I've provided you with the design drawings. I have time tomorrow afternoon to go to the site and take a look before we can start preparations. Some of your ideas, Yu Yin, may not be feasible at this stage, but I'll find a way to resolve that."
"Thank you, Uncle Jiang. I can finally relax. There's one more thing I'd like to ask you for help with: could you recommend a construction team? This is such a big project; I'm afraid it can't be built without a professional team."
Although Huang Qiang and his team had done a lot of the work for Yu Yin and her team over the years, this time was different. They had to build a factory according to the blueprints, which was not something that Huang Qiang and his non-professional team could accomplish. They might not even be able to understand the blueprints.
"That's no problem. We have connections with many state-owned construction teams. I can recommend one to you. They often work with us and can guarantee quality and quantity."
"There are so many things I want to say thank you for, I don't know where to begin. Uncle Jiang, thank you, thank you for tolerating some of my ignorant or unreasonable requests, thank you!"
Yu Yin's gratitude was heartfelt. Many of the requests she made were classic cases for later generations, successful cases summarized from decades of failures.
She was very grateful that Uncle Jiang didn't scoff at her request or think she was being unrealistic, but instead earnestly helped her find a solution. This was quite rare in this era, perhaps because Uncle Jiang had studied abroad and had a more progressive mindset.
“No need to be polite. Personally speaking, your father-in-law and I have been friends for decades. From a business perspective, if your request is fulfilled, it will be a typical example of success, and it will also be a challenge and a rare opportunity for me. We are helping each other.”
Jiang Qiao declined Yu Yin's invitation to dinner, explaining that he was pressed for time and needed to further work on the design plans. Mr. Lu said they would meet again another time, and then led Yu Yin and the others out of the architectural design institute.
"Dad, it's noon. Let's find a restaurant nearby, eat there, and then go back."
"That works too. I'm a little hungry, so I can eat and then take a nap in the afternoon."
Yu Yin and her two friends went into a privately owned restaurant and ordered a few home-style dishes, which tasted pretty good. With the emergence of many private restaurants, state-run restaurants have been greatly impacted; after all, nobody wants to be treated badly when they're paying for a meal.
Many state-owned enterprises have gradually declined, and there are many reasons for this.
The collective spirit of the group, with their secure jobs, means they don't think too much about the work. They get the same salary no matter how much they do. Without a spirit of initiative, people easily become lazy. This complacent work attitude will eventually be crushed by the wheels of history and left far behind.
After finishing their meal, Yu Yin and the other two went their separate ways. Lu's father went home, Zhong Liang was going to check out the factory, and Yu Yin was going to find Lu Shuqi to ask about the sausage filling machine.
Lu Shurui was busy preparing for his doctoral entrance exam and participating in the university's internal recruitment exam, keeping him extremely busy. Even the most academically gifted person is still just a mortal, without superhuman abilities; things need to be done one step at a time, and Yu Yin didn't want him to be distracted.
"Sister-in-law, what brings you here?"
"I need to consult you about something. Would it be convenient for you to come out for a bit?"
The office was full of gossip, and Yu Yin didn't want things to get so messy before she even got anything done.
"Okay, sister-in-law, wait for me a moment. I'll tell my colleague, and we'll go sit at the teahouse up ahead."
After greeting her colleagues, Lu Shuqi went with Yu Yin to a teahouse near their workplace and booked a private room.
"Sister-in-law, you came here to ask about the sausage filling machine, right? My brother told me about it before, and I also inquired about it indirectly. The machine is from Japan, and it's not cheap. There's no record of anyone buying this machine in China yet."
Yu Yin was unfamiliar with the procedures and formalities of foreign trade in this era, and didn't know how troublesome it was to handle them.
"If we purchase this machine from Japan, will the procedures be complicated? What kind of certificates are needed? Our factory hasn't been built yet, and the building design drawings haven't been completed."
"The procedures are quite complicated. It might be easier if the local government where the factory is located intervenes. Also, there's an international trade fair next spring, which is a good opportunity."
“If that’s the case, it shouldn’t be a big problem. Wang Wenye will soon be working in the investment promotion department of the district where the factory is located. If he takes the lead, there shouldn’t be any issues. It’s a win-win situation.”
Yu Yin felt like she had a cheat code, especially when it came to building the ham sausage factory. Everything went smoothly, and it seemed like everything she needed came to her. Honestly, Yu Yin thought it was all very mysterious.
"What? Wang Wen is being transferred to that district too? That's quite a promotion! The investment promotion department is a key unit now, his future is bright!"
Lu Shuqi felt extremely envious. People with family backgrounds have a smoother path in life, and coupled with their own strong abilities, they can quickly leave those of them who have no resources or backgrounds behind.
Yu Yin understood Shu Qi's envy. There was nothing she could do; life wasn't a TV drama. They talked about equality for all, but in many things, equality was simply not possible.
Many parents think they can't let their children lose at the starting line, but the finish line that ordinary people strive to reach in their lifetime may be the starting line for many others.
