Lu Shurui and Yu Yin had cleaned up Grandpa's old house and replaced all the things with Grandma's old ones; they had moved everything over.
"We're home. Look how well Shurui and the others packed us up."
Grandpa took Grandma's hand and slowly walked into the house. Sunlight streamed in, making the room bright. On the windowsill were two pots of blooming flowers, both grown by Grandma herself, which Yu Yin had carefully moved over.
"Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Hu will come and keep you company. If you want to eat anything, just ask Aunt Hu to make it for you."
"I know, thank you for your help, Xiao Hu."
"It's no trouble at all. You're like my uncle and aunt, like family. What trouble could there be?"
There was a bed in the living room, which Aunt Hu was sleeping on. She didn't know if Grandma's condition could improve; judging from the doctor's tone, the chances were slim.
After settling the grandparents in, Yu Yin and her family left. The family arranged for someone to come and visit the two elderly people every day to keep them company.
"Mom, is Great-Grandma feeling better? Can we go see Great-Grandpa and Great-Grandma tomorrow?"
"Okay, you can rest tomorrow. Mom will take you there after breakfast. Great-Grandma is weak, so please be careful not to disturb her."
"Okay, Mom."
The children went back to their room with a worried look on their faces, thinking about what to bring their great-grandmother tomorrow to make her happy.
Yu Yin and Zhong Ling went to the kitchen to make dinner. Aunt Hu wasn't there, and Zhong Ling was a little overwhelmed by the task at hand.
"How are things going with Wu Dali lately? Have you told him about your situation?"
“I told him, and he said he didn’t care and felt sorry for me. We get along very naturally and easily, and I’m not afraid of crowds and men anymore. Although I’m still a little uncomfortable, it’s much better than before.”
Zhong Ling smiled contentedly as she spoke of the past she had previously avoided, seemingly having truly moved on.
"Zhong Ling, what do you like?"
"Sister Yu Yin, I don't understand what you mean?"
Yu Yin thought for a moment and realized that her question had been somewhat unclear.
"What I mean is, have you thought about what job you want to do in the future, and is there anything you want to learn? While you're young, learn a skill."
"Oh, that. I've wanted to open a pastry shop since I was little. I love making pastries, especially the cakes that are popular now. I find them amazing."
Zhong Ling doesn't have many memories of her mother, but there's always a figure in her mind, wearing an apron, making something in front of the cutting board. She can't remember if it's steamed buns or dumplings, but she always remembers the cutting board, the flour, and the dough. She wants to be able to wear an apron and make pasta dishes in the future.
"Have you ever thought about studying hard so that you can open your own cake shop in the future, make cakes and sell them, and realize your dream?"
"Is it okay? Can I do it?"
Zhong Ling had never thought about these things. She had only thought about working at Sister Yu Yin's house, where she felt comfortable and relaxed.
"Of course you can. You're not afraid of crowds anymore. After a while, you'll be no different from other people. You won't be scared by strange men or unconsciously shrink back. Then there's no problem."
"Then your brother will find you a place that specializes in teaching cake making. Once you've learned, you can open a bakery and become a boss."
Zhong Ling was captivated by the scene Yu Yin described. Could she really do it?
"Then I can't work here anymore, I'll miss you all."
"Silly girl, you can come visit often in the future. Your brother still needs to work for me. We're friends!"
My friend, Zhong Ling felt a warm glow in her heart; Sister Yu Yin was her friend!
With Yu Yin's encouragement, Zhong Ling was in a good mood and kept humming a song.
The next day, after breakfast, Yu Yin and Lu Shurui took the children to visit their grandparents.
"Great-Grandma, I'm here. Are you eager to come?"
"I've thought about it, I've thought about it all."
Grandma was very happy to see the children. She touched each of them with her hands and said, "They're so good. They've all grown up so well."
"Great-Grandma, this is a sachet I made for you. It contains mint. Hang it by your bedside to repel mosquitoes."
I slowly handed a sky-blue brocade sachet to my great-grandmother; she had made it all by herself.
"It's so beautiful, and it even has tassels!"
"Great-Grandma, this is a gift for you."
Quickly take out your own calligraphy brush and write "Get well soon." You've written it several times; this is the best one.
The children surrounded their great-grandmother, giving her gifts and telling her stories about school, which made the two elderly people laugh heartily.
"Aunt Hu, how is Grandma's appetite?"
"She doesn't eat much, has little appetite, and is getting weaker and weaker. Uncle Lu has been buying a lot of things these past few days, saying they're for Auntie, all for the funeral, and in double quantities."
Aunt Hu had actually realized that the old lady didn't have much time left.
"Who has been coming over recently? Has Third Aunt come?"
“She came once, but the old man wouldn’t let her in, saying that the old lady didn’t want to see her.”
Yu Yin understood that her grandmother's illness was more or less related to her third aunt. These days, the family was busy with her grandmother and no one brought up the topic. But it was hard to say what would happen in the future, especially given her grandfather's attitude.
"Okay, Aunt Hu, we'll have to trouble you these next few days. We'll try our best to come over. If there's any emergency, please call home."
"I know, your aunt has experience with this kind of thing."
Aunt Hu saw her parents-in-law off, and her two sons off too. Sigh, it's all tears when I talk about it.
Yu Yin hugged Aunt Hu; this incident was a scar in her heart.
In the following days, Yu Yin and Lu Shurui came over almost every day. Grandma visibly weakened and was almost always in a coma.
