The farm of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps was about four or five miles from Yu Yin's home. The two of them were carrying their child on their way home, and Lu Shurui didn't know what to say to comfort Yu Yin.
In fact, nothing can change the fact that has already happened; words seem too pale and powerless at this moment.
The only thing I can do is hold the child and silently stay by her side, without saying a word, just letting her know that I am always there for her.
Yu Yin spoke the original owner's hidden thoughts and shared her own experiences. When the two collided, it was like a volcanic eruption, blasting others and burning herself.
After arriving home, Yu Yin's mood had calmed down, and she no longer had a chance to feel depressed. The little one was hungry and was nuzzling against her chest, looking for food.
After putting the children down and leaving them in the care of their father, Yu Yin changed her clothes, washed her hands, and then wet the special towel used for wiping the granary. She cleaned the granary and was sweating from walking all the way.
Sitting back inside the blue mosquito net, with her little one suckling at her breast, Yu Yin felt that the wound in her heart wasn't hurting so much anymore.
The spiritual spring water can slowly regulate her body and heal her external injuries, but it has no effect on her internal psychological wounds.
After finishing their milk, the two little ones fell asleep. Yu Yin put up the mosquito net and went downstairs.
In the yard, Lu Shurui had already washed the diapers and other clothes and hung them out to dry, swaying in the wind.
On this rare fine day, Yu Yin took out the baby's diapers and clothes and hung them on the second-floor railing to dry and sterilize them.
In the 1970s, when medical facilities were underdeveloped, the mortality rate among children was very high.
Yu Yin considered everything she could and couldn't think of, paying close attention to the child's hygiene and diet.
Even now, because she is breastfeeding, Yu Yin cannot eat spicy or stimulating foods. No matter how hot the weather is, she insists on drinking soup frequently to ensure her child has enough milk. Clothes and diapers are washed as soon as they get wet and are often sun-dried.
Sister Wang said she was too particular. Children are easier to raise if they're not clean. If all children were like Yu Yin, the couple would be exhausted.
Regardless of how others raise children, Yu Yin and Lu Shurui stick to their own methods and pace. The results are quite good; the newborn monkey has successfully transformed into a healthy and adorable human baby!
Meanwhile, when Mr. Yu returned home, the lights were off, and he assumed no one was home.
When I turned on the light, I was startled to see my mother sitting in the living room.
"You're home? Why didn't you turn on the lights? You startled me!"
"Oh, you're off work? What time is it?"
"What's wrong with you? You seem distracted. Where's Yu Kang?"
Thump, thump, thump. Yu Kang heard his father coming back and ran out of his room.
"Dad, you're back! I'm starving!"
"Why haven't you eaten yet?"
"Oh, I forgot to get food from the cafeteria. Yu Kang, wait a minute, I'll make you some noodles."
Yu's mother went to the kitchen, seemingly lost in thought.
What happened to your mother?
"My second sister came over this morning, and we had a fight. I saw her secretly crying."
Mr. Yu was very surprised. He had never heard his second daughter argue with anyone before. She always went about her business quietly and rarely said more than a few words a day. What had happened to make her unable to hold back her argument?
Mr. Yu turned and went to the kitchen, where Mrs. Yu was tending the fire, looking listless.
"What's wrong with Yu Yin? Why did you two argue? What was it about?"
Tears welled up in Yu's mother's eyes; after holding them in for almost a day, she could finally speak.
Yu's mother repeated Yu Yin's words and asked Yu's father, "Did I do something wrong? Did I neglect her too much? That's why she said that she has been afraid of being abandoned since she was a child, and only Yu Jun can give her a sense of security."
Mr. Yu was also feeling bad. He was busy with work every day, and when his children were young, he would go on missions, sometimes for half a year at a time. He hardly cared about things at home; his wife took care of everything, which was very hard on her.
Yu Yin was slow to react and quiet from a young age, so they didn't take it seriously. It was only his wife, with her impatient nature, who couldn't stand Yu Yin's slow pace and often argued with her. He hadn't even noticed outsiders saying Yu Yin was stupid; he had neglected his duty.
"Alright, there's no such thing as a mother and daughter holding a grudge overnight. It's better to say it out loud. Just be more careful in the future. As for Yu Qing, Yu Yin is right. Between siblings, you can't just take without giving back. Over time, the relationship will fade."
“I know Yu Qing was wrong, but she was having severe morning sickness, so I just thought I'd have Yu Yin dry some fruit. It wasn't a big deal, but I didn't expect her to explode.”
Yu's mother felt that she hadn't done anything wrong. With so many children in the family, there were bound to be areas she couldn't take care of. She never expected that the child had so many things on his mind.
"When too much grievance accumulates, a single trigger point can set it off and cause an explosion. And stop asking Yu Yin about Yu Qing's matter; she has no obligation to do these things. In such a large city like Yang, how come they can't find a way to stop the nausea?"
The noodles were ready, and the three of them ate a tasteless meal in silence.
"Dad, this is a new mosquito net that my second sister brought. Could you help me change it later? My old mosquito net is too old and not breathable."
"What mosquito net? When was it delivered?"
Yu's mother asked in surprise, she hadn't noticed.
"It was this morning. My second sister and her family came to deliver mosquito nets. I think it was sent by my second sister's husband's second sister."
Mr. and Mrs. Yu exchanged a glance, their hearts aching. This quiet child cared for them, but what about them...?
At that moment, Yu Yin was holding a strange pair of underwear and asking Lu Shurui to try it on.
"Are you sure this will fit? Why is there an extra piece in the front? Did you cut it wrong?"
