Chapter 43 Rescuing People on the Edge of the Deep Mountains

Time marches on, and before we know it, the rainy season has arrived again!

"Sister-in-law, I thought planting and harvesting rice was already tiring enough, but I didn't expect that tapping rubber trees is just as hard!"

They've been here for almost a year, and Lu Shuqi, Wang Wenye, and the others have gotten quite tanned. They've spent most of their wages on food and drink, so they look thin and dark, but they're not weak; they've all developed some muscle mass.

"It must be really tough; I've never experienced anything like it before."

"Oh dear, you absolutely mustn't experience that; it'll be an unforgettable experience."

Qian Weiguo took a bite of a mango, shook the yellow juice off his hands, and was deeply moved.

"Alright, you've worked hard. I'll make you some chicken soup for lunch."

Yu Yin raised six chicks last year, and they all survived. She kept four hens to lay eggs, and ate one of the two roosters over the New Year. There's still one left, so she ate it. Otherwise, if an inspection comes someday, who knows who will benefit from it?

"Oh, my sister-in-law is so nice!"

"Alright, you two watch the kids, I'll go cook."

"Don't worry, sister-in-law, leave it to us."

Yu Yin ignored them; the two younger ones were familiar with them, so there was no need to worry.

Yu Yin first put the slaughtered chicken in a pot to stew. Since there were many people and not much meat, she could only make chicken soup, adding plenty of side dishes to enhance the flavor.

Yu Yin and Lu Shurui were cooking in the kitchen, while Wang Wenye and the others were looking after the children, pulling weeds, or doing their own chores in the yard.

"Uncle, lift me up high."

An'an held Wang Wenye's hand, wanting to lift him up high.

"Okay, Uncle will carry An'an high."

Wang Wen also really likes An'an. The little girl is mischievous, not shy at all, and loves to hang around them.

A child's innocent laughter can relax a tired body and make you feel that everything is worthwhile.

"Hehe...hehe..."

An'an, lifted high above his head, chuckled happily. His silvery laughter was infectious, and several young men in the yard, seeing An'an drooling with joy, laughed along with him.

Pingping wasn't interested in any of that. He picked up a comic book and asked Jia Mengchen to tell him a story. He's another little bookworm, just like his father.

After a hearty lunch, Lu Shuqi and the others left; they still had tasks to complete in the afternoon.

"You stay home and watch the kids this afternoon, I'll go for a walk in the mountains."

"I thought you weren't going up the mountain this day off, but I didn't expect you to not miss a single one."

Yu Yin likes going up the mountain because there's plenty of food and many surprises there.

"Since we're just idling around anyway, it's always good to stock up on food."

Yu Yin changed into long sleeves and trousers, tucked in her trousers, and walked away with a water bottle, a knife, and a basket on her back.

Lu Shurui was also helpless. As long as he was free, Yu Yin would leave him to look after the children while she went out to have fun. Unfortunately, he didn't recognize many wild vegetables or mushrooms, so going up the mountain was useless and he was likely to get lost.

Yu Yin was lucky; she picked several kinds of fruit that she didn't have at home, and also picked a few kinds of mushrooms. Her basket was almost full.

"Coo coo...coo coo..."

Yu Yin listened carefully and thought it sounded like a pheasant calling. Following the sound, she indeed found a pheasant that was quite large.

Its colorful feathers are very eye-catching and shiny, perfect for making delicious chicken soup.

Yu Yin perked up and tiptoed closer. Just as she got near, the pheasant sensed danger and flapped its wings, flying away. Yu Yin was somewhat disappointed. "Oh well," she thought, "I'll give up."

"Coo coo...coo coo..."

The pheasant, which had run a short distance, stopped again and started clucking at Yu Yin. Yu Yin, ever the little temper flaring, thought this was a provocation.

Yu Yin leaned closer again, reached out and grabbed, but missed. And so, one teased from the front, the other chased after unwillingly from behind, until they unknowingly reached the edge of the deep mountains.

Yu Yin was so focused on chasing the pheasants that she didn't realize she had already run to the edge of the deep mountains.

"Let's see where you run to."

Yu Yin lunged forward and actually caught the pheasant. At the same time, she sensed something was wrong; it was so limp. Her body stiffened, and the hairs on her body stood on end.

Before I knew it, the pheasant had run away.

Yu Yin lowered her head in alarm, trying to see what she had fallen on.

Two long legs clad in green military trousers came into view. Yu Yin took a slight step back and looked up along the legs, where a face painted with greasepaint appeared before her. The PLA soldier's features were obscured, his eyes tightly closed, and she didn't know whether he was dead or alive. Yu Yin was startled again.

Although Yu Yin couldn't distinguish the ranks of military uniforms, she was certain that this outfit was definitely her country's military uniform.

Taking a deep breath, Yu Yin stepped forward and checked the veins in her neck with her hand. They were still pulsating; she was alive. Although Yu Yin was very pragmatic, she still had a lot of goodwill towards soldiers and couldn't just stand by and watch someone die.

Let's check it first to see where the injury is.

Yu Yin checked from head to toe, and found nothing wrong with the head. Moving down, she felt something wet on her hand; looking down, she saw it was covered in blood.

Lifting his clothes revealed a long wound on his abdomen, with the skin turned inside out and blood still flowing.

Yu Yin forced herself to calm down; the first priority was to stop the bleeding. She had no medicine, but the spiritual spring water should help. Never mind, she decided to try anything, pouring the spiritual spring water onto the wound. As the wound was cleaned, the bleeding stopped. She was grateful for the almighty spiritual spring water.

The bleeding has stopped, but another problem has arisen: how to bandage it? Not bandaging it is definitely not an option.

After thinking it over, Yu Yin decided she could only use her own underwear. She got up, walked into the bushes, entered her spatial dimension, took off her underwear, put on her outer garment, left the dimension, and found some herbs.

Yu Yin crushed the hemostatic and anti-inflammatory herbs and applied them to the wound. She then tore her underwear into strips and barely managed to wrap the wound. This PLA soldier was too big; it was difficult to cover.
