Chapter 58 Reconciliation

Lying in her beloved sky-blue mosquito net, with her head resting on her lover's arm, and hearing the sound of her child's peaceful breathing from the small bed next to her, Yu Yin felt that the places in her heart that had once been dry were now moist.

After a frank discussion with Brother Yu, Yu Yin couldn't say she'd completely forgiven him—there really wasn't any enmity between them. It was just that something she'd once longed for was now readily available, and she realized she truly didn't care anymore. It was a genuine letting go, not just saying it and not truly letting go.

It's less about reconciling with Brother Yu and more about reconciling with myself.

Having been in this world for over a year, busy raising her child and struggling to make a living, Yu Yin feels herself being slowly healed. She used to suffer from insomnia, afraid of seeing her parents' names on phone calls, feeling annoyed and anxious, and always having an urge to destroy everything.

Putting everything else aside, I've broken countless pieces of my own tableware. Knowing I sometimes lose control, and that other things aren't cost-effective, I stock up on plates and bowls since they're cheaper. See, I haven't completely lost control yet, and I'm still calculating what to break to save money.

It's strange. I hate those explosive sounds because I heard them too many times when I was a child, but I need to create those sounds to relieve my emotions. It's ironic and frustrating.

Now, Yu Yin is busy every day. Her child consumes most of her energy, and work and housework take up another portion. She doesn't have time to think about anything else. When she lies in bed at night, she feels like she can fall asleep in a second, and her sleep quality is excellent. She might not even know if someone carried her away.

Yu Yin's love for going up the mountain stems not only from the joy of picking fruits and vegetables, but also from the realization that humans appear so insignificant in the face of the mountains. Any worries or frustrations can be dispelled by howling at the mountains, feeling as if a great deal of pent-up energy is released from the body.

The original owner's longing and resentment were slowly fading away, especially after talking with Brother Yu.

Yu Yin also felt as if she was living two lives, hers and her own.

The night was deep, and Yu Yin's eyelids were too heavy to keep open. She didn't want to think about anything anymore and went to sleep.

The next day, Yu Yin took the opportunity to go up the mountain and caught two chickens from her spatial storage. Having accepted money from her mother, she couldn't refuse; it wouldn't fit her public image, haha.

"Mom, I've caught a chicken for you."

Yu Yin entered her parents' yard and handed the chicken to her mother, who was washing clothes.

With her beloved son, grandson, and granddaughter back, Yu's mother, who always prioritizes work, took an unprecedentedly long vacation.

"This chicken is quite plump, it must weigh four or five pounds. How much is it?"

"Four yuan each, the rest will be delivered in a few days."

"Okay, it's not too expensive. This chicken is worth the price. I'll make chicken soup for dinner when we get back tonight."

Yu Yin didn't want to become a cook, so she declined her mother's invitation and even gave her some freshly picked mushrooms as a bonus.

What a conscientious seller! They even give away free gifts!

"Okay, if you guys don't come back, we'll eat by ourselves."

"You guys eat, I have something to do, I'll be going now. Sister Wang helped cover for me, that's how I got the chance to come out."

Yu Yin quickly left with her basket, while her mother put down the two chickens and continued washing clothes. She never tired of washing her grandson's and granddaughter's clothes!

Yu Yin felt she had truly let go. Seeing her mother happily washing clothes for her grandchildren, she felt no emotional turmoil whatsoever. Since being transferred to Yunnan Province, her mother had been busy with work, leaving most of the housework to teenage Yu Yin. Washing clothes, cooking, cleaning, childcare…

Busy with all this every day, and still having to squeeze in time for studying, the young man also learned to do housework, take care of the children, and a whole host of other tasks. Sometimes, Yu's mother would say, "Why should a boy learn these things? Double standards, utter double standards!" The silent Yu Yin would only sulk inside whenever she heard this, but she wouldn't quit. The young man, however, continued to do as he pleased, ignoring his mother's words. "Who says boys can't do housework? If I don't do it, I'll leave it all to my little sister. She doesn't have three heads and six arms; she'll be exhausted."

Yu Yin, who once longed for maternal love, viewed her mother through a thick filter, failing to see her true nature. In truth, many things were already clear, but she simply refused to acknowledge them. Forget it, none of it matters anymore, it's unnecessary.

Meanwhile, the aroma of chicken soup was already wafting out from Yu's mother's side.

Without Yu Yin's help, Yu's mother had a lot more work to do. Although her cooking skills hadn't improved much, she could still manage to make a soup. With good ingredients, no special skills were needed; a slow simmer was all it took for anyone to make a good soup.

"It smells so good!"

As soon as Brother Yu and his family of four entered the courtyard, they smelled the rich aroma of chicken soup.

"Grandma, have you cooked chicken?"

"Yes, I'll make you chicken soup and some fresh mushrooms too."

Mother Yu smiled broadly and happily replied to her eldest grandson's words.

"Mom, where did you buy the chicken? Aren't free-range chickens hard to raise?"

“Yu Yin bought it; she has connections. I paid for it; I didn’t get it for nothing.”

Seeing her eldest son frown, Yu's mother quickly made a statement.

Brother Yu didn't say anything. He was the beneficiary, and saying more would seem hypocritical and pretentious.

"Yu Yin is here, why didn't you stay for dinner?"

"She rushed back to work, probably afraid I'd make her cook, she won't even come when I call her for meals. Fine, if she doesn't come, that's fine, saves us the meat."

Brother Yu was helpless against his mother's words. She wasn't that wicked, but she made herself sound like a stepmother.

Yu Yin no longer cared about what was happening to her mother and the others; she was in a great mood.

I haven't checked my blog properly for a while. Every time I come in, I just rush in to give the chicks water and food, and clean up the chicken droppings. I don't have time for anything else.

Today, when I went in to catch chickens, the fruit trees in the space were laden with fruit, bending the branches. Inside the chicken coop, the chickens, big and small, were chirping and chattering, and the eggs were scattered on the ground, looking from a distance like a layer of sparse pebbles.

The vegetables, too, were too overgrown with weeds due to lack of time for harvesting. Millet, rice, wheat… the heavy ears of wheat, rice, and millet bowed their heads. Over there in the basin, small fish occasionally leaped out of the water to breathe in the fresh air.

Time was tight and there was no time to tend to it, so Yu Yin had no choice but to go out first and harvest everything that needed to be harvested during her rest time.

A sense of joy over the harvest welled up in my heart, and a smile unconsciously appeared on my face.

"What's making you so happy? Why are you secretly laughing?"

"No way! I'm just relieved that I slipped out without being discovered."

"Oh dear, I thought it was nothing serious. Only an honest person like you would take it seriously; everyone else is used to it. Go to the other offices and see—people drinking tea and chatting, sewing clothes, mending clothes…aren't they all doing things unrelated to their work while on duty? Everyone does it, and since there are so many people doing it, we can only go with the flow."

Sister Wang summarized her thoughts and felt that she had made a very good point.

Yu Yin also knew that at this time, everyone had a secure job, and there was no such thing as being fired. This was the state of affairs in all industries; there was no pioneering spirit, and everyone was just maintaining the status quo.

That's true. High profiles aren't allowed now, everyone's afraid of being accused of some crime, which would be a huge loss.

They talked for a while, then went about their own business. Many things are understood without being said; saying too much about them would just make things meaningless.
