Chapter 90 Returning Home

After the New Year's Eve dinner and the first day of the Lunar New Year, time is like a wild horse that has broken free of its reins, impossible to hold back.

"Tickets bought, for the third year of junior high school, two sleeper berths and one middle berth."

"That's not bad, otherwise this journey would have been deadly."

This time, I got a sleeper berth through my second brother-in-law's connections.

The New Year has just passed, so there won't be as many people on the train, and they can relax a bit.

"Shuqi, come over in a bit. You two can go together and mail these packages. Let's travel light and not take so much luggage. We're going to visit Grandpa and Grandma tomorrow, and we're leaving the day after tomorrow."

Yu Yin packed up everything she had collected during this time and mailed it through the post office. Most of it consisted of clothes, bed sheets, and slightly damaged items; not much food. If she weren't afraid of being discovered, Yu Yin would have kept it all in her online space. Sigh, she could only dream about it.

Fortunately, the post office is open on the first day of the Lunar New Year; there's no such thing as a holiday during the Lunar New Year these days.

That evening, my second sister prepared a delicious meal at home to bid them farewell.

"Pingping, An'an, eat more."

My second sister takes care of my nephew and niece. This time when they came back, the two children were most familiar with my second aunt's family and got along well with them.

"Second sister, don't worry about them, they can manage on their own. Thank you so much, second sister and brother-in-law, for taking care of us this time.

“What are you saying? Aren’t we really close relatives? It’s too formal to say that. Over the years, Yu Yin has given me a lot of things, especially tea. I like to drink it myself, and I’ve even used it to build relationships. My brother-in-law is very grateful.”

"That's right, we're brothers, no need for thanks. Shu Rui and I grew up together, so we have a closer relationship."

During those years at their grandparents' house, the two children were like pitiful creatures without a home, longing for their parents to come and pick them up every day. No matter how good the grandparents were, the children still longed for their parents.

"Alright, then I won't say any more. We'll have to keep in touch often in the future."

Yu Yin and Lu Shurui understood that their second sister was the only person they could frequently visit in the family.

Brother Lu was busy with work and never bothered with these family matters. Sister-in-law Lu's family was supportive, but she treated her husband's family so-so, as long as they were polite enough. This time when he came back, Brother Lu didn't even have a private chat with Lu Shurui to reconnect.

As for Sister Lu, she's a smart aleck but a coward. She got a beating from Yu Yin last time and hasn't dared to go near Yu Yin since. She's a total bully when she's with her own people.

As for Lu Shukang and his wife, they refused to come to their home. One of them was mentally unstable and a mama's boy, while the other was vicious and wicked. Neither of them were good people. For their own safety, they had to stay far away.

As for Uncle Lu and such, there's no need to even consider him. His own parents-in-law were like that, let alone his uncle and aunt; they had no connection to begin with.

As for Uncle Lu's family, they had a good relationship with Lu Shuqi and could interact like normal relatives.

Yu Yin felt that her trip had somehow caused Lu Shurui to lose his home and some of his brothers and sisters.

"Honey, it's like I've made you lose your family."

"How could that be? If you truly have a loving family, you won't lose them. I just have a shallow family bond."

There was already an abscess there; Yu Yin simply popped it. That's good, though; only by popping it can the abscess fully heal; otherwise, it will always be an ailment.

What truly warmed Yu Yin's heart were Grandpa Lu and Grandma Lu. The two elderly people had a profound philosophy of life and lived with great wisdom. In an era where large families often live together, Grandpa Lu and Grandma Lu had the foresight to prepare houses for each of their sons, allowing them to live separately and avoid constant conflicts.

The two elderly people, each with their own retirement pensions, chose to live independently rather than with either of their sons. They have supported each other throughout their lives, rarely arguing, and always discussing things together.

Grandpa Lu was one of the few men who didn't mind doing housework; he would even cook and help Grandma Lu with daily chores. Naturally, Lu Shurui, who grew up around them, followed their example.

Lu Shurui used to be able to cook simple meals, but now he can try most dishes, and they taste pretty good. He helps take care of the children, does the laundry, and is quite good at housework. Yu Yin is the beneficiary; how can we not thank Grandpa and Grandma Lu!

On the morning of the second day of the Lunar New Year, Yu Yin and her husband took Ping An and An An to Grandpa Lu's house. When they arrived, Shu Qi and Shu Yun were already there.

"Brother, sister-in-law, stay safe and sound. Have you missed your uncle?"

"Auntie, we've come to play with you. Great-Grandpa, Great-Grandma, An'an missed you."

“Oh, my dear grandchildren, your great-grandmother misses you all too.”

Grandma Lu took out a fruit platter full of delicious food and stuffed it into Ping An and An An's hands, telling them to eat.

"You're heading back tomorrow?"

Grandpa Lu looked at Lu Shurui with a touch of reluctance. This quiet grandson never argued or made a fuss, always silently following behind his grandmother, helping with whatever she could. He never ran around wildly, and his clothes were always clean, so his grandmother never had an endless pile of dirty laundry to wash.

It's heartbreaking that such a pitiful child is not loved by his mother.

"Yes, Grandpa, you and Grandma need to take good care of yourselves. If you need anything, just ask my dad and third uncle. Don't be afraid to do it yourself. I'll try to come back to see you next year or the year after. You and Grandma need to stay home and wait for me to come back. I..."

Lu Shurui's eyes welled up with tears, and she couldn't continue speaking. She had received so much warmth and affection from her grandparents, but it was also frustrating that she couldn't be by their side in their old age.

"It's alright, you two are fine. Your grandma and I are in good health. We'll try our best to live to see you grow up safely and start your own families."

Grandpa Lu and his wife have a very good attitude and are always able to view everything in life with optimism, whether it is good or bad.
