Chapter 61 Failed Attempt

As Gu Lingchuan frantically fled, he saw the giant alien shift its target and was overjoyed. "Great!" he thought, "Now I have a way to send the information out."

Once they were close enough to communicate with Zheng Guohao, Gu Lingchuan told him the giant alien's weaknesses through his earpiece.

"Really? The heart is the weak point of a monster that even nuclear weapons can't kill?" Zheng Guohao was skeptical at first, but then he locked onto the giant alien with a satellite view.

That giant alien really underestimated them and wasn't on high alert. You have to understand that with the help of satellite imagery, missiles could easily lock onto the giant alien's heart.

But as soon as it locked onto the target, the alien looked up at the sky.

The moment their eyes met, Zheng Guohao looked away. Who knows if this guy could be infected even from a satellite perspective?

Zheng Guohao pressed the launch button directly. A burst of flame rose up, hovered in the air for a second, adjusted its direction, and spewed out flames to accelerate, shooting towards the giant alien with flickering firelight.

With a deafening roar, the explosion engulfed the giant alien in flames.

Zheng Guohao launched several more missiles.

"Don't finish them all off, just in case," Gu Lingchuan had wanted to warn him earlier, but he was surrounded and intercepted by seven or eight aliens of similar strength and didn't have time to enter the signal reception area.

"It's too late, we've already won everything," Zheng Guohao thought, wanting to press his advantage.

With that, Gu Lingchuan had no choice but to analyze the weaknesses of these aliens and quickly eliminate them, even at the cost of having his chest pierced.

Since most of the aliens bypassed the military survivor base and pursued the main force that broke out, there weren't many aliens left in the rear.

Ultimately, it was a matter of insufficient firepower and manpower. From Gu Lingchuan's perspective, this rearguard action was undoubtedly a failure, but from Hua Zhiyuan's perspective, they had done a very good job. Being able to stop that giant alien was already a chance for them.

When Hua Zhiyuan and his group broke through, the remaining number had been reduced from over a thousand to three hundred.

Most of those who fell behind were ordinary people; many were simply surrounded, but it was impossible for them to go back to rescue others.

Without that condition, it's up to them to decide.

When the smoke cleared, the ground was empty except for the large crater left by the explosion.

"He's underground," a voice rang out behind Gu Lingchuan and Zheng Guohao.

Gu Lingchuan, who was still recovering his supernatural abilities, didn't notice anyone and turned his head to look.

A familiar figure appeared before everyone.

"Lin Yu, why are you back?"

"How could I possibly abandon my friends again? Don't worry, Bai Ling is protected by my strongest White Tiger. She's already gone far away."

Gu Lingchuan smiled and nodded. "What's the situation with that alien?"

"It's similar to before, but the red light from his heart seems to have dimmed considerably. At this moment, soil and rocks are gathering on his body, as if to create a suit of armor that covers his entire body."

"Give me some explosives and I'll have one of those burrowing animals carry them in. He's also busy gathering soil."

"We only have ordinary hand grenades left, or nuclear warheads," Zheng Guohao said with self-reproach.

"We don't need nuclear warheads. Give everything else that can be detonated to Lin Yu," Gu Lingchuan said.

Piles of explosives were sent underground, and as time passed, a gigantic creature hundreds of meters tall rose from the ground.

Even Hua Zhiyuan and his men, who had rushed more than ten kilometers away, could see it clearly.

As soon as he stood up, an explosion occurred from the giant creature.

But it only blasted off some mud chunks, which couldn't damage the alien inside at all.

A single step can cover hundreds or thousands of meters, enough to flatten a mountain. The distance one manages to break through is insufficient, and one can be quickly overtaken.

With a large number of aliens, and firepower completely depleted, I really don't know how we'll survive.

As dawn broke, no hope was in sight.

“Let’s go. It’s no use. Unless we detonate the nuclear warhead now, there’s no way we can kill him,” Gu Lingchuan said.

He was just trying it out, and even if his backup plan didn't work, there was no need to continue. To be honest, this alien's ability to infect without being watched wasn't that scary.

But they can do nothing about it except avoid it.

Seeing that Zheng Guohao did not react, Gu Lingchuan was taken aback. "You don't really want to detonate a nuclear bomb, do you?"

Zheng Guohao shook his head. "No, that's not true. If we detonated it, everyone who could have survived would die. It's unnecessary and not worth it. I was just thinking that we still have more than twenty brothers here. If we leave, they probably won't be able to leave."

"Da da da~"

"Da da da, ka ka ka"

The heavy machine gun ran out of ammunition at that point.

Gu Lingchuan dealt with the few aliens that rushed in, and then cleared a path for nearly thirty people to gather together.

"Follow me and charge! If you can keep up, you'll survive!"

"We are currently in the center of the alien encirclement. The direction they left in has the most aliens, the left and right sides have about the same number, and the rear has the fewest aliens," Lin Yu quickly told Gu Lingchuan.

"How is Bai Ling doing?" Gu Lingchuan was a little worried about Bai Ling, since most of the aliens had gone that way.

Lin Yu's eyes were vacant for a few seconds. "She has caught up with the first group of researchers who left. She's safe."

"Break through diagonally to the right"—there's that giant alien behind him on the left and behind, so Gu Lingchuan simply abandoned the options of going back and to the left.

Looking at the chaotic survivor base, Gu Lingchuan sighed, "Looks like we'll have to find a new location."

Gu Lingchuan led the charge, clearing the way, which slowed down the others. This put most of the pressure on Gu Lingchuan, making the rest of the group much safer.

After rushing a short distance, the densely packed aliens made everyone's scalp tingle. Their various shapes were extremely incongruous, making people's senses extremely uncomfortable.

Gu Lingchuan quickly sustained numerous injuries, even though he instantly knew the Xenomorph's abilities. Someone else unaware of these details would not have been able to sustain such an injury for so long.

Before long, the giant alien's gaze fell on Gu Lingchuan. The bombardment hadn't been entirely ineffective; it had depleted a significant portion of its energy. It seemed that the one capable of launching that attack wasn't among the fleeing ants, but had been left behind here.

Then the target of the attack can be shifted. The subordinates can continue to pursue the fleeing people, while it can level this place first.

"This is bad! The giant aliens have switched their attack target to us. At our current speed, none of us will escape."

"Captain, you guys go ahead, don't worry about us," said the warrior who wasn't an evolved human.

Zheng Guohao wanted to say something to boost morale, but he simply couldn't bring himself to say it in front of such a terrifying monster.

Meanwhile, Hua Zhiyuan and the others were all prepared to die, but the alien's sudden turn gave them renewed hope.
