Chapter 170 I Miss You So Much (Part 1)

Chapter 170 I Miss You So Much (Part 1)

On the 29th day of the twelfth lunar month, the imperial court was sealed and the officials of Dazhao began their annual leave.

Pei Xingju finished his miscellaneous affairs and came out of the Ministry of Justice's office. When he reached the door, he saw Weng Bo sweeping the snow. He waited for a while with his hands behind his back.

Uncle Weng had weak legs and feet, so he was usually responsible for sweeping the Ministry of Justice and frequently fetching hot water for the officials. He carried Pei Xingju on his back, unaware of her presence, muttering to himself, "This year's snow is so heavy! Auspicious snow foresees a good harvest! It's a good year!"

After a moment, he noticed a pair of boots behind him and quickly turned to get out of the way: "Ouch, I'm blocking Master Pei's way. Master Pei, Happy New Year!"

Pei Xingju nodded: "Happy New Year, Uncle Weng!"

After saying that, he walked out the door.

Uncle Weng looked at his back for a moment, then smiled and sighed, "Lord Pei is about to have good news!"

The people who had hurried out to catch up heard this and stopped to ask curiously, "What good thing is coming?"

When Weng Bo saw that it was Chen Yi, he immediately bowed again.

He said, "Didn't Lord Shen notice that Lord Pei was in a good mood?"

Chen Yi thought carefully about it. It was the end of the year recently, and Pei Xingju, though not in a good or bad mood, had decisively executed several death row prisoners. According to him, this was to save food for the New Year.

He nodded in confusion and continued to chase after him.

At the Pei Mansion, Pei Xingju had just arrived at the door when he saw Shen Yi's carriage following.

He stood on the steps and waited for a while: "Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, aren't you going back to the Princess's Mansion?"

After Chen Yi married Princess Wu Jing, the Emperor granted him a princess's mansion, and Chen Yi moved in. The mansion wasn't far away, just two blocks north of Pei Xingju's house. It was just that their two locations, one in the south and one in the north, didn't fit in their travels at all, but Chen Yi always liked to hang out with him.

Hearing Pei Xingju's question, Shen Yi curled his lips and said, "What should I do when I go back? It's so boring."

He followed her into the gate and continued, "You also know what's going on between Princess Wu Jing and me. The house was given to her by the Emperor. I'm just staying here temporarily. I'll go back at night."

The two of them turned around the screen wall, and Pei Xingju walked straight towards the study.

"By the way," Chen Yi asked, "Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. How are you planning to spend it?"

"Let's continue as usual."

"Ah, or I can come and keep you company." Chen Yi said, "With Xue Gang away, you're so lonely and pitiful."

Pei Xingju gave him an ambiguous look and said, "No need."

Shen Yi was baffled by his look, but...was he feeling sorry for himself?

Tsk! What does he have—

The two of them walked to the study, and just as they stepped through the threshold, someone suddenly swooped over from the side and hung on Pei Xingju.

Chen Yi stopped and saw that the person hanging on Pei Xingju was Zhuang Wan, whom he had not seen for a long time. His eyes widened immediately.

“You…..what are you doing…”

Before he could finish, the study door was slammed shut by Pei Xingju, and a voice came from inside: "I'm busy today, Master Shen, please go back."

Chen Yi was turned away and accidentally stepped on Xue Mozi and slipped again, so he hurriedly held onto the corridor column.

He pressed his face against the pillar in disbelief, and asked Guard Lu as if he had seen a ghost: "What's going on with them?"

Guard Lu felt a little sympathetic towards him: "As you can see."

Chen Yi was stunned for a long time, and finally understood that Pei Xingju's eyes really showed pity for him.

Well, I feel complicated.

.

Inside the house, Pei Xingju was caught off guard by Zhuang Wan who pounced on him. He was more surprised than shocked.

Fearing she would fall, he held her steady and asked happily, "Didn't you say it would take a few days to arrive?"

When Zhuang Wan set out from Hezhou, news arrived around the beginning of summer that he wouldn't arrive until the beginning of the year. Pei Xingju had already prepared to spend New Year's Eve alone, but he didn't expect to see someone on the first day of his holiday.

After a month of separation, my longing for you has grown like the weeds at the bottom of a lake. Normally, I could suppress it, but now that I see you, the weeds sway like crazy, unable to stop.

He spun her around in his arms, placed her on the desk, and then rested his hand against Zhuang Wan's forehead. "Zhuang Wan?"

"Um?"

"Have you been waiting long?"

"About an hour, right?" Zhuang Wan put her arm around his neck, closed her eyes and smiled. "I didn't wait for you. I cleaned up and had lunch."

Pei Xingju curled his lips and gently pressed his forehead against hers: "But I've been waiting for a long time."

As he spoke, his breath was rich and his Adam's apple kept sliding. He raised his chin slightly, wanting to get closer to her lips, but then he restrained himself and retreated.

Zhuang Wan didn't notice. She was completely focused on the joy of seeing Pei Xingju. She talked about what happened along the way and how anxious she was about not being able to make it to New Year's Eve when the roads were blocked by heavy snow in the county town a hundred miles away from the capital.

She kept on talking about how much she missed Pei Xingju these days.

"I missed you so much," she said.

She opened her eyes, stepped back slightly, and looked at Pei Xingju carefully. He seemed to have lost some weight, and there were dark circles under his eyes.

"Didn't you sleep well?" she asked.

"Yeah." Pei Xingju looked at her silently, with unconcealable tenderness in his eyes.

"Why didn't you sleep well?"

"The end of the year is approaching, and the court is busy."

What he didn't say was that Duke Xin was making a desperate and crazy counterattack, and dealing with the rear party also took a lot of his energy.

Zhuang Wan raised her hand and touched his eyes. Her warm fingertips stroked from the corner of his eye to the top of his brow, and then from the top of his brow down along the high bridge of his nose.

Pei Xingju has a high nose with a slightly protruding bone in the middle, but it does not affect his appearance. Instead, it gives him a sharp and handsome look.

After a moment, her fingertips moved to Pei Xingju's cheek again, and finally to his ear, rubbing his slightly cold earlobe.

"Don't the government offices have a charcoal brazier? Why is it so cold?"

"It was born, but the charcoal brazier went out later."

"Why didn't it kill people and regenerate them?"

"Forgot," he said.

"Are you stupid?" Zhuang Wan pinched his ear. "It's useless to use the government's charcoal brazier. It's not your money anyway."

Pei Xingju chuckled softly, with the corners of his lips slightly raised.

Zhuang Wan stared at him.

Perhaps because Pei Xingju rarely smiled, his expression when he did smile seemed a little out of place with his otherwise stern features. His lips were slightly pursed, appearing thinner, a wrinkle formed from his brow to his nose, and his jawline seemed slightly rounded from the movement of his smile. However, his features were delicate, not detracting from his handsomeness, but rather adding a touch of endearment.

"What are you looking at?" Pei Xingju asked.

"Look at my boyfriend, he's so handsome," Zhuang Wan said with an exaggerated expression, "Why is my man so handsome?"

The word "my man" made Pei Xingju feel helpless and blushed. A faint smile flashed in his eyes: "What on earth did you grow up eating? Ordinary women in the boudoir are not as bold as you."

Zhuang Wan giggled and held his face: "Do you like it?"

Pei Xingju stared at her silently without saying a word.

"Tell me, do you like it or not?" Zhuang Wan looked spoiled, as if she would tickle him immediately if he dared to say he didn't like it.

"Do you know what you look like now?" Pei Xingju said.

"Like what?"

Pei Xingju opened his mouth and said three words silently, but Zhuang Wan understood.

"Great! How dare you call me a tigress!" Zhuang Wan pretended to be fierce: "Just wait and see how I deal with you!"

After that, she rushed over fiercely, but her lips landed lightly on his lips and kissed him tenderly.

As if the long-awaited rain had fallen, Pei Xingju's Adam's apple suddenly moved and he closed his eyes in satisfaction.
