Chapter 173: The Beauty of Falling in Love (Part 2)
Zhuang Wan chuckled and held out her hand to him: "Where's mine?"
"What?"
"I heard everyone got a red seal, what about mine?"
She acted like a child begging for food, confident and self-righteous. Finally, she turned her head and whispered to Guard Lu beside her, "You got it too?"
Guard Lu nodded.
"How much did you get?"
Guard Lu raised two fingers and said, "Twenty taels of silver."
Zhuang Wan immediately puffed out his chest and said to Pei Xingju, "I don't care. I have more than him."
Pei Xingju's eyes were filled with smiles, and he reached out and pulled her into the room.
He grasped her wrist, but found her fingers cold. He lowered his head and looked carefully, only to find that her clothes were thin under her cloak.
"Why don't you wear more clothes?"
"I'm so happy, I can't wait."
"Just to get banned?"
"Of course, this is what I'm most looking forward to." Zhuang Wan blinked, "This is my first year in this world... and here."
Pei Xingju brought her to the table, took out a red envelope from the drawer and handed it to her: "How could you be missing out? I have prepared it for you a long time ago."
Zhuang Wan received the red envelope, blatantly pinched the thickness, and smiled cunningly.
She stayed to have breakfast with Pei Xingju, but just as breakfast was over, the mansion welcomed the first wave of guests who came to pay New Year's greetings.
It was Shen Yi and Princess Wu Jing.
.
Princess Wu Jing had known for a long time that Zhuang Wan had returned to the capital. She had been holding back for many days and finally had a good reason to come visit on New Year's Day.
While Chen Yi was discussing matters with Pei Xingju in the study, Princess Wu Jing stayed in Zhuang Wan's osmanthus courtyard to eat snacks. The snacks were brought by Zhuang Wan from Luyang, including shredded squid, sweet and spicy fish skin, grilled fish sticks, and so on.
"I love the taste of this, it's spicy and chewy, it's really great." Princess Wu Jing said.
Zhuang Wan observed her expression and saw that while her face was cheerful and cheerful, something was changing. The innocence between her brows was gone, replaced by a hint of melancholy.
"If you like it, eat more. I have some left. I'll ask someone to prepare some for you to take back," she said.
After a moment of silence, he asked, "How have you been these days, Princess?"
Princess Wu Jing paused for a moment, then quickly recovered. "That's great! The capital is huge, with lots of things to do and eat. The Emperor also gave me a house. Oh, I tell you, it's huge and beautiful. There are many flowers planted in the garden. When spring comes, I'll host a banquet and invite you to enjoy the flowers and drink tea, okay?"
Zhuang Wan nodded.
"By the way, I also bought a pleasure boat by the Nancheng Lake. It's so relaxing there in the spring, enjoying the breeze and the scenery. I've also been to the Nanpo Orchard. Last autumn, it was full of fruit, golden and large, so lovely. Later, I learned to make persimmon cakes, which are delicious. If I have time, I'll make them again for you to try. Lately, I've also been learning to cook Beijing dishes. I can make three-fresh dumplings, dried bean curd in chicken soup, and..."
Looking up, Princess Wu Jing saw Zhuang Wan looking at her quietly, and she slowly stopped.
It was as if all the strength in his body had been used up, and even the smile he had tried so hard to maintain on his face gradually disappeared.
She lowered her head.
"Zhuang Wan, actually I don't want to hide it from you. My married life is terrible," she said.
"But I don't want others to see me. I'm a person who cares a lot about my reputation. I've been feeling so uncomfortable and I don't know who to tell. Now that you're here, I'm not afraid of you seeing me." Wu Jing said, "I've learned a lot and done a lot, not because I like it, but because I'm too bored. I have to do something to pass the time."
Zhuang Wan moved her lips, wanting to say something persuasive, but she didn't know where to start.
She was well aware of Wu Jing and Shen Yi's affairs. Relationships were the most unforced, so how could she, as a bystander, offer advice? Should she advise Wu Jing not to take things too seriously? But Princess Wu Jing had already lost her heart long before she even got married.
Or should he persuade her to wait quietly for a miracle of love? But Shen Yi loves Jiang Baohe and may not want to turn back for Wu Jing from the bottom of his heart.
This is like a difficult puzzle, and only the person who set the question knows the answer.
"But you don't have to worry about me." Princess Wu Jing laughed again. "I've already made an agreement with him. We'll divorce three years after our marriage, and I'll return to my homeland then. I'll forget him as soon as possible. We have handsome men in Lu who are much better at riding and archery than he is. Sometimes I think carefully about what it is that I like about him."
Wu Jing pursed her lips and frowned, as if thinking it over again, then said, "He doesn't seem to be that great."
Zhuang Wan was amused by her.
"But I'm only telling you these things. I won't let him know, nor will I let anyone else know."
Zhuang Wan nodded. "I'm relieved you think so. There are plenty of fish in the sea, so why bother hanging yourself on a tree?"
When Princess Wu Jing heard this, her eyes widened. "Zhuang Wan, what you said is absolutely brilliant! That's exactly what I meant!"
The two smiled at each other, and the atmosphere suddenly became relaxed again.
.
Over here, in the study, Chen Yi was about to leave after talking to Pei Xingju, but was inexplicably stopped by Pei Xingju.
"Anything else?" He turned around.
Pei Xingju slowly took out two red envelopes from the drawer and said, "These are for you."
Shen Yi was shocked!
"What's this?"
"Everyone in the mansion gets some New Year gifts." Pei Xingju pretended to be indifferent.
"No way! No way!" Chen Yi jumped up and looked around him as if he was seeing something strange. "The sun is rising from the west. Our usually cold and taciturn Master Pei will be given a red envelope!"
"Publish! Seal! Red!" He emphasized these words: "Am I reading this correctly? You, Pei Xingju, can actually be so humane."
Pei Xingju picked up his pen and wrote, ignoring him.
Chen Yi whistled, put Feng Hong in his pocket, and walked out the door excitedly. He put his arm around Guard Lu's shoulders and asked curiously, "Is your Master Pei having a seizure?"
Guard Lu, who had seen more, was already indifferent: "That's nothing."
He pointed to the brand new, bright red Spring Festival couplets inside and outside the house and said, "These were written by our adults, and he put them up himself."
“!!!”
Upon hearing this news, Shen Yi was dumbfounded.
He walked slowly into the study, half-leaned his elbow on Pei Xingju's desk, and moved closer to continue observing.
After a while, Pei Xingju raised his eyes: "Are you bored?"
"Not boring," Shen Yi shook his head, his expression ambiguous and teasing: "I'm admiring the look of someone falling in love."
“…”
Pei Xingju let him admire it, then after a while he wrote a letter and handed it to him: "Send it to Xue Gang as soon as possible and ask him to act according to the plan."
Finally, he asked, "Do you have anything else to say?"
"Ah! It's gone!" Shen Yi stood up with interest.
Then I heard Pei Xingju drive the guest away: "In that case, please go back."
"No, you won't invite me to dinner on New Year's Day?"
"I'm busy today, I'll do it another day."
"What are you busy with?"
"I'm different from you. I naturally have my own things to do."
""
Damn! He made me proud again!
